NHL trade rumours
Is Giroux to the Avalanche a real possibility
There has been a lot of speculation about the Flyers moving on from Captain Claude Giroux and maybe on of the landing spots is Colorado. With the recent thirteen game losing streak of the Flyers there have been planets of trade rumours and the most notable one is surrounding Claude Giroux. Giroux is the Flyers Captain and is a long time Flyer but with the Flyers heading toward missing the playoffs it sort of make sense to trade Giroux for picks and prospects and as he is a pending UFA and they could lose him for nothing in the offseason. Giroux has (15G-20A-35P) for 41 points and has a $8.275 Million dollar cap hit for the rest of the season, so the Flyers may have to retain salary or get a third team involved to make the money work but given his point production and his playing abilities there should be no shortage of interest. Now the rumour that he could go to Colorado is a good one and one I think could wind up happening because if the Avalanche trade for him and place Giroux at right wing on the second line they would have one of the best top sixes in the league so I do see the reason behind this rumour and I think it could happen and I wouldn’t be shocked if it did.
Decision on what to do for Anaheim and Dallas must be done soon
Anaheim and Dallas are going to have to make some decisions before the trade deadline. Two western conference teams the Anaheim Ducks and the Dallas Stars are both teams fighting for a playoff spot as the Ducks are at 55 points and tied for 1st in the Pacific and the Stars are at 48 points currently tied for the last Wild Card spot in the West so these two teams are right in the thick of it but they must make decisions. Anaheim is more likely to try and add before the Deadline given there position but they have three great pending UFA’s in Rickard Rakell, Josh Manson and Hampus Lindholm who could all be traded for high trade packages if they wanted to but they might try to make a run and keep them but risk losing them walk in free agency and it is the same with Dallas and their top three pending UFA’s Joe Pavelski, Alex Radulov and John Klingberg although I think they would be more inclined to try to trade their UFA’s as they are a bubble team. This is the challenge these two teams face because they are not guaranteed to be playoff teams so they aren’t going all in but they aren’t definitely going to miss the playoffs so they aren’t full sellers so they both have to try to figure out to which way they need to go.
Lots of Canuck forwards being mentioned in the Rumor mill including J.T Miller, Brock Boeser and Conor Garland
The Vancouver Canucks have definitely made some progress in chasing for a playoff spot and are doing better but they are probably not a Stanley Cup Contender right now and with recent reports that they want to clear cap space their have been multiple forwards mentioned in the Rumour mill. The three Canucks that have been mentioned are first J.T Miller who has been by far the best Canuck forward this season as he has (15G-29A-44P) in 43 games played and I for one would not be surprised to see a trade for Miller happen as his value right now is sky high and as long as the right offer comes up then I do think that the Canucks will wined up moving him because he will be a UFA after this and next year and if they don’t think they will resign him then I think they will trade him ether before the Deadline or in the Offseason. Brock Boeser is another name that has come up as he is a Pending UFA and has (12G-11A-23P) in 39 games played and would definitely draw interest from around the league as a top young RFA and given that he has had moments in Vancouver where he looks absolutely brilliant then I do think that a team who can offer up exactly what the Canucks are asking them I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens but given the fact that he is a RFA it might make more sense that they keep him, while for Conor Garland he currently makes $4.975 on his cap hit for the next five years and has (10G-14A-24P) in 40 games played and I know that he could be traded because his value is high and he is locked up for a long time at a reasonable cap hit of just under five million dollars but the fact that they traded and signed him just this past year makes me think that they will hold on to him past the trade deadline, and I would only expect a deal in the offseason.
Players with term in Montreal drawing interest including Tyler Toffoli and Jonathan Drouin
The Montreal Canadiens are apparently getting interest from two forwards who currently have term on their contract. The Canadiens are one of the worst teams in the NHL at this moment in time and they are looking at about trading just about anything and some names that have recently popped up that could be drawing interest. The first is Jonathan Drouin who has a $5.5 million dollar cap hit for this season and next and has (6G-14A-20P) in 32 games played and in my opinion it would be a difficult given his $5.5 million for a year and a half but given his point production in the right setting he could get in my opinion north of fifty points in a season so I don’t think that the trade rumour is to far fetched but I do think that trading him will wait until the offseason, while the other name is Tyler Toffoli. Now Toffoli has (9G-16A-25P) in 33 games played and has a $4.25 million dollar cap hit for the rest of this year and the next two and given how he has produced on a bad Canadiens team after being on of the leaders in goals scored last season it is safe to say that there will be plenty of teams interested. With his term and being a contrebuter offensively I think that any playoff team looking for a scoring middle six winger will call the Canadiens and I think the Rangers, Avalanche and Hurricanes would be my three best fits.
Capitals considering trading for Marc Andre Fleury
The Capitals as I have recently stated could be in the market for a goalie and they are now linked to one. The. Capitals are a playoff team and they have done really well this year and with that will probably look for a veteran backup goalie given the fact that they shouldn’t have two young goalies going to the playoffs with a limited amount of experience. Both Vanecek and Samsonov have looked really well this year at times but I do think getting a veteran like Fleury would be a smart add for the capitals given how good their offense and defence is. Now Fleury has a (2.85 GAA-.910 SV%) in 32 games played this year and after a rocky start has played really well. Fleury would work well as backup to Samsonov meaning they would probably have to get rid of Vanecek but if Samsonov doesn’t play well during the stretch or in the playoffs then the Capitals could call open Fleury and I definitely see the truth here but the problem that seems to be happening is that Fleury picks were he wants to go and would he be comfortable playing with his former teams (Pittsburgh) worst rival so that’s just something to think about.
