NHL trade rumours and News
Some recent signings
Defensemen Alex Vlasic who was the 43rd overall pick (2RD) in 2019 of the Blackhawks has signed his ELC for 3 years at $.916 Thousand dollars and will be turning pro. Vlasic has had a decent season in college putting up 8 points in 32 games and he could be a big piece of Chicago’s blue line for the future and that could start soon as recent reports say he could go directly to the Blackhawks real soon so will see where Chicago vies him in the short and long term.
The Ducks have also signed a 2019 2RD pick (47th overall) and it is newly acquired Drew Helleson who signs a 3 year entry level contract worth $.925 Thousand dollars per year. Helleson was recently acquired by Anaheim in the Manson deal and will now turn pro. He had 25 points in 32 games in College this year and ether he goes to the Minors or NHL but at least the Ducks have another young Defensemen signed.
Boston has signed undrafted centre Marc McLaughlin to a 2 year entry level contract worth $.833 Thousand dollars per year and he will get his pro career started after having 32 points in 33 games in college this past year.
Mark Jankowski has been placed on Waivers by the Sabres. In my mind this is a move because the Sabres are about to get a healthy body back in their lineup and they needed to clear a roster spot. In my opinion I would be a bit shocked if he was claimed as he is a nice bottom six forward and is on a cheap one year deal but in my opinion he just doesn’t have a good enough season to be claimed but who knows we will have to see tomorrow if he is claimed.
Middleton drawing interest from Toronto, Tampa and Boston.
On insider trading today Pierre LeBrun said that a number four f Atlantic Division teams are inquiring about sharks defensemen Jacob Middleton. Middleton has played before this year in the NHL, the past three seasons Sharks but didn’t get in more than 10 games and was basically a AHL call up but this year he has been playing consistent top 4 minutes for San Jose and has proved he can be a everyday NHL D-Men as he has put up 3 goals and 9 points in 42 games this year and with his emergence even though he is a cheap defensemen and a RFA at the end of the year Middleton could be traded and I would trade him if I was San Jose because they could sell high. The Asking price for him would be similar to the Josh Manson return and I think that’s a little much but teams who are currently interested are the Bruins, Lightning and Maple Leafs as these Atlantic teams could use cheap defensive depth for their playoff run.
Chiarot scratched means a trade is close.
Ben Chiarot was scratched for today’s game against Arizona due to Management’s decision and with that a trade could materialize in the very near future. Chiarot has been the hot top of trade discussions early in the year when Montreal started awfully and given he is a highly sought after top 4 pending UFA D-Men it makes sense why he would be traded out of Montreal who is the lowest team in the league. Now he caries a $3.5 Million dollar cap hit and the asking price is a 1RD pick which according to the latest reports might be a tad two high so some teams might wait until closer to the deadline do that they could get Chiarot at possibly a lower price and some of the teams who have interest and all these teams I think have legit interest and I wouldn’t be shocked if they pulled off a deal would be St.Louis, Florida and Colorado so there are a lot of possibilities for Chiarot but do expect him moved in the coming days.
Detroit open for business, will consider almost anything including Bertuzzi.
Some reports were said today that the Red Wings are willing to consider any trade offer on almost any of their players and that includes young forward Tyler Bertuzzi. The Red Wings have definitely surprised some people with how well they have played including me but they are at 55 points and 21 points back of the Capitals for the last playoff spot so while they have improved and do seem to be coming out of the rebuild they will probably be sellers this year. I would say that Seider and Raymond and possibly Larkin and Nedeljkovic as well are the untouchables in Detroit but i think they could consider moving anyone else. I think they would first consider moving pending UFA’s like Nick Leddy or Vladislav Namestnikov because majority of the defence is a pending UFA and after that they will consider more younger players. There was already talk about Pittsburgh having interest in Bertuzzi and former first round pick Filip Zadina has been in trade talks this season so while I personally think they shouldn’t trade a good young player before the deadline Detroit’s GM Steve Yzerman has made bold moves at the deadline before including last year with Mantha.
Hoffman another Canadien being shopped
As the Canadiens gear up for a few days of trade drama that should begin a rebuild another Canadien forward with term is being shopped by Montreal. Mike Hoffman who signed a 3 year contract worth $4.5 Million per year this past offseason and while it hasn’t gone all bad this is probably not the Canadiens team that Hoffman thought he was signing with in the offseason. Now he will still have 2 years after this year so while Montreal is shopping him I do feel this would be a trade for the offseason but he has been a very productive player this year for Montreal putting up 23 points in 44 games and if he was traded before the deadline look for a contender to acquire him if they can make the money work and if it is a move that happens in the offseason then look for a team with top 6 question marks to acquire him.
Dermott receiving interest
As the Maple Leafs look for some answers when it comes to adding to their team their is one player who they could move before the deadline who is starting to gain interest and that is Dermott. Now Dermott has been the seventh defensemen for most of the season and has gotten into a couple games but not a lot putting up 5 points in 42 games and with his depletion spot on the Maple Leafs roster their is some who think he could be traded. He has $1.5 Million on his deal for the rest of this year and next before becoming a RFA and a fresh start could be good for him and with Toronto wanting to add at all three positions and they needing to clear some cap space they could definitely trade him in what would be a bigger package that brought them a better player but definitely keep an eye on Dermott before the deadline.
Some teams could call on Anderson in Buffalo
The Sabres have had some rocky goaltending this year but one bright spot is veteran Goalie Craig Anderson. Anderson was rumoured to retire in the offseason but he wound up signing in Buffalo on a 1 year deal worth $.750 Thousand for this year and now he has been putting up some great numbers having .907 SV% and a 2.96 GAA in 18 games played and for a veteran in his forties he has played brilliantly. Now because he is a pending UFA and has played well and is a very cheap player if their is a team looking for goalie depth he could be a guy a contender looks at and while there is no guarantee he is traded I do think he does get traded by the deadline.
