NHL Game Reviews June 15 and 16

Tampa Bay 4 New York I 2 Final

Tampa Bay scores three consecutive goals and had a massive win as they even up the series heading to New York. Nikita Kucherov has three assists, Victor Hedman has a goal (1) and assist, while Brayden Point (10), Ondrej Palat (3), and Jan Rutta (1) also scored for the Lightning. Brayden Point (5G-2A-7P) and Nikita Kucherov (2G-8A-10P) each have a five game point streak. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 24 saves in the win. The Lightning were 1/5 on the power play (Hedman had the PPG), and also had 32 hits and 33 shots. Neither team had any lineup changes. Brock Nelson (7) and Matthew Barzal (5) both scored for the Islanders. Semyon Varlamov made 23 saves in the loss and Ilya Sorokin made 6 saves in the last eight minutes of the 1st after Varlamov went down. The Islanders were 1/4 on the power play (Nelson had the PPG), and also had 37 hits and 26 shots. My thoughts: Tampa did what they needed to and that is find ways to score against the Islanders, and now the Islanders have to get back to their game 1 plan to beat Tampa. The best of seven series is tied 1-1, Game 3 Thursday at 5:00.

Montreal 3 Vegas 2 Final

Montreal gets back to even terms as the Canadiens get a lead and hold off the Golden Knights to even the series. Joel Edmundson has two assists, while Joel Armia (5), Tyler Toffoli (5), and Paul Byron (2), also scored for the Canadiens. Tyler Toffoli has a eight game point streak (5G-5A-10P), while Cole Caufield has a four game point streak (1G-3A-4P). Carey Price made 29 saves in the win. The Canadiens did not have a power play, while also having 53 hits and 23 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Montreal healthy D-Men Jon Merrill and Jeff Petry replaces Alex Romanov and Brett Kulak while for Vegas Patrick Brown replaced injured Chandler Stephenson. Alex Pietrangelo scored both goals (2 and 3) for the Golden Knights. William Karlsson has a six game point streak (2G-6A-8P). Marc Andre Fleury made 20 saves in the loss. The Golden Knights were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 45 hits and 31 shots. My thoughts: Vegas almost completed the comeback but fell short and should try to get the first goal next game. Best of seven series is tied 1-1, Game 3 Friday 5:00.
