A major trade between Chicago and Tampa has happened.
Chicago Tampa Bay
2023 1RD (TB) Brandon Hagel
2024 1RD (TB) 2022 (4RD) CHI
Boris Katchouk 2024 (4RD) CHI
Taylor Raddysh
Analysis: this is a absolutely stunning trade and while at this time I don’t have all of the information from what I gather this is going to be a major deal for both sides involved. Let’s start with Tampa Bay as they have just found what should be their long term replacement for Blake Coleman. Hagel has played in 2 full NHL season now and after putting up 9 goals and 24 points in 52 games last year he has become a goal scoring machine putting up 21 goals and 37 points in 55 games this year and has really blossomed this year. In the Lightning organization he should play on the Lightning’s third line in my opinion which is where Blake Coleman played during their two stanley cup runs. But unlike Blake Coleman who they got for a year and a half before he left via free agency, Hagel is a different story as he has two more seasons after this year at a affordable $1.5 Million dollar cap hit and will then be a RFA so he could and will in my opinion be a long term player in Tampa and I really like the fit in Tampa. Also Tampa gets two 4RD picks so even though they do lose a couple of high picks they still will have some draft capital over the coming years but I am worried they heavily overpaid for him. And now for Chicago this is a monster return, fit for a rebuilding king. They get two first round picks one in 2023 which is supposedly going to be a very deep draft next year as well as a 1RD pick in 2024 so while they don’t get a 1RD pick for this years they now have two extra picks for years to come (UPDATE: both picks are top 10 protected), and that is quite amazing in my opinion that the Blackhawks were able to get such a overpayment on a depth piece. And on top of the 2 1RD picks in the coming years they also get two vey good young players in my opinion. Getting Raddysh and Katchouk is amazing for Chicago as both players have had decent seasons in their first full year at the NHL level. First Katchouk as he has played in over half of the Lightnings games this year but was more of their 13th forward putting up 2 goals and 6 points in 38 games this year and even though he hasn’t been very productive at the NHL level I do think in a right environment like Chicago he could be a well rounded bottom 6 forward and the former 2nd rounder is signed at a cheap $.758 Thousand for the next two years before becoming a RFA. And Raddysh who was the more productive of the two has occasionally been scratched but put up a nice total doubling Katchouk’s production having 5 goals and 12 points in 53 games this year and in my opinion with the right line mates I see him being a middle six forward in the future for Chicago. And just like Katchouk he will also have two seasons after this year at a $.758 Thousand dollar cap hit and if these two players turn into everyday NHLers and can contribute to the Blackhawks I think the Blackhawks would definitely win this deal. I think that the Bolts heavily overpaid here and the Blackhawks are in dream land with the return that they have gotten and while I think the Bolts are probably done before the deadline make no mistake this is the start for Chicago
