Sen’s to move Zetterlund?

Could Zetterlund be moved as a cap dump for the Sen’s?

Hey everyone, in today’s blog post we are looking at the Ottawa Senators as we know the Sen’s want a forward upgrade but are pressed against the Cap to make a move some we look a recent article looking at a potential cap dump for the Sen’s.

So according to Pagnota, he was speculating recently about a couple of guys who the Senators could potentially move because we know the Senators are looking to go big game hunting, we know they are looking for maybe another top six forward or potentially a top four defenseman. They are going for it this year as they were a top team in the Atlantic division before this recent stretch of bad games for the Senators. So they are looking to be one of the more dominant forces in the Eastern Conference this year and it seems like with all the picks and prospects they have, they are willing to go all in, but they don't have a whole bunch of cap space as I think they only have around $3 million.

So, that does matter if they want to go after someone who has a big cap hit, as they're going to have to do some sort of money in, money out thing or have the other team retain salary, which I think would be very unlikely for a player that the Sen’s are probably going to try and go get. So at this point in time, they'll probably have to move someone out with some significant cap hit. Now a guy I've recently looked at in the past is David Perron because he's in the final year of his deal and making $4 million, sure he's a good veteran presence, but I think if you go after a solid top six forward or top four defenseman upgrade, then you trade a guy like David Perron to free up the cap space.

However another guy that David Pagnotta says recently could wind up being dealt is Fabian Zetterland, now Zetterlund is in the first year of a three-year deal and the contract negotiations last year didn't do overly well, and Zetterlund has had a very slow start this season, I think he's only at this point in time had like 6 or 7 goals and has sort of picked up the pace a little bit over the past few weeks, but still hasn't been an overly great fit in the Senators organization up to this point. So, he's making just over $4 million and if they're going to bring in a legit solid top six forward who's going to be there for a little bit of time, I think they would consider a deal that would involve Zetterlund because they still think he’s a really good player, however It just doesn't seem like he fits overly well with the Senators.

They brought him in at the trade deadline last year, but it just doesn't seem like it's a great fit with the Sen’s, so don’t be surprised if Staois does a similar thing that he did last year where he dealt Norris in a package to get Cozens, which has worked out phenomenally for the Senators. Maybe if he deals Zetterland, who's not really fitting in overly well for someone who can maybe fit a little bit better and maybe is a little more impactful, that might make some sense for all Sen’s.

So, we'll have to wait and see on that, of course no guarantees by any means Zetterlund gets moved and there’s a couple of other options the Senators could go after, but Zetterlund is definitely a very interesting name to keep our eye on because he is making over $4 million and would be a perfect cap move for the Senators to try and go after some sort of a big piece. So, we'll have to wait and see on that, but keep an eye on the Senators and potentially Fabian Zetterlund as potentially being moved in a package to try and get some sort of an impact player. So, we should wait and see on that but watch out for Ottawa making some sort of a move, and I would love to hear your thoughts below and don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel.
