NHL trade rumours
10 Rumours from Monday FEB 14th to Friday FEB 18th
Ben Chiarot trade picking up steam
According to multiple sources the Canadiens Defensemen Ben Chiarot is close to being traded and about half the league is inquiring about him. After Chiarot’s injury scare a week and a half ago their has been a lot of talk that was the Canadiens would try to move him sooner rather then later to avoid him getting injured again and this time possibly get a serious injury this time. Now the Canadiens want at least a 1st round pick and maybe another lower pick or a mid level prospect would be enough to get it to work. Now there have been many teams inked to him including Toronto, Florida, St.Louis, Los Angeles, New York R and Calgary (before they moved their 1st round pick this year for Toffoli) are just a handful of teams interested but I believe that St.Louis who lacks a veteran top 4 Defensemen and had the assets to get a deal done or rival Florida who needs another left side defensemen before going to the playoffs to shore up their Defence are the two best fits for Chiarot in my opinion and two teams that you should look out for possibly acquiring him.
Giroux to one of three teams
Almost all the insiders seem to have confirmed that the Flyers and Claude Giroux have talked about a trade out of Philly. Giroux has been the pride and soul of this Flyers team for years now and has been their Captain for recent a couple years but hasn’t had much playoff success with the Flyers. He has apparently told the Flyers management that he will be willing to waive his NMC to be traded to one of three Central Division teams. Firstly is the most obvious as he has said he’s preferred destination would be Colorado and it seems that playing for a Stanley Cup favourite where he can play on the second line and help with secondary scoring is very appealing to him and if Colorado can make the money work then the Avalanche are going to be a very likely destination for him. But he also said he would be willing to go to Minnesota or St.Louis. In Minnesota they have a lack of top Centers in their organization so acquiring a guy like Giroux who started his career as a Center would work well especially if their is chemistry between him and wingers Zuccarello and Kaprizov, while i don’t see a fit in St.Louis especially not as much as Colorado or Minnesota but if they needed to improve their top 9 (which I think they don’t) then they could look at Giroux but I think going after a D-Men for St.Louis is the more pressing concern.
Brandon Hagel and Alex DeBrincat Trade Rumours
The Blackhawks are trying to figure out which players to keep and which to trade away both before and after the deadline but these two players are some of the more interesting names out there right now. For Hagel the most recent reports say that the Blackhawks will only Hagel for a monster price and that some teams have offered a 1RD pick and possibly a mid level prospect as well. Now I know that Hagel is a good player he has had a rather productive year this season in Chicago’s bottom six and does have this year plus 2 more at a affordable $1.5 Million before being a RFA but they need to make up their mind. If you won’t trade a bottom six forward for a 1RD pick and prospect then you like the player to much to trade and if you do want to trade him then do it now if you are getting a 1RD pick in return. And on top of that they are fielding offers for Alex DeBrincat. Now I know that he would bring in a monster return and i know that they are just fielding offers but in my eyes DeBrincat is the best player on this team when Toews and Kane go he should be their best forward and you don’t trade your best forwards especially if he is young so in my mind just say that DeBrincat is off the table and try to trade other players.
Ducks D Situation
The Ducks have some decisions to make and they could impact the future of their D-Corp. They have two key pending UFA’s on their team in Hampus Lindholm and Josh Manson and they really want to keep both of them but they may try to move at least one of them if not both for the return they could get. First Lindholm might just be the best rental on the market right now but the Ducks definitely like him and could use he’s contribution in future years but with it sounding like he will test free agency the Ducks night trade him to not risk losing him for nothing in the offseason. Lindholm and the Ducks will probably at least talk about a extension before the deadline but if they can’t get something done expect him to be traded. And for Manson he has been in the rumour mill for years now and it seems like this is the year he’s destined to be traded but maybe not as recent reports say he might be interested in a extension and while I do believe that they would rather keep Lindholm then Manson if they wind up having to move Lindholm I would with no doubt say that they would try to keep Manson.
Teams checking on Brock Boeser
According to multiple sources the Canucks forward Boeser is gaining interest from around the league. Boeser is a player who started off shaky in Vancouver this year but after they made the coaching change he had a new life becoming the point producer everyone thought he was. Now the Canucks are not actively shopping Boeser but some teams like the Devils for example who have been linked to Boeser are inquiring given the fact that Vancouver is trying to cut salary and Boeser is due a $7.5 Million dollar qualifying offer and with that a team like New Jersey who has a lot of cap space and a plate Vancouver is interested in (Pavel Zacha) might tempt Vancouver to trade him but in my opinion if they were to even consider moving him they would wait until closer to the deadline.
Jakob Silfverberg available
Just a quick note that is stating that the Anaheim Ducks would be alright with moving on from Silfverberg if a team wants him. Silfverberg hasn’t had to bad a year, putting up (3G-15A-18P) in 46 games played but with all of the younger players stepping up this season he has dropped to being a consistent third line man and is a very expensive third line winger. Silfverberg currently makes $5.25 Million on his contract and will have two years left after this season. This to me seems like a offseason move as I don’t think many teams would want that kind of money right now but in the offseason they would have a lot more money to work with but maybe their is a team who trades for him and sees a fit but I just see it as a offseason move.
Justin Braun as well as Martin Jones picking up trade interest.
Apparently the Flyers have a couple of pending UFA’s who they would be willing to move before the deadline to bring in some draft capital. First Braun is garnering a ton of interest cause as much as 13 teams have at least contacted the Flyers about Braun and they way it is going right now he is a pending UFA making only $1.3 Million has had a decent offensive output this season and can play a amazing style of hockey on any contending teams 3rd pair so if the Flyers could get like a 3rd pick for him then they should do that and for Jones apparently the Flyers would be willing to trade him but he isn’t a better backup then most goalies in the NHL and would have to be traded for no more then a fourth or fifth round pick because unless he is traded to a team with serious goalie issues he would just wind up being a insurance piece.
Christian Fischer and Johan Larsson more Coyotes available
There are apparently two more forwards available for trade from the Coyotes. Arizona is looking to ship out whatever players they can get picks for and these two are another couple decent forwards. Larsson only had this year left on his deal at $1.4 Million and even though he isn’t the scariest producer offensively he does play consistent fourth line minutes and if a contending team needs to shore up their bottom six then they should definitely go after Larsson. And for Fischer he actually can be retained past this offseason because he is a pending RFA, he currently is making $1 Million dollars on his deal and could possibly be looking for a raise. Once again he is not the most flashy when it comes to producing points but he would be a great fit in any teams bottom six so if their is a team out there looking for another bottom six forward then Fischer could be their guy.
J.T Compher and Justin Barron could be included in a monster trade
A couple of players have been mentioned as possible parting pieces for a monster deal. On the one Side J.T Compher is a piece that is currently on their roster right now and they probably don’t want to give away but he might wind up being a cap casualty. Compher is by no means a bad player in fact on most teams I would say that he could be a decent second line player but he is in Colorado and in Colorado he has been a bottom six forward for the past couple years and they like what he brings as he has (9G-8A-17P) in 38 games played and caries a $3.5 Million dollar cap hit for this year and next year but if they want a top 6 forward added to their team he is the perfect candidate to make the cap work. And for Barron he is a young defensive prospect who has been recently drafted and is a prospect who many think of as a future top 4 defensemen. I can see why the Avalanche would be willing to part with him given the depth they have at defence right now so if a team who they wanted a top 6 forward for Asks for Byram it Newhook they should say no but they should definitely offer up Barron.
NEW YORK R and MONTREAL discussing a trade
Apparently the Canadiens and Rangers could be trade partners before the deadline. The Rangers are looking to acquire a forward or two and a defensemen and the Canadiens have plenty of those. And part of Canadiens management is Jeff Gorton who was part of the Rangers organization a few years ago so he knows a lot of the Rangers prospects well. I know that New York is in the market for a defensemen and Chiarot is available but I would think the most likely scenario would be with the Rangers acquiring a depth player like Lehkonen for a less valuable player like Hajek or maybe even Kravtsov but that would just be my guess.
