15 Bold predictions before the trade deadline
These are my most prominent Bold Predictions before this years trade deadline and here is what I think will happen to some of the players and teams.
Giroux will be dealt to Minnesota for a package that includes Addison.
As much as Giroux has been mentioned to be going to Colorado I really think that Minnesota would be a fit both for Giroux as he would go to a team who is a solid contender for the cup, and for Minnesota who would get a player who can play center in their top six. And if this trade happened the Wild would have to give up something massive in return and I would say that among the 3-4 piece package the Wild would have to give up Calen Addison, as Addison is Minnesota’s best prospect defensemen and with Philly’s D situation cloudy I think they would love a guy like him.
Both Hertl and Forsberg can’t work out contract extensions with their teams and are traded by the deadline.
Both players are top end in their respective organizations with Hertl the 2nd line center in San Jose and Forsberg the top left winger in Nashville and they have both at lest expressed interest in staying with their clubs. However both these players are too high end to let walk to free agency so both players will ether get a new deal or be traded. and in Hertl’s case I think it is more likely for San Jose because the Sharks are out of the playoffs, but the Predators have to much money tied up in to few players so due to these reasons I believe both will be traded.
Chychrun will end up being moved by the deadline, for a four piece package to LA.
Chychrun name has been mentioned a lot during this season as possibly being moved by Arizona for a huge package and while you don’t normally see teams trading their best players if it were to make Arizona a better team I think they would certainly do it. And I really think LA will be the team to land him because they have so many top prospects (Especially Centers) so with the abundance of picks and prospects the Kings have, I think the Kings will come out of the deadline with a long term piece on their backend.
Braun will bring Philadelphia something more valuable than a 3rd round pick.
Justin Braun is not a very flashy player and is definitely not the most attractive UFA available but I do think that he could be in high demand over the next few weeks. Braun has played a increased role in Philly this year do to injuries and has thrived in the role putting more points then he usually would so given that fact and he is a reliable 3rd pair defensemen I think it will wind up costing a team more then a 3rd round pick to get him. So ether a 2nd round pick or a prospect better then a 3rd pick will probably be what it takes for him to be taken out of Philly.
By March 21st the Blue Jackets will have added more pieces to their roster then they sold.
Columbus is a team who could be getting into a rebuild in the near future but are a real unknown when it comes to this years trade deadline. I have heard that they could move a Laine or Texier but I believe the Jackets will add more then they sell. Now I am not saying they will not move pieces out especially upcoming UFA‘s like Domi or Korpisalo but I am just saying that even if they move out some pieces they will still end up adding because as much as people think the East playoffs are set I think Columbus has something to say about that.
The Kraken will wind up moving at least 5 players on expiring deals.
Seattle was supposed to be a really competitive team this year but they have wound up being on of the worst teams in the NHL this season leading them to be full sellers this season. So with that and the fact they will be moving out players I think that at least five players on expiring deals. Some prominent UFA’s are Calle Jarnkrok, Marcus Johansson and Mark Giordano, but they could also move RFA’s like Jared McCann, Mason Appleton and Haydn Fleury so whether UFA or RFA, They will move at least 5 on expiring deals.
Despite the concerns the Rangers will move Georgiev before the deadline.
The Rangers are a buying team but have a really question in goal as Georgiev is a pending RFA who will be looking for a raise in the offseason and with all of the Rangers new contracts it would be highly difficult to make a extension work. Now he has already asked for a trade our of NYR last offseason and the Rangers I think should sell high on him now and move him to a team who can not only afford a new deal but also give him more of an opportunity.
While Fleury has been a key topic point in trade chatter, he stays with Chicago past the deadline.
Marc Andre Fleury has been a great goalie for a lot of years now first with Pittsburgh, then Vegas and now Chicago but he now decides where he will play because of the respect he has gotten in Chicago and his ten team no trade clause so with all the problems of him facilitating a trade I just think that there is to much around fleury not to mention his $7 Million dollar cap hit so I think he remains in Chicago and will leave as a free agent not in a trade.
Boston will be adding a lot before the deadline but will wind up moving DeBrusk.
Jake DeBrusk has been on fire as of late scoring half of his fourteen goals this season in his last 5 games so their is a lot of good in having DeBrusk, however the Bruins are a playoff team and will definitely be looking to add over the next couple of weeks. But I think they will sell high on DeBrusk before the deadline and open a roster spot for a more prominent forward, moving him in ether a big deal or a smaller deal to a team who could use his scoring touch.
At least three 1rd picks from the 2017 draft will be traded before the deadline.
In 2017 we had some all-stars drafted like Makar, Heiskanen and Norris amongst other great players, but there are also a lot who have been traded and could be moved by the deadline. Now I have heard of multiple players from the first round of this draft possibly being moved like Vilardi from LA, Tippett from FLO, Joseph from PIT, Valimaki from CAL and Vaakaninen from BOS are just a few names that I have heard in these trade rumors this year.
Despite being extremely close to the salary cap and are into LTIR space, Vegas will add instead of subtracting before the deadline.
Vegas has been a team really close to the salary cap ever since acquiring Eichel in the midseason trade but since Eichel got back and they placed Stone on LTIR they have definitely played poorly so to fix that they will add. Now with Stone and Martinez in LTIR space and both could be back while the regular season is still going they would have to get rid of cap space but I think with those two injured and possibly Lehner the Knights will add somewhere as I believe they will add in any of their positions before the deadline to help their team.
New York R will trade 2 of their 3 best D Prospects before the trade deadline.
The Rangers are going to be adding before the playoffs I think everyone knows that, but if they were to improve their team right now they would have to be willing to give up some things for the future which enters the D Prospects. The Rangers have three great Defensive prospects including Nils Lundkvist, Zac Jones and Braeden Schneider and all have had time at the NHL level and with them looking for a forward and defensemen to improve their team I really believe that 2 of these 3 prospects will be on different teams come the trade deadline.
Instead of moving a forward the Canucks find a way to move Myers before the deadline and that’s how they clear space.
Vancouver is currently on the outside looking in and being a team who isn't a Stanley cup contender and is basically maxed out cap wise means that they have to much cap space tied up in their roster. Now there was a lot of talk about them moving a prominent forward like Miller or Boeser so they would have more cap space but I think they will move defensemen who is on a bad contract right now and that is Tyler Myers. He isn't a bad player but on a bad contract and even if they move a pick to trade him elsewhere I think they will trade him.
On top of moving there pending UFA’s, Montreal also trades two players with term.
Montreal is the worst team in the league this year which was surprise to me but they will be full sellers leading up to and around the deadline. Now the pending UFA’s are as good as gone, guys like Chiarot, Paquette and Kulak as well as others but I think players with term will be traded. The Canadiens have been rumoured for a major shakeup ether before the deadline or in the offseason but I think that two with term will be traded and I have heard Armia, Hoffman, Gallagher, Petry, Savard and Allen as some very likely possibilities to be moved and I think two will be moved before the deadline.
Winnipeg falls far enough out of a playoff spot that they trade Copp amongst other UFAs
Winnipeg is a team who is currently on the outside looking in in the playoff picture and will need some sort of a major comeback to make the playoffs this season. At this point in time the Jets are not to far from making the playoffs but the odds are against them so the Jets could wind up sellers by the deadline. And with that I do think that Copp will be out of Winnipeg before the deadline passes because the Jets could get quite a return for the pending UFA and although they would probably like to keep him, the return will convince them to trade Copp and some of their other pending UFA’s.
