 New York I 5 Pittsburgh 3 Final

New York I showed good resiliency in winning three consecutive games after falling behind in the series and thanks to Sorokin the Islanders get to round two. Brock Nelson had two goals (2 and 3) and a assist, Anthony Beauvillier had a goal (3) and two assists, Jean Gabriel Pageau and Josh Bailey each had two assists, while Kyle Palmeri (3) and Ryan Pulock (2) also scored for the Islanders. Anthony Beauvillier has a four game point streak (3G-3A-6P). Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves in the win. The Islanders were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 30 hits and 24 shots. The only lineup change was for the Islanders as Travis Zajac made his series debut replacing a injured Oliver Wahlstrom. Jason Zucker had a goal (2) and a assist, Evgeni Malkin had two assists, while Jeff Carter (4) and Jake Guentzel (1) also scored for the Penguins. Tristan Jarry made 19 saves in the loss. The Penguins were 1/2 on the power play (Guentzel had the PPG), and also had 31 hits and 37 shots. My thoughts: I thought that the Penguins could get back to the second round and have a chance for another cup but it is New York I who will try to reach the Final Four for a second consecutive year. New York I wins series 4-2.

Tampa Bay 4 Florida 0 Final

Tampa Bay has shown why they were able to win the cup last year as they have been able to beat their arch rival Panthers in six games and moved on to the second round. Steven Stamkos has a goal (3) and a assist, Erik Cernak and Nikita Kucherov each had two assists, while Brayden Point (4), Alex Killorn (4) and Patrick Maroon (1) also scored for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves in the shutout and win. The Lightning were 1/3 on the power play (Stamkos had the PPG), and also had 32 hits and 24 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Tampa Bay a healthy Barclay Goodrow replaced Luke Schenn and for Florida Markus Nutivaara replaced Keith Yandle. Florida was shutout in a playoff game for the first time since Game 4 of the first round in 2012. Alex Barkov’s nine game point streak and Sam Bennett’s ten game point streak ended. Spencer Knight made 20 saves in the loss. The Panthers were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 27 hits and 29 shots. My thoughts: when the series started I thought for sure that the Panthers would have a chance but given the fact that they are a team who doesn’t make the playoffs often a learning experience might turn out to be good for them. Tampa Bay wins series 4-2.

My Prediction Florida 4-3

Minnesota 3 Vegas 0 Final

Minnesota has won back to back games and has pushed the series to the limit as a winner take all Game 7 will play on Friday. Kevin Fiala has a goal (1) and assist, Jared Spurgeon has two assists, while Ryan Hartman (2) and Nick Bjugstad (1) also scored for the Wild. Cam Talbot made 23 saves in the win. The Wild were 1/1 on the power play (Fiala had the PPG), and also had 25 hits and 24 shots. The Golden Knights had two lineup changes as Ryan Reaves and Brayden McNabb who were placed on the COVID list were replaced by Cody Glass who made his series debut and Nick Hague. The Golden Knights were shutout for the second time this postseason the other being Game 1. Marc Andre Fleury made 21 saves in the loss. The Golden Knights were 0/1 on the power play, and also had 18 hits and 23 shots. My thoughts: to many familiar thoughts are entering my mind on Vegas as for the last two years (In 2019 against San Jose and in 2020 vs Vancouver) Vegas held a 3-1 series lead only to lose game 5 and 6 in 2019 they lost and in 2020 they escaped with the Game 7 victory. Best of seven series tied 3-3, Game 7 Friday at 6:00.
