Sabres could look to deal Levi in offseason with log jam in net.
Hey everyone, in today’s blog post we are looking at what David Pagnotta recently said as he mentioned that with the log jam in net now for the Sabres they may be open to dealing Levi in the offseason.
So I think it was on an article or a video call he was doing, David Pagnotta mentioned that the Buffalo Sabres were shopping Devon Levi towards the trade deadline and he says that he expects talks to continue on into the summer, So the Buffalo Sabres goalie situation is very interesting as a couple of years ago they signed then top prospect Levi from the NCAA and he was looking like a really solid goaltender at the time after joking the NHL club I think two or three years ago when they just missed out to Florida for the last playoff spot in the East. So he looked really really good, but since then he's basically been stuck at the AHL level and although he has looked pretty good at the AHL level, now he's starting to become a goaltender who might not be able to crack the Sabres goaltending lineup anytime soon.

Now the reason is because right now you got Lyon, now he's only signed for next year, but he has been phenomenal and I think he now has the longest winning streak by a goaltender in Buffalo Sabres history. And then there is UPL, they signed him to a long-term deal recently and he's actually been putting up some pretty good numbers this year. So with those two there and now Colton Ellis who they acquired off of waivers at the beginning of the season as their third stringer who they have a lot of faith in and who they think after Lyon’s contract ends might eventually be UPL’s backup, there is not anywhere for Levi to play except for the AHL and he's waivers eligible next year.
So if they do want to run with another UPL and Ellis/Lyon Tandem next year and they don't really see a future with Devon Levi then there's a possibility for a Devon Levi trade in the off season, which I think is very interesting. I do think there could be a couple of teams who would have some interest as I think Edmonton would have some interest, the Canes could potentially have some interest, I think the Flyers would definitely have some interest, I also personally wonder about the Blue Jackets as a team that might need some goaltending help, I wonder about Ottawa, Montreal and there’s a couple of teams out there who could use at the very least a tandem goaltender, if not a starter and I think Levi with the numbers he's shown at the AHL level is pretty much ready for the NHL
So this is going to be an interesting situation to watch out for because of the depth that the Sabres have in net, I think there's a very good likelihood we could see a Levi trade or just a goalie trade just in general for the Buffalo Sabres because I don't think they're going to go into next season with four goaltenders on their roster who can play at the NHL level and potentially losing one or two of them on waivers. So I definitely do think there's a very likely chance we could see Levi get dealt and I think there would be a couple teams who would be lining up out the door to acquire him, once again goaltenders don't have the greatest of values so I can see the Sabres maybe get a second round pick and a decent prospect for him, but I don't think they're going to get a whole bunch. So, keep your eye on the Buffalo Sabres in the offseason as once their season comes to an end they could look to try and trade Devon Levi at some point and I would love to hear your thoughts down in the comments if you think that Levi is likely to get dealt in the offseason and if it would be a smart move for the Sabres and don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel as well.
