Could Wild move Middleton?

Could Minnesota move Middleton to add forward help?

In today’s blog post we go over to Minnesota as according to a recent report on Daily Faceoff there is some speculation that the Wild could move one of their defenders now that they have Hughes.

So Carter Yaremchuk over on Daily Faceoff was recently talking about the Minnesota Wild, now he’s not one of those connected insiders and I think he was just speculating, So I don't think there's any sort of concrete evidence to say this is something that the Minnesota Wild are currently looking at, but he said because of the acquisition of Quinn Hughes, the Minnesota Wild could trade from a position of strength to try and add up front. We know the Wild don't have the greatest of depth on their team, especially up the middle after dealing Rossi. Now when they're healthy, they're pretty good, but they could probably use another top nine forward to strengthen it entering the postseason.

So Yaremchuk does say he wonders if the Minnesota Wild could try and move Jacob Middleton with the acquisition of Quinn Hughes. Now that they have Hughes, they can add him to a top 4 that already has Faber, Spurgeon and Brodin. They have Middleton as a third pair defender right now, but they also have guys like Bogosian, Jiricek, and Damon Hunt who could also be serviceable third pair defenseman.

So if they can move Jacob Middleton, who I think has two or three years left on his deal after this year at a $4.3 million AAV, it would give them some cap flexibility and I think they would potentially be teams out there who would have some major interest in Jacob Middleton who Minnie could wind up moving for a forward in return. So I could see that be a possibility and I don't think he's far off the point. I'm not sure if they'd be completely open to moving Middleton and they might be more open to moving a guy like Jiricek which might be a little more enticing, but I think they could move a defenseman now that they have Quinn Hughes and try and use that to add a forward. I think that would be a very smart move there from the Minnesota Wild.

So, we'll have to keep an eye on that. I don't think the Wild are done by any means after acquiring Quinn Hughes and I could see them potentially move off a defender and Middleton I think would make some sense with the way the top four structure right now in Minnesota. So, we'll have to keep our eye on that but keep an eye on the Wild to potentially move Middleton to add some forward help, and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel.
