Because their are now the Final four I will be posting game reviews when each side has finished a game (for example I posted today after both semifinal game one’s were finished).
New York I 2 Tampa Bay 1 Final
The Islanders were able to get the lead and clamp shut as they held on for a game 1 win. Matthew Barzal (4) and Ryan Pulock (4) both scored for the Islanders. Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves in the win. The Islanders were 0/3 on the power play, and also had 40 hits and 31 shots. Neither team had any lineup changes. Brayden Point (9) was the lone goal scorer for the Lightning. Alex Killorn has a five game point streak (2G-3A-5P), while Nikita Kucherov (2G-5A-7P) and Brayden Point (4G-2A-6P) each have a four game point streak. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves in the loss. The Lightning were 1/2 on the power play (Points goal was on the power play), and also had 41 hits and 31 shots. My thoughts: it was the style of game that the Islanders were always accustomed to playing grab a lead and shut the game down and Tampa will have to have a quicker start and score more often in game 2. The Islanders lead the best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Tuesday at 5:00.
Vegas 4 Montreal 1 Final
The Golden Knights came out grabbed a lead and had three defensemen score and had Fleury play spectacularly as Vegas won Game 1. Shea Theodore had a goal (1) and assist, Riley Smith had two assists, while Matias Janmark (4), Alec Martinez (3), and Nick Holden (2) also scored for the Golden Knights. William Karlsson has a five game point streak (2G-5A-7P). Marc Andre Fleury made 28 saves in the win. The Golden Knights were 0/4 on the power play, and also had 44 hits and 30 shots. Neither team had any lineup changes. Cole Caufield (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Canadiens. Tyler Toffoli has a seven game point streak (4G-5A-9P). Carey Price made 26 saves in the loss. The Canadiens were 1/3 on the power play (Caufield’s goal was on the power play), and also had 52 hits and 29 shots. My thoughts Vegas played their hard physical game and had a lot of production from their defense 3 goals and 6 points and Montreal will have to play quicker and figure out Fleury in Game 2. Vegas leads the best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Wednesday at 6:00.
