NHL Game Reviews June 2

 Montreal 5 Winnipeg 3 Final

Montreal was able to solve Connor Hellebuyck something the Oilers could not do once in their series with the Jets. Eric Staal had a goal (1) and a assist, Jeff Petry and Joel Edmundson each had two assists, while Jesper Kotkaniemi (4), Nick Suzuki (3), Brendan Gallagher (2) and Jake Evans (1) also scored for the Canadiens. Corey Perry (2G-2A-4P) and Nick Suzuki (2G-2A-4P) each have a four game point streak. Carey Price made 27 saves in the win. The Canadiens were 1/4 on the power play  (Gallagher had the PPG), and also had 24 hits and 33 shots. The only lineup change was for Winnipeg as Dominic Toninato replaced Paul Stastny. Adam Lowry (1), Derek Forbort (1), and Kyle Connor (3) all scored for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves in the loss.  The Jets were 0/3 on the power play, and also Had 42 hits and 30 shots. My thoughts: the Jets were a step behind Montreal from the start and were sort of rusty after not playing for a week but they will need to shake of the rust before Game 2. Montreal leads the best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Friday at 4:30.

Injury report

Winnipeg

Paul Stastny: missed Game 1 with a undisclosed injury.

Dylan Demelo: left Game 1 in the second period with a LBI.

Autturi Lehkonen: missed Game 1 due to a LBI.

Jake Evans: left Game 1 with a concussion and was stretchered off the ice and is out indefinitely.

Colorado 3 Vegas 2 Final/OT

Colorado is able to escape with a win thanks to some help from Grubauer and Rantanen. Sam Girard has two assists, while Brandon Saad (5), Tyson Jost (2), and Mikko Rantanen (3) who had the overtime winner all scored for the Avalanche. Mikko Rantanen has a eight game point streak (3G-12A-15P) and Brandon Saad has a five game point streak (5G-0A-5P). Philipp Grubauer made 39 saves in the win. The Avalanche were 2/6 on the power play (Jost and Rantanen who had the OT winner both had PPG), and also had 22 hits and 25 shots. The Golden Knights had the only lineup change as Keegan Kolesar and Dylan Sikura replaced Ryan Reaves who is suspended and Matias Janmark who is injured. Shea Theodore had two assists, while Alec Martinez (2) and Riley Smith (2) both scored for the Golden Knights. Max Pacioretty has a four game point streak (1G-3A-4P). Marc Andre Fleury made 22 saves in the loss. The Golden Knights were 1/3 on the power play (Martinez had the PPG), and also had 21 hits and 41 shots. My thoughts: this is a game in which Vegas should have had and need to have but Grubauer stole the game and maybe the series for the Avalanche. Colorado leads the best of seven series 2-0, Game 3 Friday at 7:00.
