NHL trade rumours
7 Rumours from Saturday FEB 19th to Monday FEB 21st
Luke Schenn and Tyler Motte could be trader before the Deadline
There is in all likelihood that the Canucks could find themselves selling off key depth pieces as the trade deadline looms. The Canucks are a team that is on the outside looking in and with the team out of a playoff spot they could find themselves trading off at least depth pieces. Now there were talks that the Canucks could trade a big name forward and while that is still a possibility it is the little guys who are getting noticed. First Tyler Motte is a amazingly skilled bottom six forward who can produce offensively and has been a great addition for the Canucks since acquiring him a few years ago but now he is a pending UFA and could try to go elsewhere in free agency and with his stock relatively high the Canucks should try to trade him in my opinion because they could get a fair bit in return and while I would not rule out him resigning I just think that he should move. And for Luke Schenn he went back to Vancouver in the Offseason following a couple Stanley Cup wins with Tampa and if it doesn’t look like Vancouver will make the playoffs they could move him because a team looking to go to the playoffs could try to get Schenn to help on the backend and with his recent playoff experience could be a valuable piece on a contender.
Jakub Chychrun talks picking up with LA the front runner
Now that the trade deadline is coming up fast the Chychrun Trade rumours are back and a team who I believe is a amazing fit for him is the front runner. With the deadline creeping up and the Coyotes starting to make their moves the Chychrun rumours are back. Now as a top 4 defensemen who is signed to a team friendly contract for multiple years he would be the top player to be moved if a team can get him before the deadline. Now there are quite a few teams who are currently interested in Chychrun like Boston or Florida but the front runner right now is Los Angeles. Now they could use a top 4 D-Men with NHL experience and Chychrun would be a great fit in Los Angeles. The Kings could offer up a top 10 protected 1RD pick, Gabriel Vilardi who has now been linked to Arizona as the Coyotes seem to like this player and given he is in the minors for LA there is a likely chance they trade him, and the third piece could be a prospect Center like Alex Turcotte, Tyler Madden and Rasmus Kupari or a D prospect like Tobias Bjornfot or Sean Durzi but their is a long list of great Los Angeles prospects that they could move and Arizona might just be happy to make a trade with LA.
Alex Georgiev to Vegas a strong possibility
According to multiple reports the Golden Knights and Rangers could work out a trade. The Golden Knights are currently in the Market for a goalie after the Lehner injury and they could be looking at goalie replacements for Lehner and one name is Alex Georgiev. Georgiev is a great goalie who wants more of a opportunity so the Rangers could move him and with Vegas interested the Rangers are interested in a Golden Knights player and that is Reilly Smith. Smith had had a great year for Vegas but the Golden Knights could need to clear cap space if they want to activate players off of the Injury reserves so a swap of two decent players in Smith and Georgiev as well as other things could be in the cards.
Artem Zub on the move shot down
There was a rumour earlier this week that the Sens might be considering moving Artem Zub. The Senators are a team who looks like they will miss the playoffs and they should be sellers going into the deadline but this trade rumour came as a surprise. Zub is not a bad player actually he is one of the Senators best players on the defensive side as he is playing top line minutes and while he is a defensive minded defensemen he can still produce offensively and he is a good D-Men. This trade rumour sparked another stating that the Maple Leafs could target Zub as their number one target to acquire a defensemen but as Zub is signed for at least one more year with Ottawa the Senators quickly said that they have no intention to move him and I agree that he will not move and he will probably remain a Sen for the future.
Stars to attempt a Joe Pavelski Re-Sign
Apparently the Stars are going to try hard before the deadline to re sign amazing forward Joe Pavelski. Pavelski had had amazing productivity with the Starts not only in this season (21G-32A-53P) in 50 games played but also throughout his time in Dallas (60G-75A-135P) in 173 games with the Stars over three years and given his production even though he is a older player the Stars would be sorry if they didn’t try to at least keep him. He would bring some scoring touch to a solid contending team if the Stars don’t end up signing him and they decide to trade him but I think you don’t trade someone who has that kind of production even if he is a Pending UFA so I think contract extension or no Pavelski should stay with Dallas.
Bryan Rust has no extension talks right now
According to multiple sources the Penguins and Bryan Rust are currently not discussing a contract extension and that has some people wondering how long Bryan Rust going to be a Penguin. Rust has been a remarkably productive player this year putting up 18 goals and 39 points in 31 games and has been a great piece in their top six now the Penguins will probably look at him being a UFA this upcoming offseason and even though he is a free agent at seasons end they will use him as their own rental but after this year it is reported that he could be looking for 6x6 on his next contract and Pittsburgh might not have enough money to resign him, and I believe they definitely won’t have enough money for him if he wants that and Pittsburgh tries to sign Malkin and Letang first but let me know if you think they can bring back Rust.
Patrik Laine possibly being traded
According to multiple sources the Blue Jackets could consider trading Laine ether before the deadline or in the offseason. Laine has been in a hot point streak lately and could definitely be gaining interest. He is a pending RFA and owed a monster $7.5 Million dollar qualifying offer and if he just accepts the qualifying offer the Jackets risk him just walking to free agency so I definitely see the reason behind possibly trading him and would they even want to sign him to a long term extension given his shaky start, it’s probably up for debate and the return they could ask for in a trade would be astonishingly high but in my opinion keep him. Keeping him keeps a go to goal scorer and while he has had a shaky start to his time in Columbus I think he finally found a home and if they moved him they would be moving one of their best players this year as he has 36 points in 32 games so I think find some reasonable cap hit that works for the team and player for between 3-6 years and try to make this work Columbus.
