Kuemper could be dealt?

Kings could deal Kuemper to gain cap space

Hey everyone, in today’s blog post we head over to the LA Kings and look at an article that mentions that if the Kings need cap space could they look to deal a former Vezina winner?

Now according to Coffman, who I think is with the Athletic or something like that, was recently talking about the Los Angeles Kings and he says that the Kings are in a cap crunch, they need to sign RFA Brandt Clarke, they really want to re-sign Scott Laughton who fit in really well after the trade deadline, and they do not have a whole bunch of cap space to do that. So he mentions that maybe a way that they free up cap space this off season is they look to trade Darcy Kuemper.

Now Kuemper, has one year left on his contract at $5.25 million AAV, which is not a long term contract, but once again that $5+ million cap hit could give them $5 million in cap space, which would be a really big boost there for the Los Angeles Kings. So Kuemper lost the starting role in the regular season to Anton Forsberg and Forsberg really took off running with that starting role and Kuemper never saw any action in the postseason and in the stretch run for the Los Angeles Kings, so with all that in mind, Kuemper’s time in Los Angeles may be coming to an end heading into the offseason.

Now, he's still just a couple of years removed from being a Vezina finalist and Kumeper is still a really solid goaltender, so I think with a fresh start with only one year left on his deal, I think there could be some teams who have some interest, do the Oilers look at Kuemper? Do the Canes, Blue Jackets, Flyers? There's probably a couple of other teams out there too, who could use some goaltending help. So I'm not exactly sure who would try and target Kuemper, but once again his term is not overly bad, his cap hit is a tiny bit high, but once again if he can find his Vezina form from a couple of years ago, he may turn into a solid gamble for a team in net. So all in all it's going to be very interesting to keep our eye on the situation, but I would keep your eye on the Kings as potentially looking to try and move off of Darcy Kemper.

I personally could see it, because If they move Kuemper, wind up bringing a cheaper backup for Anton Forsberg or someone who can work in tandem with Forsberg and allow them to save a little bit of money and use that money to either sign Brandt Clarke, or add something else, that would be a smart move there for Los Angeles, especially with Kuemper not being able to get the starting role towards the end of the season this past year and sort of losing his spot on the team. So very interesting to note there, but keep an eye on the Los Angeles Kings as they need to free up some cap space and Moving Kuemper might be the right move for the Kings so we will have to wait and see, but I would love to hear your thoughts below, do you think Kuemper gets moved or not, and don’t forget to check out my YouTube Channel.
