News

#1) Tony Deangelo bought out

Deangelo has been bought out by the New York Rangers. Last year he had a altercation with some teammates and was banned from playing with the franchise. They have $.383 Thousand of dead cap next year and $.838 Thousand of dead cap space for the year after and should be able to get a team to give him a contract.

#2) Marc Staal resigns

Marc Staal has resigned with the Red Wings on a 1 year deal worth $2 Million. Staal should remain a effective top 4 D-Men with the Red Wings and should continue being a great leader to there young core.

#3) Jake Virtanen bought out

Jake Virtanen has had the final year of his contract bought out by the Canucks. Vancouver had lost faith in Virtanen as he has not been a consistent point producer for the Canucks since entering the lead and I think the acquisition of Garland was the final nail in the coffin. Vancouver will have $.50 Thousand on the cap for the upcoming year and $.500 Thousand on their cap the following year and will have $3 Million extra in cap space for this year.

#4) minor deals

There have been 2 minor deals as Boston acquired James Greenway signing rights from Toronto for Future Considerations, and New Jersey acquired Cristian Jaros from San Jose for Nick Merkley and then signed Jaros to a 1 year $.800 Thousand deal. Here are 7 more minor signings, Fredric Allard signed a 1 year $.750 Thousand extension with Nashville, Noah Juulsen signed a 1 year $.750 Thousand extension with Florida, Samuel Morin signed a 1 year $.750 Thousand extension with Philadelphia, Nick Wolff signed a 1 year $.750 Thousand extension with Boston, Adam Gaudette signed a 1 year $.998 Thousand extension with Chicago, Andrew Hammond signed a 1 year $.750 Thousand extension with Minnesota, and Gustav Lindstrom signed a 2 year $.850 Thousand extension with Detroit.

Rumors

#1) St.Louis and NYI to go after Landeskog

Landeskog has still not signed a new deal with the Avalanche and we are only 2 days away from free agency. If he hasn’t signed a new deal by Wednesday and test free agency expect the Blues and Islanders to go after him. The blues are trying to trade Tarasenko and if they can give him away and not take on too much cap space they could try to sign Landeskog and the Islanders have a ton of cap space and wanted a more dynamic winger for Barzal and Landeskog would be that.

#2) Arizona not done trading players

The Coyotes have been busy taking on bad contracts like Ladd and Gostisbehere and acquiring picks with them and have also given up OEL and Garland to Vancouver for picks and bad contracts but they are not done yet. They still have three likely trade candidates Kessel who has 1 year left and can produce in a middle 6 role, Dvorak who some teams who don’t get one of the top end center’s can circle back and try and get Dvorak, and Kuemper who can be a solid starting or backup goalie for a team and has only 1 year left on his contract.

#3) NJ to try to get Hamilton

Hamilton is the top Defensemen in free agency this year and is looking for probably something between $8 Million and $9 Million and has not worked out a extension with the Canes yet. So if he goes to free agency there have been reports that New Jersey would go after him, they have the Cap Space to sign him to a great new deal and he could mentor there very young D-Core and help get Jersey back to the playoffs.

#4) Washington to resign Ovechkin before Wednesday

Washington is trying to get a extension in place with older superstar Alex Ovechkin before he hits the open market. Ovechkin the long time Capital and the Caps organization have said that a deal will get done before Wednesday and on Elliott Friedman’s latest podcast he said that they could agree to a 3-4 year extension worth around $10 Million.

#5) Hyman to sign with Edmonton on Wednesday instead of a trade

According to multiple sources Hyman will end up reaching the free agent market. Hyman has been rumoured to have already signed a contract with Edmonton and the Oilers we’re trying to trade for his rights but wanted to only give up a 6th or 7th but Toronto wanted a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick so instead of trading for Hyman’s rights they will reportedly sign him in free agency to a 7 year deal that is around the $5 Million AAV.
