2022 7RD (BOS 215)                        2023 7RD (LA)

Then we had 5 other trades that involved a player being moved and here they are

Washington                 New Jersey

2022 2RD (NJ 37)                  Vitek Vanecek

2022 3RD (NJ 70)                2022 2RD (WIN 46)

Analysis: the Devils are trying to improve for the upcoming season and they have addressed a serious need as they have acquired Vitek Vanecek as well as the 46th overall pick in the 2022 draft from the Washington Capitals in exchange for the 37th and 70th picks in the 2022 draft. Now first for the Devils they get a really good young goalie who I think can play as a 1A in New Jersey and I think that they can come together on a contract extension as Vanecek is a RFA but they get a young goalie who has shown how good he can be in the regular season and I think can give New Jersey the saves when they need them. Then the two teams went and swapped first round picks as a Washington moved up nine spots to where the Devils were picking and Devils dropped nine spots to where the Capitals would’ve used the Jets pick and on top of that the Devils also send the Capitals a 3rd pick. So after reacquiring Vanecek last year for a 2RD pick they now get back a 3rd pick and moving up 9 spots in the draft and I will say I think that they could’ve gotten more but this was still a pretty good haul and for the time being at least I am going to say the Devils won this deal.

Jason Mowry USA Today Sports

Detroit                       St.Louis

Ville Husso                  2022 3RD (DET 73)

Analysis: the Red Wings are able to acquire and extend a goalie that will give them a lethal tandem in net next year as they acquire and extend pending UFA goalie Ville Husso from the ST.Louis Blues in exchange for a 3RD pick in 2022. The Red Wings I don’t think were in absolute need of a tandem goalie but I think this is a huge win for them. A lot of people had Husso as the fourth best UFA goalie out there and for Detroit to nab him is a huge win for the Red Wings as after they acquired him they extended him on a three year contract extension that will carry a AAV of $4.75 Million so I think he would most likely be the 1A in Detroit with Nedeljkovic at 1B for next year and with Nedeljkovic a year away from free agency they can have those two as the tandem as next year and then bring in Cossa the year after and have him tandem with Husso for the few years after would be smart but this is a great pickup by the Red Wings. And as for the Blues they were probably not bringing back Husso anyway given the fact that he would cost too much for them so getting a 3RD pick for a pending UFA is a major win for the Blues and for different reasons I think both of these teams won this trade.

Brad Penner USA Today Sports

Philadelphia                   Carolina

    Tony DeAngelo                    2022 4RD (PHI 101)

 2022 7RD (CAR 220)            2023 CON 3RD (PHI)

                                                   2024 2RD (PHI)

Analysis: after a lot of speculation over the past few weeks Tony DeAngelo winds up being moved to a surprising team at least in my opinion in Philadelphia for a nice haul for Carolina. With the Canes having cap problems it seemed like they weren’t able to get DeAngelo signed and he goes to Philadelphia where they are reportedly going to sign him to a 2 year contract extension at $5 Million dollars and I know they are bad defensively but they already have high paid Right side Defensemen in Ellis and Ristolainen on this team and I think for the time being he is going to be the third defensemen on the depth chart and while it does puzzle me a bit the Flyers are definitely getting a really good offensive defensemen. Then for the Canes they signed DeAngelo for free last year and while they weren’t able to keep him in their top 4 for next year they are able to get a 4TH, 3RD and 2ND for him and while the 3RD is in next years deep draft and the 2ND is in a few years this is quite a good haul for the Canes and while Philadelphia wins this trade for now I think in the future it could be the Canes who come away as the winners in this trade.

San Jose                Nashville

  Luke Kunin                  John Leonard

                                       2023 3RD (SJ)

Analysis: the Predators are able to get rid of a tiny bit of cap space to help try and sign Forsberg by moving Like Kunin who was a pending RFA to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for young forward John Leonard and a 3RD pick in next years deep draft. Kunin is a okay bottom six forward and won’t produce much offensively but can score at opportune moments and I think with him signing at $1.5-2 million and I think San Jose could definitely use his services and for a good depth piece the Predators get Leonard who is also a RFA but wouldn’t cost nearly as much as Kunin and a pick in the 3RD of next years draft and for a cap dump that is a pretty darn good return for Nashville.

 Chicago                         Pittsburgh

Liam Gorman                      2022 6RD (CHI 167)

Analysis: not a big flashy trade as unsigned prospect Gorman was moved to Chicago for a 6RD pick going to Pittsburgh. The 6RD pick helped the Penguins draft capital while the Blackhawks get a young player who hasn’t produced much in College as he was a former 6RD pick in 2018 and has only put up 6 points in each of the last 2 season in the NCAA so the Hawks take a chance on a low level prospect while the Penguins will get some draft capital with the 6RD pick.
