News
#1) Jonas Siegenthaler signed a 2 year $2.250 Million dollar deal with a AAV of $1.125 Million. Siegenthaler had no points in 15 games with the Devils and Capitals this past season and should challenge for a spot most likely on the 3rd pair.
#2) Brett Howden signed a 1 year $.885 Thousand dollar deal to remain with the Rangers. He had a goal and 7 points in 42 games this past season and should be the 4th line center for the Rangers this season.
Trade
Chicago Edmonton
Caleb Jones Duncan Keith
CON 2022 3RD Tim Soderlund
Analysis: Edmonton gets a high priced veteran in Keith who can play in their top 4 and a young prospect in Soderlund for a Conditional 3RD pick and young D-Men Caleb Jones. Keith has 2 years on his deal at $5.54 Million and in my opinion can be in the top 4 on the 2nd pairing behind Nurse on the Right side and will bring leadership to Edmonton while Soderlund is a mid level prospect that was a 4RD from Chicago and had 5 assists in 23 games for Rockford of the AHL. Caleb Jones ( Borther of Seth from Columbus) is a good Defensemen that can play on the second or third pairing for the Black Hawks on the left side and has $.850 Thousand contract for one year before becoming a RFA and had 4 assists in 33 games this past season for the Oilers. The 3RD pick next year can become a 2RD Pick if the Oilers make it to the Stanley Cup Final and Keith is top 3 in TOI. As for the expansion Edmonton will now be forced to protect Keith and his NMC and should also protect Nurse and Bear while for Chicago Murphy, Zadorov and Jones should all be protected.
Rumours
#1) Sharks looking to move three Players
The Sharks sound like they will try to unload some contracts that don’t have good value and get cheaper players for them. Labanc and Simek are the two main players being looked at to be moved as each have three years on their contract with $4.725 and $2.250 cap hits respectively, while bottom six center Gambrell has also been mentioned to possibly be moving and could look for a expanded role elsewhere.
#2) Voracek could be heading west
Apparently the Flyers have recently informed Voracek that they will leave him exposed in the expansion draft. Voracek has been a great player and leader for the Flyers and if he isn’t taken in the expansion draft then they might try to trade him as he carries a over 8 million dollar cap hit for three more years and can still produce.
#3) Stamkos on the move
Even thought the Lightning are coming off a repeat championship there cap problems are known around the league and now maybe the Captain could be moved. I have heard plenty of News today saying that teams are once again calling about Stamkos future. Stamkos would definitely make the Cap situation better for the Bolts as he has 3 years on his deal at $8.5 Million and if a team needs a top 6 winger or Center than they will call.
#4) Devils looking to trade two D-Men with a year left
With the Devils having only a handful of players signed beyond this season with NHL experience they could be looking at a completely fresh start for their Defence with P.K Subban and Will Butcher being talked about in trade discussions. Subban has $9 Million and Butcher has $3.733 Million left on deals that will expire next year and and team who needs defensive help would look into acquiring them.
#5) Suter and Parise not asked yet
With the deadline for teams to ask their players to waive their NMC’s tomorrow apparently Minnesota hasn’t asked two older veterans to waive. When I made my expansion protection lists I said that they would go 8 skaters and Parise would waive his NMC so Dumba and Greenway would be protected so Minnesota only has a few hours if they are to do that.
