#1) Travis Dermott has signed a 2 year contract extension worth $3 Million and a AAV of $1.5 Million. Dermott has been a soild defender for the Maple Leafs and if he stays on the team would compete for the third pair but after he was scratched several times in the Playoffs I think he would be left unprotected in the Expansion draft and if i am Seattle I would take him.
Rumours
#1) Tarasenko has asked for a trade out of St.Louis
Tarasenko has now requested a trade from the blues and might be moved in the coming days or weeks. Apparently he felt that he’s injury’s we’re not resolved properly with the team and now wants out. He still has 2 years at $7.5 Million and is a proven 40 goal scorer and I have heard both New York teams, Florida and Los Angeles ether express interest or be rumoured to be a good fit.
#2) Teams calling Panthers about pending UFA Driedger
Chris Driedger is a Pending UFA and will be exposed in the expansion draft due to Bobrovsky having a NMC so Driedger being moved for something now rather than letting him walk for nothing on July 28 and I would peg the Sabres, Oilers, or Red Wings as three teams who could acquire the goalie.
#3) Buyout period starting at around 8 P.M. Pacific and my five most likely players to be bought out.
The Buyout period starts 24 hours after the Stanley Cup is awarded and the Cup was handed out around 8 last night so is stands to reason that the Buyout period should start at around 8 today. My top 5 buyout candidates #1 Tony DeAngelo he had a altercation with some teammates and the Rangers said he would not be brought back and would save them just over $4.4 Million next year.
#2 Zach Parise was scratched late in the season and in the first few playoff games and with Minnesota trying to improve and facing Cap Problems it might make sense to buy him out and it would saves them over $5.1 Million next year but only $1.16 in 2 years and in the third and fourth year only $.166 Thousand. #3 James Neal one of the worst contracts in the NHL and has been under performing on that contract since he signed it and would save them just over $3.8 Million over the next two years. #4 Keith Yandle there were talks about him not starting the season on the roster but ended up playing all games in the regular season but did get scratched multiple times in the playoffs and I think has the Panthers and Yandle looking at separating and would save them just over $4 Million next year but only $.958 Thousand the year after. #5 Martin Jones after helping the Sharks make it to the cup Final in 2016 his play has decreased each season and should be a prime Buyout target and would save the Sharks just over $3.8 next year, $3.3 the year after, and $2.8 the following year.
#4) Tampa Bay’s Stanley Cup roster will look a lot different next year due to the Salary Cap.
Ramp Bay won their second consecutive Stanley Cup but face problems as they enter the offseason $5 Million above the Cap limit. They could get some help via the expansion draft where they might tempt Seattle to take Tyler Johnson and if Seattle does the Bolts will be at the Cap limit and Key parts of the Stanley Cup win Savard, Coleman and Goodrow are all Pending UFA’s si they might move on from another high priced forward such as Killorn, Gourde, or Palat as all have cap hits north of $4.5 Million dollars.
#5) OEL to Vancouver
According to a couple of sources the Vancouver Canucks are trying to work out a way to acquire Arizona defensemen Oliver Ekman-Larsson. They have been interested in OEL since last year but the Cap is a problem for the Canucks and the Coyotes have said they would retain a bit of salary and/or take on another bad contract that for a less amount of money and for a shorter time and Schmidt, Eriksson, and Virtanen could all be used in trade.
I am doing some important personal stuff tomorrow so unless there is a great trade than I will do another post on Saturday.
