NHL trade rumours
9 Rumours from Tuesday FEB 22nd to Thursday FEB 24th
J.T Miller to Toronto
According to Elliott Friedman he thinks that the Maple Leafs should be trading for J.T Miller if Muzzin was to be on LTIR. Now this would really only happen if the Maple Leafs know that Muzzin will not only be out for a extended period of time but also he would have to be on the shelf until the playoffs if they are to use the cap space. But assuming that he will be out for the remainder of the regular season how nice would is be to get the cap space enough to go after a guy like a J.T Miller. Now this is just Friedman’s thought but I could definitely see a trade sending Miller to Toronto. Now the Maple Leafs have expressed getting a player with term this season at the deadline and Miller is signed for this year and next at a reasonable $5.25 Million dollar cap hit and has been the Canucks best player putting up 57 points in 51 games and if the Maple Leafs were able to get him they could fit him on the second line with Tavares and Nylander. But in order to get him they would have to give up some prominent pieces and the Canucks are looking for three to four young assets in return for Miller and a lot of people have linked star D prospects Topi Niemela and Timothy Liljegren so the Maple Leafs would have to give up one or both of these prospects so would they consider moving these young guys for a year and a half of Miller I guess it is debatable but I would like to know what you think in the comments.
Washington interested in Lehkonen, Calle Jarnkrok
The Capitals are a team who could be looking to add before the deadline and while their main priority should be and probably is a veteran goalie but they are now being linked to multiple bottom six forwards. The bottom six for Washington isn’t half bad but getting a major upgrade like one of these two would be great. Firstly you have Artturi Lehkonen who is currently it’s Montreal who is a full on seller. Lehkonen would bring a nice scoring touch and penalty killing ability as he has $2.3 Million dollar cap hit before becoming a RFA and could be a longer term fit, and has had 20 points in 49 games with Montreal and putting him on the third line with a guy like Eller would definitely make this team better. And the other one is Calle Jarnkrok of the Seattle Kraken, another team who is predicted to be a busy seller over the next few weeks. Jarnkrok had a shaky start in Seattle but has found a home in their top 6 now, getting 22 points in 42 games with Seattle so far this year and would definitely be an upgrade over some guys in Washington. Jarnkrok has this year at $2 Million before becoming a UFA and would definitely be a upgrade on their third line with a guy like Eller. Ether of these two players who could be placed on their third line and bring some more depth scoring is a definite possibility and I wouldn’t be shocked if Washington traded for a bottom six forward whether these two or someone else.
Forsberg being shopped
According to multiple sources the Predators are actively shopping their best forward. Now this comes as a bit of a surprise to me as the Predators are a team in the playoffs and you don’t usually see a playoff team trying to deal their best player before the deadline but apparently they are definitely trying to move him. Now why would they be considering this move, well they are considering this move due to the fact that they are not 100% cup contenders and they don’t want to let Forsberg go for nothing. And with Duchene and Johansen both making $8 Million there may be no room to sign Forsberg so the Preds May decide to move him before the deadline and try and get a nice haul for the current playoff run in return. Forsberg has a acceptable contract of $6 Million and a lot of playoff teams (non have been directly connected) would love to have a guy who can play in any top 6 and has 26 goals and 44 points but I would like you’re opinion, is it the smart move to trade Forsberg.
Clutterbuck drawing interest, Colorado a front runner
With the Islanders on the outside there is a lot of speculation that The Islanders could move pending UFA’s and one name that is drawing interest is Cal Clutterbuck. With the Islanders out of the playoffs they could move players like a Clutterbuck before the deadline. Now Clutterbuck is part of the strong fourth line in NYI and has had a really good time there but it could come to an end soon as he is drawing a lot of interest from other teams and one is Colorado. The Avalanche could look to Clutterbuck to shore up their bottom six and wouldn’t be counted on to produce offensively as he has 11 points in 47 games played this season and if they can make the money work as he does carrier a complicated $3.5 million dollar cap hit but if the Islanders retain a bit of his cap and the Avalanche offer something of interest to the Islanders I could definitely see these two teams coming together to make a deal.
Mark Giordano to get traded
Apparently Seattle GM Ron Francis and Mark Giordano have discussed a possible trade involving Seattle’s captain and he would welcome a move out of Seattle so keep your eyes on this possible trade.
Kings want Konecny
There was a recent report that said the Kings are interested in Flyers forward Travis Konecny. The Kings are currently in the midst of a playoff race in the West and have expressed interest in adding another scoring forward before the deadline and a guy like Konecny could be perfect for Los Angeles. Konecny has had a rather productive season this year putting up 31 points in 49 games and ha played in Philadelphia where Los Angeles would probably put and that would be the second line. The Flyers have been said to have explored a Konecny deal as early as last year and while he is still a young player who is signed for three years after this year at $5.5 Million they need to shake things up as they are well out of the playoffs so I definitely could see a Konecny to LA deal if the price was right and that is something we should keep an eye on.
Boyd drawing interest
Arizona is a team who is looking at anything possibly being moved before the deadline and one player is starting to garner interest. Travis Boyd is a Pending UFA and making a league minimum deal of $.750 thousand and would definitely fit in any teams cap situation. He has mostly played top 9 minutes this season due to the lack of depth in Arizona and it has had a major impact on his production as he only had 10 points in 39 games last year but with Arizona this year has 24 points in 44 games and has over doubled his production this season so there are probably a boatload of playoff contenders who could use him. I know I have heard Washington and Minnesota being linked to him but if their is a contender who can get a bottom six player having a resurgence and can play both Center and Wing then I would fully expect him to be moved in the next three weeks.
Petry to Philadelphia
This is a trade I think we would see in the offseason but it is apparently being discussed to some degree as the Flyers are currently having interest in Canadiens defensemen Jeff Petry. Petry is one of the veteran leaders in Montreal and is currently a consistent top 4 player but he has said that he would actually welcome a trade out of Montreal and if they can make the money work Philly would be a great destination for him. The Flyers want to try to retool their defence but that will probably start next year as they will be sellers at the trade deadline being far out of a playoff spot but if they could make all the money work as Petry has three years left after this year at $6.25 million so it might be tricky but they could definitely use a veteran presence like him on their bouline next year as they look to challenge for a playoff spot in the next few years.
Devils want a goalie
According to Pierre LeBrun on insider trading the Devils are looking for a goalie to come in and help them this season. They could definitely benefit from a goalie addition given that both their goalies are injured but they could consider a rental given that both goalies are signed for next year.
