NHL Game Reviews June 5

Tampa Bay 6 Carolina 4 Final

Tampa Bay scored four unanswered after the Hurricanes scored twice to take a 4-2 lead and with the win push Carolina to the brink. Steven Stamkos (4 and 5) and Nikita Kucherov (4 and 5) each had two goals and a assist, Brayden Point had a goal (7) and a assist, Ondrej Palat has two assists, while Tyler Johnson (1) also scored for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 21 saves in the win. The Lightning were 3/6 on the power play (both Stamkos goals and Kucherov’s first were all on the power play). The only lineup change was for Tampa Bay as a healthy David Savard replaced Luke Schenn. Jacob Slavin has a goal (1) and a assist, Andrei Svechnikov had two assists, while Teavu Teravainen (2), Dougie Hamilton (2), and Jesper Fast (1) also scored for the Hurricanes. Andrei Svechnikov has a four game point streak (1G-4A-5P). Petr Mrazek made 20 saves in the loss. The Hurricanes were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 25 hits and 25 shots. My thoughts: when I put up my Prediction I said the winner of the Bolts power play/Canes penalty kill would win this series and the Bolts were 50% on the power play and are inching towards a series win. Tampa Bay leads best of seven series 3-1, Game 5 Tuesday at 3:30.

Injury report

Carolina

Warren Foegele: returned to the lineup in Game 4 after leaving Game 3 with a UBI.

Vincent Trocheck: missed Game 4 with a LBI.

Tampa Bay

David Savard: played in Game 4 and his first second round game after missing three with a UBI.

New York I 4 Boston 1 Final

New York I pulls of four unanswered goals to defeat the Bruins and tie the series at 2 apiece heading to Boston. Matthew Barzal had a goal (2) and a assist, while Kyle Palmeri (5), Jean Gabriel Pageau (3), and Casey Cizikas (2) also scored for the Islanders. Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves in the win. The Islanders were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 30 hits and 34 shots. The only lineup change was for the Bruins as Jarred Tinordi replaced injured Brandon Carlo. David Krejci (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Bruins. Brad Marchand has a four game point streak (2G-3A-5P). Tuukka Rask made  30 saves in the loss. The Bruins were 1/3 on the power play (Krejci’s goal was a PPG), and also had 27 hits and 29 shots. My thoughts: the Islanders got a spilt at the coliseum and by pushing this series to a 2-2 tie game 6 will be back at the coliseum. Best of seven series tied 2-2, Game 5 Monday at 3:30.
