Last minute trades July 17

Seven New trade Alerts

Analysis will be posted as soon as I can for all seven trades and tune in for live posts on July 21st, July 23RD, and July 28th.

#1)

 2021 3RD (#73)

 Jason Dickinson

Analysis: the Canucks acquire Center Dickinson from Dallas for a 3RD pick (#73). Jason Dickinson was going to be exposed in the expansion draft (and was my pick to be selected from Dallas) but will most likely not anymore after being traded. Dickinson can be the 3RD line center for Vancouver next year after having 7 goals and 15 points in 51 games last season and is a pending RFA who I think will sign between $1.5 Million and $3 Million for his next deal. The Canucks should use their sixth Forward protection slot to keep Dickinson. As for Dallas he was not going to be protected so it was a smart move to trade Dickinson and get a third round pick (#73) overall for someone who would have been selected in the expansion draft for nothing.

#2)

 Josef Korenar, 2022 2RD

 Adin Hill,2022 7RD

Analysis: Adin Hill and a 2022 7RD pick were moved from Arizona to San Jose for a 2022 2RD and Josef Korenar. Arizona could only protect one of Kuemper or Hill and with this trade will absolutely protect Kuemper and leave Korenar who they just  acquired exposed. Kuemper should still be traded this offseason but will be with them for now and if Korenar is not selected should have a chance to be backup for Arizona this year, and they get a second round pick next year as they get draft capital for not losing a goalie. As for San Jose Adin Hill will be protected and Jones will be exposed in the expansion draft. Hill can be the goalie of the future for the Sharks and should be goalie 1 for San Jose next year if the Sharks don’t get another goalie and they also get a low end 7RD draft pick.

 #3)

 Jared Mccann

 Filip Hallinder, 2023 7RD

Analysis: Jared McCann has been dealt to the Maple Leafs for prospect Filip Hallander and a 2022 7RD pick. Moving McCann allows Pittsburgh to protect Kapanen, Carter and Blueger with their last 3 spots and gives them something rather than possibly losing him for Nothing. Hallander was acquired by the Leafs in last years Kapanen trade from Pittsburgh so it’s nice to see Hallander back with the Penguins and they also get draft capital with the 2022 7RD Pick. McCann can be a great player for Toronto maybe playing on the 2ND line with Tavares after McCann had 32 Points in 43 regular season games and a assist in 6 Playoff Games, but the timing of the acquisition puzzles me as if they go 7-3-1 then Holl is exposed but if they go the 8 skater route then McCann and Kerfoot are exposed which makes me wonder if they have a side deal in place with the Kraken.

 #4) (three way deal)

 Philippe Myers, Nolan Patrick

 Ryan Ellis

 Nolan Patrick

 Cody Glass

Analysis: the trade of the day as the Predators deal Ryan Ellis to the Flyers for Philippe Myers and Nolan Patrick and then turn right around and deal Patrick to Vegas for Cody Glass. For Philadelphia they get there top pairing right side defender that they have been looking for. Ellis will play top pairing minutes with Provorov next season and brings veteran leadership after he had 18 Points in 35 Regular Season Games and 5 Points in 6 Playoff Games this past season. As for Nashville Philippe Myers will join a very young right side for Nashville as him, Fabbro and Carrier currently make up the right side and 11 points in 44 games this past season and they also get Glass who can be their 3RD or 4TH line center next year after he had 10 points in 27 regular season games and no points in 1 playoff game. And for Vegas they get Nolan Patrick who was selected 2ND overall in 2017 4 selections ahead of Glass. Patrick will help Vegas at Center and should play on the second or third line after he had 9 points in 52 games this season.

#5)

 2022 7RD

Barclay Goodrow (Pending UFA)

Analysis: the New York Rangers have acquired the Signing rights to Barclay Goodrow from Tampa in exchange for a 2022 7RD pick. The Rangers can now sign the Pending UFA to a contract extension before he goes to Free Agency after he was a key part of the Stanley Cup winning Lightning over the Past two Years and had 20 points in 55 regular season games and 6 points in 18 playoff games. As for Tampa they lose I solid player but get a draft pick (2022 7RD) for a pending UFA who they likely would have lost in Free Agency.

#6)

 2022 4RD, Nick Desimone

 Brett Howden

Analysis: the New York Rangers send Brett Howden to the Golden Knights for Nick DeSimone and a 2022 4RD pick. Vegas gets another Center who can help shore up their bottom 6. Howden had 7 Points in 42 Games with the Rangers this season and recently signed a 1 year $.885 Thousand contract and can fill in for Nosek if he leaves via Free Agency. For New York there was a big possibility that Howden was taken in the expansion draft so getting something for him is good. DeSimone is a RFA and would most likely be nothing more than a minor leaguer while the Rangers also get draft capital with the 4RD pick next year that is actually Winnipeg’s that Vegas acquired last year.

 #7)

 Future Considerations

 Andrew Ladd, 2021 2RD (#60), con 2022 2RD, con 2023 3RD

Analysis: The Islanders have suddenly found a way to move Andrew Ladd as he and a 2021 2RD, a conditional 2022 2RD, and a conditional 2023 3RD picks go to Arizona for future consideration. This was not influenced on the expansion draft as Ladd was never going to be protected by NYI and will not be protected by Arizona but moving that cap was a big plus as moving Ladd today and Leddy yesterday saves them about $8.5 Million in cap for the upcoming year. Arizona restocks the cupboard with draft picks, they get the (#60) overall pick at this years draft, a conditional 2022 2RD draft pick as the Condition is the Coyotes will get the higher of the two 2ND picks that the Islanders currently have (they also have Colorado’s 2ND round pick for next year), and they have a conditional 2023 3rd pick which the Coyotes will receive if Ladd plays 1 game in the 2022-23 season. The Coyotes should use Ladd as a bottom 6 veteran presence for the upcoming year after he spent the better part of the last two years in the AHL.
