NHL trade rumours and News
Some recent signings
Rasmus Ristolainen and the Flyers agreed to a contract extension for 5 years and a AAV of $5.1 Million starting next year. Ristolainen has now had a good season not putting up the points he would usually but he is on a bad Flyers team right now so maybe he regains his form but still I think that this is a bit of a overpayment as he is a good Defensemen but I personally don’t think giving him over $5 Million for a five year period was not the smartest move and I have do have my doubts about the long term fit but if Ristolainen can play up to the level of that contract then it would be a win in my eyes for Philly.
Joe Pavelski ain’t going nowhere as he signs a extension with Dallas for 1 more season at a decreased cap hit of $5.5 Million for next season. This will keep him in Dallas for the rest of this year and for next year so he has been taken out of trade chatter. He has spent two and a half seasons in Dallas and put up some great numbers offensively on a line with Robertson and Hintz and with his offensive production this is a great signing it is low risk because it is only for a year and a even though is is quite a high cap hit I do think it is for value for Dallas.
Markus Niemelainen and the Oilers agree to a 2 year deal worth $.763 Thousand dollars per year. He has gotten a taste of NHL action this year and could be a bottom pairing D-Men in the near future and I do believe this is a good signing for Edmonton.
Pittsburgh has signed undrafted free agent right winger Corey Andonovski to a 2 year entry level contract worth $.925 Thousand dollars per year.
Remi Poirier a 2020 6th round pick has signed his entry level contract with the Dallas Stars in a 3 year deal worth $.836 Thousand dollars per year.
Buffalo looking for a Power Partner
I have heard this rumour from a couple of place this week but it seems as though with top prospect of Buffalo Owen Power maybe coming into the NHL before seasons end with Buffalo the Sabres are apparently looking for a top 4 Defensemen to pair with Power. Now their two best top 4 D-Men are Dahlin who plays the same side as Power and Jokiharju who is more of a 2nd pairing D-Men. They don’t have a urgency to do a move right now because they could try to get a top defensemen in free agency but they could wind up trading for a defensemen before the deadline. In my opinion I think that they should wait until the offseason and don’t give up any assets as they are a rebuilding team but they should be agressive in free agency to find a partner for Power.
Arizona has interest in Vilardi
As we get closer to the trade deadline we start to see teams that are linked to one another and that is starting to take shape with the Coyotes and Kings. Now according to recent reports the Coyotes are interested in Kings forward and former 2017 1RD pick Gabriel Vilardi. Now Vilardi has a nice 3rd line role last year with the Kings and did start this year with the team however after they got healthier this year he fell down the depth charts and was sent to the minors. Now the Coyotes would like to acquire some younger players and a guy like Vilardi would be high on their list and this rumour just intensified the fact that the Kings are trying hard to trade for defensemen of Arizona Jacob Chychrun and given the interest in my opinion Vilardi would have to go back to Arizona.
Rangers opened to moving Lundkvist
New York R is trying to improve their roster for this season and they really are trying to go for it but they will have to give up something of value and apparently they are willing to move a top D prospect. Nils Lundkvist started the season with the Rangers but after playing the first third of the season was sent to the minors where he has stayed and with the emergence of Braden Schneider as a young defensemen they are apparently okay with moving him if it gets them some sort of valued player in return. In my opinion this would be a smart move for the Rangers because they have a lot of prospect D-Men and moving one for say a top 6 forward would help this team a lot.
Lehkonen drawing a ton of interest
After some brilliant games their seems to be a increase in interest in Canadiens bottom six forward Artturi Lehkonen. Lehkonen has had himself a fine season this year having 28 points in 54 games and is nearing his career high of 31 points in a season so the Canadiens could keep him or could wind up trading him before the deadline. He is a RFA and is a younger player so keeping him is definitely a option for Montreal but I do believe selling high on him is a good option and the most likely one so I would suspect he is on a contenders roster before the Deadline.
Sanheim could be traded soon.
After the signing of Ristolainen their was apparently a lot of rumours speculating that the Flyers could now be interested in moving Sanheim. Sanheim has this year and next on his deal before becoming a UFA with a cap hit at $4.67 Million. Now Sanheim is a left shot defensemen and although they like Sanheim they might have two much money tied up in their D-Corp so moving a guy like him would be doable. Now this doesn’t have to be done right now because he does still have a year left on his contract and it could be decided in the offseason but as much for my opinion I think the Flyers should try to resign him before he becomes a UFA and I don’t think they should trade him.
