 Penguins fire sale to begin, vets to be moved?

In today’s blog post we look at the Pittsburgh Penguins as according to a recent tweet put out by Marco Di’Amico he indicates that a fire sale is imminent in Pittsburgh and that big name veterans and not just pending UFA’s will get moved in the next couple of weeks and month leading up to the March 7th trade deadline.

So it sounds like after a really bad stretch here for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they have not been overly good, I think they've won like 2 or 3  times in the last 11 games and they've not been looking overly good recently and because of that even though they're still in the playoff race they've got themselves I think five or six points out of a playoff spot now, so because of that fact he says that the Penguins are open to making a lot of moves and he says besides Captain Sydney CrosbyC longtime Center Evgeni Malkin, forward Brian Rust, Philip Tomasino who has been a fantastic addition for them and defenseman Owen Pickering, everyone else's name is available in the Penguins organization, so look at guys like Rickard Rakell who could be a veteran who's dealt, I didn't see Kris Letang on that list so could he be a possibility of being dealt, I know they're not overly fond of Jerry so could he be dealt and one interesting thing that he did also mention too is that the Penguins might be open to trading Erik Karlsson with at least some retention available, so the Penguins seem to be open for business there's a very likely chance we see many moves by the Penguins before this year's trade deadline as the Penguins goes through a fire sale and try and retool this before Crosby's contract is up in I think 2 years time after this year

So we could see a lot of moves by Pittsburgh and we've already heard a lot about Rakell potentially being moved by Pittsburgh at some point in the near future and how there could be a lot of teams interested in a top six goals scoring forward, we talked about Marcus Peterson who is a pending UFA and a solid top for D-Man and very likely to get moved, a couple of other Pending UFA’s who could be moved are guys like Anthony Beauvillier, D.O’Connor and Matt Grzelyck, and guys who still have term who could be moved could possibly be Noel Acciari, on the defensive end like we said Letang still has I think two or three years left at $6 million so would they entertain moving him, if they were to retain maybe $2 to $3 million on Eric Karlsson because he has already been retained once so they can only retain him one more time, but if they were retain $2-3 million and move his contract at like $7-8 million cap hit I think there would be a handful of teams out there who would love to add an Erik Karlsson to their top four so we're going to have to wait and see what happens there.

So Marco Di’Amco definitely thinks there's a fire sale that's about to begin in Pittsburgh and that basically all the penguins are on the trade block except for a handful of forwards and Owen Pickering so we'll have to wait and see what happens there for Pittsburgh, but expect a ton of moves to come out in the not distant future for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they look to try and retool this team and maybe a fire sale is going to come in the not to distant future.
