First Round

Montreal 3 Toronto 2 Final/OT

Montreal stunned Toronto with yet another  overtime victory sending this series to a game 7. Tyler Toffoli had a goal (1) and a assist, while Corey Perry (1) and Jesper Kotkaniemi (3) also scored for the Canadiens. Carey Price made 41 saves in the win. The Canadiens were 2/4 on the power play (Toffoli and Perry each had a PPG), and also had 44 hits and 31 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Toronto Nick Foligno and Travis Dermott replaced Adam Brooks and Rasmus Sandin and for Montreal Jake Evans and Brett Kulak replaced Tomas Tatar and Jon Merrill. Jason Spezza (3) and T.J Brodie (1) both scored for the Maple Leafs. Jack Campbell made 28 saves in the overtime loss. Maple Leafs were 0/4 on the power play, and also 27 hits and 43 shots. My thoughts: I was expecting the Maple Leafs to rake care of the Canadiens early in the series but having them come back in from down 3-1 gives the Canadiens momentum heading into game 7. Best of seven series tied 3-3, Game 7 is Monday at 4:00.

Second Round

Boston 5 New York I 2 Final

The Bruins on the back of David Pastrnak’s hat trick beat the Islanders in game 1 of the second round. David Pasrnak has a Hat Trick (3,4 and 5), David Krejci had three assists, Patrice Bergeron had two assists, while Taylor Hall (3) and Charlie McAvoy (1) also scored for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask made 20 saves in the win. The Bruins were 2/2 on the power play (Hall and Pastrnak’s first were PPG’s), and also had 42 hits and 40 shots. The only lineup change was for Boston as a healthy Jeremy Lauzon replaced Jarred Tinordi. Jordan Eberle has two assists, while Anthony Beauvillier (4) and Adam Pelech (1) both scored for the Islanders. Anthony Beauvillier has a five game point streak (4G-3A-7P). Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves in his first playoff loss.  The Islanders were 1/3 on the power play (Beauvillier had the PPG), and also had 49 hits and 22 shots. My thoughts: Boston was able to solve Sorokin and that was something Pittsburgh didn’t do well while the Islanders could not contain Boston’s Top line which was the Capitals problem. Boston leads the best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 is Monday at 4:30.
