Could Devils buyout Palat?
In today’s blog post we are looking at the New Jersey Devils as I saw an article recently talking about how the Devils could maybe in either this off-season or next year's offseason, maybe more likely next year but they could look to try and buy out Ondrej Palat.
Now Palat a number of years back signed a five-year contract with the Devils and had a AAV of $6 million to be with the New Jersey Devils and their team and I think they're 3 years into that contract, so I think he's got this upcoming season plus the year after so he's got two years left on his contract at a $6 million cap hit, but Palat has not produced overly well the past couple of years, especially this year as I think he only had 10-15 goals and he only had 35-40 points and he wasn't the productive player that the Devils signed him to be the past few years and especially this season.

So this article mentioned that the Devils could try and consider a Palat buyout, now the article said it's more likely to happen next year because he'll only have one year left on his deal and it's going to be a lot easier to buy out that contract with only one year left than 2 years and it will be easier because it wouldn't be as long of term for a buyout, but I could also see it happen this year as we know the Devils are definitely going to be going through some changes this year after being eliminated in round one by Carolina and with Palat not looking overly good, I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils also considered a trade for him as they could maybe retain $1 to $1.5 million dollars and bump his AAV down to like $3.5-4 million, maybe that would make some sense for the New Jersey Devils to consider and would be better then a buyout.
So we're going to have to wait and see on that, but keep your eye on New Jersey as like we said I'm sure there's a very likely chance they're going to have some major changes in this years offseason and maybe Palat could be one of them either being bought out or traded so keep your eye on Ondrej Palat as he may be moved this offseason.
