Weegar to Detroit?

 Wings need defensive help, may be targeting Weegar.

Hey everyone, today we are looking at Detroit as a recent report from Garrioch links the Wings who are a defensive needy team to one of the Flames blueliners.

Now Garrioch was talking about the Detroit Red Wings, and he says that the Red Wings have expressed some interest in acquiring Flames defenseman McKenzie Weegar, now, that doesn’t seem too surprising. Now we have talked about Weegar with the Senators quite a bit over the last little while, but the Red Wings are another very interesting team who may have some serious interest in Weegar. He's a top 4 defender, which is something this Red Wings team does lack, they have Edvinsson, they have Seider, and Chiarot’s not been terrible in the top four this year either, but those are really your only three top end defensemen, now you got Johansson who's starting to get in there, you got ASP who's starting to get acclimated to the NHL, but you don't have a clearcut top four veteran defenseman with experience.

So that would be where Weegar would come in, they Wings have the cap space to bring him in, they also have some pretty good assets that I think they could try and tempt Calgary with to make some sort of a deal which in my eyes makes a ton of sense, now I think Weegar in Detroit would be a great fit for the Wings because I do think it could really round out that defensive core. Say you put Weagar maybe with Edvinsson and you have a top four of Weegar, Edvinsson, Chiarot and Seider, that's not a terrible top four for a Red Wings team that is in a playoff spot right now. 

So I'm not going to say it's a guarantee this happens because Weegar does have some trade protection and he is signed for a long time and there's no guarantees at this point that there's been any indication the Flames are completely open to moving him, but it does sound like Weegar’s name is at least out there and the Flames are fielding calls for him and if the Wings could pony up a big enough asking price, I wouldn't be shocked if Weegar might land in Detroit before this year's trade deadline. So I have to wait and see on that, but the Red Wings do need some defensive help and it seems like they have had some interest in the last little bit in Mackenzie Weegar, So we should wait and see how that unfolds and I would love to hear your thoughts on Weegar potentially going to the Wings below in the comments and don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel.
