3 Biggest News and rumors entering September

#1) Kotkaneimi offer sheet

On Saturday some big news came out as the Carolina Hurricanes have offer sheeted Montreal Canadiens RFA Jesperi Kotkaniemi to a 1 year $6.1 Million dollar contract. So here are some interesting notes, The Canadiens offer sheeted Canes forward Sebastian Aho 2 years ago in 2019 and the Canes quickly matched but the Canes not only like the player but it seems they want revenge as there was $15 dollars added to the end of the contract (15 is Kotkaniemi’s number) and they added a $20 dollar signing bonus (20 is Aho’s number) so there are a lot of ways to look at this as revenge. If the Canes get Kotkaniemi they will be a bit over the Cap but a lot of people think that moving Gardiner will be the best move them and some already think that Carolina and Kotkaniemi have had preliminary discussions on a long term deal at less money. If Montreal matches they will have to move out a contract and might complicate things in the future because the Canadiens would need to give Montreal a $6.1 Million qualifying offer to remain a Canadien next year if they can’t work out a long term deal. And lastly if the Canadiens do not match like most people think they will get Carolina’s 1RD and 3RD picks in 2022 and rumor has it that Montreal might use those picks to trade for another Center to replace Kotkaniemi like Christian Dvorak from Arizona.

#2) Eichel still not traded

After trading Ristolainen and Reinhart around the 2021 Draft, Captain Eichel is still a member of the Sabres. After the season ended three players sounded displeased with Buffalo and that was Ristolainen (traded to Philadelphia), Reinhart (traded to Florida) and Eichel. Eichel and the Sabres have also had sticking points on the type of surgery that he should have as the Sabres want one where it is more traditional for a hockey player but has a longer recovery time while Eichel wants a surgery that has never been done on a NHL player but has showed good resultsand quicker recovery time from people who have taken it. And the Sabres are looking for 4 items in a deal that are comparable to 1RD picks and so far no team has offered up that and Eichel has recently changed agents to Pat Brisson so maybe the Situation starts going smoothly as we near training Camp.

#3) the Coyotes have no building after this year

A coupled weeks ago the city of Glendale announced that they are kicking out Arizona from Gila River Arena after this season and will have no home after this season.
