UPL could be next Sabre moved.
In today’s blog post we are looking at the Buffalo Sabers as Jeff Merick was recently talking with Greg Wysinski and they were talking about Buffalo and Merick was wondering if maybe a guy who could get moved in the goaltending system in Buffalo would be Ukko Pekka Luukkonen.

Now Luukkonen I think is in the first or second year of a long-term deal, I believe it was like a four or five year deal at $4.75 million, so he's still signed for a couple more seasons so i'm not saying it's a guarantee that Luukkonen will get moved and I think it's probably more than likely that he will stay with buffalo, but Merick does say that they do have Devon Levi in the system and if they do really want Levi to be the full-time starter, then there's a possibility we could see Luukkonen get moved and he does wonder also if this could be the next Ullmark where he was decent in Buffalo but had inconsistencies and he really wanted to remain there, but he left as UFA and signed in Boston and has since become a Vezina winning goaltender.
So I do wonder if he could potentially be something like that and could it be another one of those scenarios where a player leaves Buffalo and has success elsewhere as it's a very likely possibility, so i'm not going to say it's a guarantee that Luukkonen does get moved given the fact that he's a such a good goalender for buffalo last year and even though he's had inconsistencies he's been a really solid goaltender this year, so I would be shocked a little bit if Buffalo did wind up moving him but with the Sabres still having Devon Levi in the system and potentially wanting him to be the full-time starter at some point, I wouldn't be overly shocked with the Sabres trying to make some big moves this offseason if they were to potentially move a guy like Luukkonen.
So teams that come to mind who could use Luukkonen would be someone like Edmonton or Detroit as both those teams I think really need starting level goalenders and I don't think they have them at any level at this point in time, so I do wonder if Luukkonen did come available would Edmonton or Detroit have some interest, so we're going have to wait and see on that, but keep on eye on Luukkonen as he's a potential option here for a trade in the Buffalo Sabres organization in the offseason.
