The End to End Hockey top 30 trade bait list
We are back with the End to End Hockey’s trade bait list, now I know we are not too far from the draft but this is the first board I have done since the deadline a couple month ago so I am starting with a 30 player mock draft right now and I should have a full 50 player Trade bait list before the draft, so without further ado here is my trade bait list to start the Offseason.
M.Necas -1
Contract Status: RFA
Stats: 24-29-53 in 77GP
Position: RW
Age: 25
2 teams linked: Canucks and Flames
Analysis: Now first on my new trade bait board is forward Martin Necas from Carolina. Now there has been a lot of talk since the offseason began that Necas would not be back with the Hurricanes, he is a Pending RFA and on top of maybe being a little too pricey for the Hurricanes to resign, he also seems to want a bigger role then he had last year in Carolina so it seems that he will be moved at some point this offseason and perhaps sooner then expected, now he has been a fantastic forward over the past few years and has really been great in a top 6 role so the Hurricanes want a pretty nice package in return, but teams who need scoring help and have the cap space to extend him on a deal that has a AAV of around $7-8 Million I think would like him and he may have not even reached his full potential yet as well, so it seems like Necas will be moved at some point and he is number 1 on my board.
J.Markstrom -2
Contract Status: 2 years at $6 Million
Stats: 48GP .905 SV% 2.78 GAA
Position: G
Age: 34
2 teams linked: Devils and Senators
Analysis: next up we have Jaccob Markstrom on my Trade bait list, now Markstrom is still a solid starting goaltender but we know the situation in Calgary, not only is Dustin Wolf ready to be a full time NHL player and has down everything he can at the AHL level which would mean the Flames would have to move one of Vladar or Markstrom, the other thing is that after it sounded like he was asked to waive his NMC to go to New Jersey and then the deal fell through and never happened, he got real angry with the Flames and it seems that now he may actually want a fresh start, now a trade won’t be easy with him still having 2 years at a $6 Million dollar cap hit, but their are currently a lot of teams looking for a starting goalie and Markstrom could definitely be that in the right situation not being too far removed from being a Vezina finalist, so even though the ask seems to be pretty high it sounds like Markstrom wants a fresh start and I would expect a deal to happen at some point soon.
N.Ehlers -3
Contract Status: 1 year at $6 Million
Stats: 25-36-61 in 82GP
Position: WIN
Age: 28
2 teams linked: Isles and Senators
Analysis: here at 3 we have Jets forward Nikolai Ehlers, now Ehlers has been a long time Jets player and has worked pretty well in their top 6 but after his performance in the playoffs and what he said at the end of the year, it has a lot of people talking that his time in Winnipeg is probably coming to a end and he is entering the final year of his deal and it sounds like he won’t sign a extension right now so the Jets will probably move him at some point, now while he didn’t work out in the playoffs a great deal he is still a solid top 6 winger who can put up 20-25 goals and 50-60 points and with him entering the final year of his deal the Jets may be open to retaining salary, so I expect Winnipeg to want a pretty high asking price but with all we have heard and the fact that there would be a ton of teams interested in a top 6 forward, I think the Jets will move Ehlers at some point.
M.Marner -4
Contract Status: 1 year at $10.9 Million
Stats: 26-59-85 in 69GP
Position: RW
Age: 27
2 teams linked: Golden Knights and Preds
Analysis: next up at 4 we have the guy who may be the biggest name that we will here all offseason long and that is Mitch Marner, now after the no show Marner had in the playoffs a lot of fans were hoping to see Marner be moved at some point this offseason, and although I think that is still possible, we are getting mixed messages from reports as some say Marner is open to a trade and could be dealt at some point this offseason, while others are saying he wants to finish the year in Toronto and figure out the situation next offseason, so this is going to be a interesting situation to keep our eyes on as Marner has all the say right now with his NMC, if he wants to go he will work with Toronto to be dealt, if he doesn’t he will handicap the Leafs from doing anything, but if they can I think the Leafs have to try and move Marner, as clearing his cap space and potentially getting a solid top 4 D could help this team improve and almost everyone in the league would like a playmaking top 6 forward such as Marner on their team, so depending on what Marner wants I think there is a very good chance we could see Marner get dealt and that’s why I have him at number 4.
J.Saros -5
Contract Status: 1 year at $5 Million
Stats: 64GP .906 SV% 2.86 GAA
Position: G
Age: 29
2 teams linked: Leafs and Kraken
Analysis: at number 5 we have Juuse Saros, now Saros was in the rumour mill during last year leading up to the deadline before Nashville went on that great run and the rumours started to die down, but they are popping up again and I can definitely see why the Preds would consider moving him, he is a solid starting goalie but he is entering the final year of his deal and is going to want a big raise on his contract and they already have a future starter in Askarov in the minors right now, so it would make sense instead of signing him to a long term deal to move him and give Askarov the net in the next year or two, plus the return they could get on Saros would be huge and would definitely help the Preds forward group and with a ton of teams wanting a starter, I think there is a very likely chance Saros gets moved.
T.Zegras -6
Contract Status: 2 years at $5.75 Million
Stats: 6-9-15 in 31GP
Position: C, LW
Age: 23
2 teams linked: Habs and Flyers
Analysis: at 6 we have Zegras who is a name who has popped up over the past little while, now Zegras may be one of the more unlikely guys to move on the trade bait list but his name has definitely been popping up ever since the bad season he just had as he had to go through a long and drawn out negotiations with the Ducks for a new contract and after not performing well some think he may like out of Anaheim and some also think that with the offensive talent in Anaheim they could move him for upgrades at different positions of the team so it may be a win-win situation for those two, now it may be a difficult trade to pull off as Zegras is young and the Ducks would want to be paid handsomely, but I think a ton of teams could have interest in a playmaker like Zegras and I could definitely see him be moved.
J.Chychrun -7
Contract Status: 1 year at $4.6 Million
Stats: 14-27-41 82GP
Position: LD/RD
Age: 26
2 teams linked: Red Wings and Kings
Analysis: now we have a familiar name to the trade rumours board here at end to end hockey and that is Sen’s defensemen Chychrun, now there has once again been trade speculation surrounding Chychrun and this time it may not be due to the player as he had a spectacular season in Ottawa and did great, but he is entering the final year of his deal and on top of not knowing if he wants to remain in Ottawa long term, the Sen’s also have 3 top 4 defenders who play on the left side in Sanderson, Chabot and Chychrun and it seems like Ottawa would probably like to move one of Chychrun or Chabot to get a RD who can round out the top 4 and with Chabot on a longer term deal it makes more sense to move Chychrun and even though they are going to want a pretty nice return, I would expect Chychrun to be a guy who is very likely to get moved.
L.Ullmark -8
Contract Status: 1 year at $5 Million
Stats: 40GP .915 SV% 2.58 GAA
Position: G
Age: 30
2 teams linked: Senators and Kings
Analysis: next up we have yet another starting goalie who is on the rumour board and that is goalie Linus Ullmark, now the reasoning for moving Ullmark has nothing to do with play or not liking the player or the player wanting out as Ullmark likes Boston and vice versa and while he didn’t have the Vezina level year he had the year prior, he was still a great goalie, but the Bruins don’t have too much cap space and need to sign Swayman and improve in other areas and as much as they would probably love to keep a Swayman-Ullmark tandem, at this point it is just not feasible so it is almost a guarantee that Ullmark will be dealt in the offseason and teams who need a starter will be all over trying to acquire him and even though the ask is high, I expect teams to try and pull off a deal and I do think he gets dealt.
Devils 10th and Sabres 11th Overall Picks -9
Contract Status: N/A
Stats: N/A
Position: N/A
Age: N/A
2 teams linked: Flames and Jets
Analysis: next up we have the Devils and Sabres 1st round picks that both seem to be on the block, now both teams seem to be very close to being playoff teams again and it seems like both would be willing to move their 1st round pick on order to get a player or players who can help their team right now, so for the Devils they have the 10th overall pick and speculation is that they could move that pick for a upgrade in Net, while the Sabres have pick 11 and may move it for a upgrade to their forward group, so no guarantees of course that these picks will be moved but with New Jersey and Buffalo both looking to get better quick, I think we could see these two picks get dealt.
P.Laine -10
Contract Status: 2 years at $8.7 Million
Stats: 6-3-9 in 18GP
Position: WIN
Age: 26
2 teams linked: Canucks and UtahHC
Analysis: to round out the top 10 we have a former 2nd overall pick in Patrik Laine who seems to need a fresh start, now Laine was dealt to Columbus a couple years ago for Dubois and ever since arriving in Columbus it hasn’t worked out as he has always been injured or in the players assistance program and trying to move him to Center this year never really worked for the Jackets and now it sounds like they are trying to work together to find a trade, and it will be difficult with his recent play as well as his contract, but he is a former 40 goal scorer and in the right situation I think he could thrive, so it will be difficult but I expect Laine to be on a different team then the Jackets this year.
J.Guentzel -11
Contract Status: UFA
Stats: 30-47-77 in 67GP
Position: WIN
Age: 29
2 teams linked: Blackhawks and Kraken
Analysis: next up we have a potential sign and trade here before the free agent market opens and this is involving Jake Guentzel, now after being acquired at the deadline by Carolina there were a lot of positive talks that Guentzel was going to be able to come to terms on a extension with the Hurricanes and that we was going to remain their for long then just the year, but trade talks have broken down and it sounds like he will head to market and the Canes have made it known that they would be open to moving his signing rights for a mid round pick, so there are plenty of teams out there who I think would have some major interest in adding a goal scorer like Guentzel and would love to talk to him before the free agent window opens, so this is a move that I definitely foresee happening in the not too distant future.
J.Gibson -12
Contract Status: 3 years at $4.6 Million
Stats: 46GP .888 SV% 3.54 GAA
Position: G
Age: 30
2 teams linked: Red Wings and Kings
Analysis: next up there is yet another starting level goalie and it is one we have talked about on and off again for the past few seasons and that is John Gibson, now Gibson has been mentioned in trade talks for quite sometime now in Anaheim and it sounds like they may actually move him at some point this offseason, now he is coming off a down year as he didn’t have a great season and it look like he has now lost his starting role to the Ducks future starter in Dostal, so instead of paying $6+ Million to Gibson to be the 1B/backup in Anaheim it may make more sense to just move on from him and get a cheaper backup or tandem goalie, so I could definitely see the Ducks move Gibson this offseason and with his contract it may be difficult to move him but I think this may be the time the Ducks actually move on from him as there are a lot of teams interested in goalies right now and Gibson might wind up being a hot commodity.
J.Farabee -13
Contract Status: 4 years at $5 Million
Stats: 22-28-50 in 82GP
Position: WIN
Age: 24
2 teams linked: Kraken and Canes
Analysis: next up we have out first Flyer on the list and it is actually one of their younger players who might benefit from a fresh start and that is Joel Farabee, now Farabee is a solid top 6 forward who is still signed for a few more seasons and is on the younger side of things so I wouldn’t be overly shocked if he remains in Philly, but there are definitely some people who think that Farabee wasn’t overly thrilled with his role on the Flyers this year and may want a fresh start elsewhere, now he is a former 25 goal scorer of memory serves me correct and also is on the younger side and coat controlled so teams who are looking for scoring help and don’t want to pay a egregiously high price tag may call up Philly and ask about Farabee, and like I said I don’t think the price tag would be overly high and with his track record and age I think there is a solid possibility that Farabee will be moved at some point this offseason.
O.Wahlstrom -14
Contract Status: RFA
Stats: 2-4-6 in 32GP
Position: RW
Age: 24
2 teams linked: Sharks and Flames
Analysis: next up we have a guy who is in desperate need of a fresh start as it has now worked out over the past few season with the Isles and that is Oliver Wahlstrom, now the former 1RD pick was brought in to be a solid young goal scorer for this Islanders team and instead he has barely been able to get back in the lineup and has been a healthy scratch at times so I think that Wahlstrom desperately needs a change of scenery as it has been too long and hasn’t worked for him, so I think whether the Islanders move him in a big package to get a upgrade or they move him by himself to get a mid level pick or decent prospect, I do believe Wahlstrom will at some point be moved and will be on a new team to start next season.
P.Buchnevich -15
Contract Status: 1 year at $5.8 Million
Stats: 27-36-63 in 80GP
Position: FOR
Age: 29
2 teams linked: Sabres and Golden Knights
Analysis: next up we have Buchnevich who did top my trade bait list prior to the deadline and I think will be mentioned in trade discussions again this year, now Buchnevich ever since arriving in St.Louis has been a top end forward for that team as he has fit in well with guys like Saad, Kyrou and Thomas and has nearly been a point per game his entire tenure with the Blues,so it seems like he has been a pretty good player for St.Louis, but he is entering the final year of his deal and probably wants $8+ Million on a extension and I am not sure the Blues would be willing to do that, so instead they may move him and cash in while his value is sky high and get a really good return for him, so we will have to wait and see and i don’t think it is guaranteed he gets moved, I wouldn’t be overly shocked if he was at some point.
F.Hronek -16
Contract Status: RFA
Stats: 5-43-48 in 81GP
Position: RD
Age: 26
2 teams linked: Canes and Blackhawks
Analysis: next up we have a solid defender who has a fantastic start to the year but finished out quite badly and it may lead to him being dealt, now Hronek was acquired at the 23 trade deadline by Vancouver and early on this year it looked like that would be a great deal for Vancouver as Hronek was doing great with Quinn Hughes, but the 2nd half of the year and especially in the playoffs his production dropped and that on top of him wanting $8 Million on a new deal and Vancouver not wanting to go above Hughes cap hit has lead a lot of people to believe that the Canucks will move him, now there is a chance he lowers his ask and stays, but I do think the Canucks may move him to a team willing to pay him what he wants and I think while they won’t get the return they gave up for him in the deal, I think they could still get a solid return and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was indeed dealt at some point this year.
J.Harris -17
Contract Status: 1 year at $1.4 Million
Stats: 3-11-14 in 56GP
Position: LD/RD
Age: 23
2 teams linked: Wild and Caps
Analysis: next up we have one of the Habs defensemen that was mentioned a lot in the rumour mill recently and is someone I personally think gets traded in the not too distant future and that is Jordan Harris, now the Habs have a abundance of solid blueliners and one of those guys is Jordan Harris, now Harris has been a solid defender for the Habs for the past year and a half and has looked really good, but with better guys like Reinbacher, Mailloux and Hutson coming up there won’t be enough space for Harris on that blueline so moving him makes a lot of sense and I feel the Habs could get a solid return for him, so it will be interesting but he is a solid young defender who I think will get moved and any team who wants a solid young defender I think would be interested in Harris so I do think he gets moved.
Utah’s Draft Picks: -18
Contract Status: N/A
Stats: N/A
Position: N/A
Age: N/A
2 teams linked: Canes and Jackets
Analysis: next up we have Utah and their draft capital, now the Utah franchise has a ton of draft picks for this upcoming draft including I think 13 in total and 7 or 8 in the first 3 rounds, now I think it is safe to say the Utah Franchise won’t use every one of those picks and they will in my opinion move a few of them and I am not sure if they would just use some picks to trade up, use some picks to get picks for next year or maybe they will use some picks to add a piece or two to their current lineup who can help them immediately, so I am not sure what they will target but I expect the Utah Franchise to move some picks before the draft happens.
A.Kaliyev -19
Contract Status: RFA
Stats: 7-8-15 in 51GP
Position: WIN
Age: 22
2 teams linked: Habs and Sharks
Analysis: next up we have the Kings and forward Arthur Kailyev, now with all the solid young players entering the Kings lineup over the past few years Kailyev has gotten a smaller and smaller role with the Kings and it got to a point where even the Kings have said a fresh start would probably help both teams, now Kailyev is on the young side and I think could be a solid 3rd line scorer for a team who needs help scoring and I feel that the Kings may be able to get a solid return for him, so I think not only is Kailyev and and the Kings need a separation, but I think they will get one and I do believe Kailyev will be dealt at some point this offseason.
S.Theodore -20
Contract Status: 1 year at $5.2 Million
Stats: 5-37-42 in 47GP
Position: LD/RD
Age: 28
2 teams linked: Leafs and Canes
Analysis: next up we have quite a surprising name at least in my eyes and that is Shea Theodore, now Theodore has been a solid top 4 defensemen for the Knights ever since their first year in the NHL and helped them win the Cup last year, but he is about to enter the final year of his deal and a lot of people not only think that Hanifin was brought in as the Shea Theodore replacement, but the Knights are running low on cap space and could definitely use some cap flexibility and moving Theodore’s $5.2 Million dollar cap hit could go a long way to maybe helping them keep Marchessault and they could get a solid return for him, so while I don’t think they want to, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Kinghts wind up moving Theodore at some point this offseason.
M.Ferraro -21
Contract Status: 2 years at $3.25 Million
Stats: 3-18-21 in 78GP
Position: LD
Age: 25
2 teams linked: Leafs and Hawks
Analysis: next up is a Sharks defensemen who they seem to be open to moving but will cost the acquiring team a ton to get and that is Mario Ferraro, now Ferraro is at this point in time probably the Sharks best D-Men and has been a pretty good defensive defender in the teams top 4 and has thrived in his role, but with the Sharks in the midst of what looks like a long rebuild I do t see Ferraro remaining with the Sharks long term and although he has been good for them, I feel that a ton of teams would love to have a young defender like that and I think the Sharks could get a solid haul to help out their rebuild, so in my eyes I feel that Ferraro is very likely to get moved at some point.
A.Mangiapane -22
Contract Status: 1 year at $5.8 Million
Stats: 14-26-40 in 75GP
Position: WIN
Age: 28
2 teams linked: Utah and Isles
Analysis: next we have another Flame and it is one of the guys who is about to enter the final year of his deal and that is Andrew Mangiapane, now just like last year I think the Flames would like to know which of the players entering the final year of their deals they can keep and which they should move on from and I think Mangiapane is probably the least likely of their 3 big UFA forwards to stay, he is a former 30 goal scorer but had a down year last season and if he can be put in the right situation I think some teams would love to have him and I believe the Flames can get a solid return on a player like Mangiapane, so in my eyes I think Mangiapane will get moved at some point this offseason.
S.Laughton -23
Contract Status: 2 years at $3 Million
Stats: 13-26-39 82GP
Position: C, LW
Age: 30
2 teams linked: Sabres and Leafs
Analysis: next up we have another Flyer player and this is one who has been in trade speculation since around the deadline and that is Laughton, now we know the Flyers are in the midst of a rebuild and could use some more draft picks by moving veteran and Laughton may be one of them, now Laughton is a solid middle six forward and had a lot of experience so adding him to a younger team may be a smart move for teams who are looking for solid secondary scoring and could use a vet and his cap hit is only $3 Million so it would make tons of sense for some teams and with the return the Flyers could get, I think Laughton will be moved this offseason.
E.Merzlikins -24
Contract Status: 3 years at $5.4 Million
Stats: 41GP .897 SV% 3.45 GAA
Position: G
Age: 30
2 teams linked: Oilers and Red Wings
Analysis: next up we have yet another goalie as goalies seem to be littered all over this board and that is Jackets starter Elvis Merzlikins, now Merzlikins a couple of season ago was a solid starting goalie and looked like he would be a great starter for the Jackets which was why they signed him to the deal he has now, but that never really worked and now he not only has requested a trade out of Columbus but hasn’t played overly well the past few season and at points was even the 3rd stringer this year, now I think a lot of teams know what he is capable of being as a starter in the NHL and I think would be open to acquiring him, but he does have a expensive $5.4 Million dollar cap hit for 3 more years and it would be a difficult contract to move, but I feel given his age and the amount of teams looking for starting level help this year, I think Merzlikins will get dealt at some point this year.
T.Liljegren -25
Contract Status: RFA
Stats: 3-20-23 in 55GP
Position: RD
Age: 25
2 teams linked: Utah and Flames
Analysis: next up we have a solid Leafs blueliner who is due a raise and probably won’t get it in Toronto and that is Timothy Liljegren, now Liljegren who is a former 1RD pick of the Leafs was supposed to take a role in the teams top 4 and be a solid defender for the Leafs and perhaps even a partner at one point for Morgan Reilly, but that has never happened as after a few good seasons Liljegren definitely didn’t take any strides this year to solidify a role on this Leafs team as he was banged up multiple times and wasn’t able to be a top 4 D-Men when he was healthy and with him being a RFA the Leafs have made him available and are open to dealing him, now he is still pretty young, has 2nd pair potential and wouldn’t cost a arm and a leg so I think interest on this player would be sky high and I do feel that Liljegren won’t be back with the Leafs and he will be on a new team come the beginning of the new season.
F.Gustavsson -26
Contract Status: 2 years at $3.75 Million
Stats: 45GP .899 SV% 3.06 GAA
Position: G
Age: 26
2 teams linked: Senators and Devils
Analysis: next up is yet another goalie and it is Wild starter Filip Gustavsson, no when it comes to Gustavsson he has been a surprise name in the rumour mill as 2 years ago after coming over from Ottawa he put together one of his best seasons ever and was able to get a pretty good raise last offseason, but this year was up and down and at times he looked terrible and definitely not worth his cap hit, now the Wild extended Fleury and they have Wallstedt in the minors so there has been a ton of talk that the Wild may run with those two and move Gustavsson not only because of his bad year but also because they are a team who is in desperate need of cap flexibility and moving his cap hit would help them dearly, so I do believe we could definitely see a Gustavsson trade at some point this offseason.
R.Smith -27
Contract Status: 1 year at $5 Million
Stats: 13-27-40 in 76GP
Position: WIN
Age: 33
2 teams linked: Isles and Preds
Analysis: next up we have Reilly Smith in Pittsburgh, now Smith who was a long time member of the Kinghts was dealt to Pittsburgh last offseason to help the Penguins round out their middle six and I don’t think Smith had a bad year by any means as he had a pretty good season and worked quite well as a complimentary player to the Pen’s big boys, but the Penguins are trying to get younger and add some more youth to the team and Smith is entering the final year of his deal and probably wouldn’t resign so with where Pittsburgh and Smith are right now it may make sense to deal him, now I think they could get a decent return for a guy like Smith and I think lots of teams would have interest in a middle six scorer like Smith so with all that in mind I feel we will see Smith moved this offseason.
C.Murphy -28
Contract Status: 2 years at $4.4 Million
Stats: 2-6-8 in 46GP
Position: RD
Age: 31
2 teams linked: Canucks and Jets
Analysis: next up is Connor Murphy in Chicago, now as much as the Hawks are trying to get better they may look to still move some players that have some pretty good value on their team and Murphy is one of them, now Murphy is a solid top 4 defensemen who has been with the Hawks for a couple of seasons now and still has a few years left in his deal so there is no guarantee that the Hawks will move him, but with lots of teams who would love to add a right handed defender with experience I think there is a possibility the Hawks consider moving him and there would be a lot of interest in him and I think the Hawks would be able to nab a pretty good return if they decided to move him so I am not saying it will happen but I think we will hear is name at times this year.
A.Ekblad -29
Contract Status: 1 year at $7.5 Million
Stats: 4-14-18 in 51GP
Position: RD
Age: 28
2 teams linked: Leafs and Canucks
Analysis: next up we have a player currently playing in the Stanley Cup Final and that is Panthers defender Aaron Ekblad. Now after the Cup Final is done the Panthers have a few contract to take care of including one around Reinhart and one for Montour, now in order to get both of these guys signed before the deadline the Panthers will need to free up some cap space and they may be able to do that by moving Ekblad, now he is a great defender but may be the 3rd best blueliner in Florida by next year and the Panthers have showed they can play well without him the past few seasons and the move would bring in Florida a solid return and free up the necessary cap space they need to sign guys like Reinhart and Montour, so I think it is possible he stays but with him also entering the final year of his deal I think there may actually be a strong chance we see him move this offseason.
M.Pettersson -30
Contract Status: 1 year at $4.03 Million
Stats: 4-26-30 in 82GP
Position: LD
Age: 28
2 teams linked: Av’s and Utah
Analysis: and finally we have Marcus Pettersson who is also in Pittsburgh, now Pettersson is in the same sort of predicament that Smith is in with Pittsburgh and that is that he is a solid player and is coming off a pretty good season, but with him entering the final year of his deal and the Penguins wanting to change things up and get younger, it sounds like there is a very strong likelihood that Pettersson will probably get dealt, now he isn’t on a bad contract, is a bit on the younger side and plays the right side which is something a lot of teams would look for and he would come at not too bad of a price tag which would make him a very hot commodity in the offseason, so it will be interesting to see but I believe there is a strong ch ace we see Pettersson get moved in the not too distant future.
3 Honorable mentions
C.Perfetti, C.Parayko, M.Frost
*Board was made before Hronek was dealt
So that’s my current top 30 trade bait list as it sits right now, I would love to hear your thoughts on it and who you think I should add/take off of it and like I said I will have a updated list closer to the draft but for now here it is and I would love to hear your thoughts on all that was discussed in the blog post down in the comments below.
