NHL trade rumours
Blockbuster trade
Calgary Tyler Toffoli (2Y $4.25)
Montreal CON 2022 1RD, 2023 5RD, Emil Heineman (no contract), Tyler Pitlick (pending UFA $1.75)
Analysis: I was actually just going to talk about a Toffoli deal and where could he go but surprisingly the trade has now happened. Okay let’s us first look at the Flames side of the deal and who they are acquiring. Tyler Toffoli is going to be a amazing top 6 forward for them and no offense to Blake Coleman who was recently playing on the 2nd line I would believe that Calgary would put him on the 2nd line with Backlund and Mangiapane. Toffoli has this year on his contract plus 2 more season and is at a affordable cap hit of $4.25 million dollars and has put up some great numbers playing on a bad team (9G-17A-26P) in 37 games . Now I would think that because Toffoli isn’t a rental and he can play ether Wing that he would be a safety valve if Gaudreau winds up leaving as a free agent and they would need a player who could play on the top line. Now for Montreal as this is the first of many deals that will happen not just between now and March 21st but also the offseason. Tyler Pitlick was acquired so that the money works out he is currently injured but has played okay as a bottom six forward for Calgary and will probably play a similar role with Montreal as he is a pending UFA and has a cap hit of $1.75 and has put up (0G-2A-2P) in 25 games played and if someone at the deadline wants a depth forward I think Montreal could definitely flip him. Emil Heineman currently is a unsigned prospect doing some good things in the SHL as he has (11G-5A-16P) in 36 games and he was originally a Panthers prospect but Calgary acquired him in the Sam Bennett trade and he does have the potential to play as a middle six forward on the left side. Now they are going to get the 2023 5RD pick and is helps a rebuilding team like Montreal to have draft Capital. And lastly the Flames trade there 2022 1RD pick or this year first round pick but there is a condition. If the Flames wound up with a top 10 pick (which looks like Will not happen) they would keep this years first round pick and give Montreal their 2023 1RD pick and add a additional draft pick, a 2024 4RD pick to go along with next years pick if the Flames get a top ten pick this year. So this is what happened today the first blockbuster trade of the season.
Another trade
Montreal Andrew Hammond
Minnesota Brian Baddock
Analysis: this is a simple move that brings extra depth to the goalie department for Montreal. Montreal is getting a third string goalie on most teams in Hammond who is a pending UFA at a cap hit of $.750 thousand. He hasn’t played in a NHL game since the 17-18 season and should play with the big club. A list of speculation is that Primeau will be sent down to continue developing at the NHL level while Hammond will backup Montembeault until Allen is health enough to return. As for Minnesota Baddock is a physical forward and ho is also a pending UFA and has a cap hit of $.750 thousand. Baddock made his NHL debut this season playing in one game with Montreal and he will go to the minors in Minnesota and be a call up possibility if anyone gets injured for Minnesota he could be one of their first call ups.
