NHL Game Reviews June 7

 New York I 5 Boston 4 Final

New York was able to hold off the a late Bruins surge to get a win and if they win back at the coliseum in game 6 they win the series. Matthew Barzal (3), Josh Bailey (5), and Jordan Eberle (3) each had a goal and assist, Anthony Beauvillier and Noah Dobson each had two assists, while Brock Nelson (4) and Kyle Palmeri (6) also scored for the Islanders. Kyle Palmeri (3G-2A-5P) and Matthew Barzal (3G-3A-6P) each have a four game point streak. Semyon Varlamov made 40 saves in the win. The Islanders were 3/4 on the power play (Eberle, Bailey, and Barzal each had a PPG), and also had 38 hits and 19 shots. The only lineup change was for Boston as Karson Kuhlman replaced Jake DeBrusk. David Pastrnak had two goals (6 and 7) and a assist, Charlie McAvoy had three assists, Brad Marchand had a goal (6) and a assist, while David Krejci (2) also scored for the Bruins. Brad Marchand has a five game point streak (3G-4A-7P). Tuukka Rask made 12 saves on 16 shots before being replaced by Jeremy Swayman who made 2 saves on 3 shots in his playoff debut. The Bruins were 1/2 on the power play (Pastrnak’s second was on the Power Play), and also had 37 hits and 44 shots. My thoughts: another close and tight contest and another game were the Islanders played there style by holding on for lead and win. The Islanders lead the best of seven series 3-2, Game 6 is Wednesday at 4:30.

Montreal 3 Winnipeg 2 Final/OT

Montreal pulled off the improbable victory by sweeping the Jets and moving on to the semifinals where they will play Vegas or Colorado. Tyler Toffoli had the OT winner (4) and a assist, Nick Suzuki had two assists, while Erik Gustafsson (1) and Autturi Lehkonen (2) also scored for the Canadiens. Tyler Toffoli has a six game point streak (4G-4A-8P). Carey Price made 14 saves in the overtime win. The Canadiens were 1/3 on the power play (Gustafsson had the PPG), and also had 25 hits and 42 shots. The only lineup change was for the Canadiens as Alexander Romanov made his playoff debut replacing injured Jeff Petry. Logan Stanley scored twice (1 and 2), while Kyle Connor had two assists for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 39 saves in the overtime loss. The Jets were 0/1 on the power play, and also had 49 hits and 16 shots. My thoughts: when the second round kicked off I thought the rest would do Winnipeg good but in fact that did them in as the Canadiens who were playing two nights later swept the rested team to move on. Montreal sweeps series 4-0.

My Prediction Winnipeg 4-1
