San Jose looking for some blueline help in both Free Agency and on the trade market.
In this blog post we are looking at the possibility of a team in the Pacific adding some help on the blueline before the season starts. Now according to Sheng Peng of the San Jose Hockey Now, he says that the Sharks are still looking to try and add defensemen and he says that there's some free agents that they're looking at and also there are some trade options they're looking at, but basically they really do want to try and add some more help on the defensive end.
Now if you look at the Free Agent Market he links guys such as Justin Schultz, John Klingberg,Kevin Shattenkirk and Tyson Barrie as players who the Sharks may target, now the Sharks still have a ton of cap space so they could overpay one of these guys to go to San Jose, I mean Klingberg is a really solid defensemen coming off a bad season where he had an injury so he wouldn't probably cost too much, Barrie could be overpaid on like a one-year deal there and then be dealt at the deadline and same sort of thing with Shattenkirk who isn't overly bad at this point, while Schultz has declined a little bit but I think he could still fit in well but I think with them looking for some more veteran help with them having more of a younger blueline those four could be interesting options if they wanted to go the free agent Market route.
Meanwhile if they went the trade market according to Sheng Peng guys who could be of interest could be Cody Ceci, we know he's a possible trade candidate with the Oilers potentially looking to try and free up some cap space so he may be a very likely option to go to San Jose, another is Trevor Van Reimsdyk in Washington who could be a guy who maybe finds himself on the outside looking in with all the defensive additions the Capitals have made this offseason and they may also target a guy like Whitecloud in Vegas who probably won't get dealt but is another guy who seems to be coming up a little bit in trade rumors over the past little while, so those guys could all be interesting adds for the Sharks and I think Ceci will be the most likely one, they would also be able to probably get some sort of an asset from Edmonton for taking on the Ceci contract so that could be an interesting one while Van Reimsdyk and Whitecloud will definitely take some pretty good returns to be acquired by San Jose, but those two could also be really good second or third pair defensemen there for the Sharks.
So interesting stuff there but it does sound like according to Sheng Peng the Sharks are looking for some more defensive help and whether it be someone on the free agent market like a Klingberg or a Barrie or someone on the trade market like a Van Reimsdyk or a Ceci, it does seem like the Sharks are definitely going to be continuing to look this off season for some more defensive help so we'll have to wait and see on that and if they do wind up getting some more help before the season starts, but watch the Sharks as they may still have a move or two in them, and I would love to hear your thoughts on all that was discussed today down in the comments section below and would love to hear your thoughts.
