NHL Trade Rumors
I will post trade rumours on DEC 6th, 10th, 13th, 17th and 20th before Christmas to give you some info on some of the top rumours in the league right now
Waivers
Chirstian Wolanin placed on waivers by Buffalo: claimed back by Los Angeles
Kale Clague placed on waivers by Los Angeles: claimed by Montreal
#1) DeBrusk asks for a trade, up to ten teams have contacted Boston, Seattle a possible favourite
Early last week we found out that Jake DeBrusk has asked for a trade out of Boston. This comes as no real surprise as he has been in the trade rumor mill for the last year ever since he had a down year last season and the Bruins could make this move soon as they want to sign Rask and need cap space to do so, maybe they even move him before the trade freeze on the December 19th. According to multiple sources there’s been at least 8 to 10 teams who have checked in on Jake DeBrusk and could be wanting his services, the Bruins have stated they want the best player available to replace DeBrusk in their current lineup, and of all the teams that I’ve heard that could be interested in DeBrusk the one name that I keep hearing is Seattle as they are a team who’s looked better the last couple games and the one player I just kept hearing who could be moved for DeBrusk is Appleton who is another good young forward on a cheaper contract than DeBrusk’s, but there’s been plenty of other teams checking in including possibly New York R, St. Louis, Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, New Jersey, and possibly others as well.
#2) Maple Leafs could make a trade soon with cap space needed to activate Mrazek
The Maple leaf have almost no cap space and if they are to activate Petr Mrazek from LTIR then they are going to need to move out salary. Now they could send one of their forwards on waivers Like a Simmonds or Ritchie but a lot more likely scenario would be trading a Justin Hall or Travis Dermott. In my opinion I think Holl or Dermott could fetch a mid round pick for the maple leafs and a team who is in desperate need of a bottom pair right shot defenceman could be looking at Holl or Dermott. And I think a trade could happen in the near future with Mrazek on a conditioning stint in Toronto of the AHL so look for this to happe soon.
#3) if Pittsburgh falls out of a playoff spot look for them to trade Rust and/or Zucker
If the penguins are heading towards not making the playoffs this year then reports that they could be moving on from Zucker and/or Rust. The Penguins could move both pending UFA’s as they have been shopping them for the last little while and they could be very valuable as I was thinking at least a second round pick if now a first round pick for Rust ans at least a middle round pick for Zucker. Zucker has never really fit in with the penguins organization and moving on from him would be a very smart choice given how he’s played with Pittsburgh but Rust has been an amazing fit for the Penguins and I would only trade him if they were absolutely not going to make the playoffs because any team would love to have a guy like Rust for the playoffs. So if their head towards the playoffs I don’t think either of them gets traded but I could see both of them being traded if they are heading away from the playoffs.
#4) if Philly doesn’t improve could Claude Giroux be moved
Philadelphia had a great start going 6-2-2 in the first ten games but have trailed off since and are currently on an eight game losing streak which ponders the question would you consider trading Claude Giroux the teams Captain as well as the heart and soul of the team. Now if I was the Flyers GM I would probably wait until a lot closer to the deadline before making a decision but if they are heading towards the playoffs then it wouldn’t make sense to move him butif they continue to play like they are now and look like they will miss the playoffs then I think they could and should trade Giroux. I think in a Giroux trade the Flyers could get at least a first round pick and a top prospect or top forward and could be looking at a very big haul if they were to move their Captain.
BIG NEWS
Vancouver clears house
Late last night broke news that the Canucks have fired Head Coach Travis Green and released GM Jim Benning if his duties, and on top of that the Canucks signed Bruce Boudreau to take over at the head coaching position. In my opinion this was long over due as Green has had some good times in Vancouver over his tenure his start this season and how frustrated he was on the bench just felt like it was inevitable. And as for his replacement Bruce Boudreau has been a great coach over his time and last coached during the 2019-20 season with Minnesota. Boudreau has a winning record as head coach and I think could fit well with Vancouver as he gets more out of his offensive players and the offense is hurting in Vancouver right now so they could start scoring more and on top of that Boudreau is only 16 regular season games away from coaching 1000 games in the NHL. And on top of that they also fired assistant coach Nolan Baumgartner and along with Boudreau they have also hired new assistant coach Scott Walker. GM Jim Benning and assistant GM John Weisbrod have both been relived of duties, while Stan Smyl will be interim GM as the Canucks will look for a permanent GM. Is was inevitable that Benning would lose his job as he has always given too many bad contracts as he would give bottom six players too much money and it always hurt Vancouver’s salary cap, and all the moves he has made this year to try and make the Canucks better has actually made them worse. Smyl was already in the Canucks organization and will be interim GM as the Canucks will look for a permanent one.
Philly fires coach
Vancouver wasn’t the only team to fire they’re coach as Alain Vigneault was fired today along with assistant coach Michel Therrien. The Flyers started the season very well as they started 6-2-2 in their first ten games but have since dropped to 8-10-4 including dropping eight consecutive games. Vigneault had a good first season where the Flyers made the playoffs in the bubble but haven’t looked as good since and with them free falling it was only a matter of time before he was let go. As for who takes over Mike Yeo is the interim Head Coach in Philadelphia and does have some coaching experience as he was head coach in Minnesota and St.Louis before and owns a record of 246-181-55 as a NHL Head Coach ans Philly hopes this turns there season around.
