Vancouver was able to beat the Flames after a good start and are now heading into the last game of the season with a possibility of not finishing last in the division. Tyler Myers (6), Travis Hamonic (3), and Brock Boeser (23) each had a goal and assist, while Nils Hoglander (13) also scored for the Canucks. Brock Boeser has a four game point streak (3G-3A-6P). Each team had lineup changes for Calgary Joakim Nordstrom and Nikita Nesterov replaced Josh Leivo and Jusso Valimaki while for Vancouver William Lockwood who made his NHL debut, Marc Michaelis, Jack Rathbone, and Tyler Myers replaces Jonah Gadjovich, Zach Macewen, Olli Joulevi, and Jalen Chatfield. Andrew Mangiapane (17) and Matthew Tkachuk (14) each scored for the Flames. Matthew Tkachuk (4G-3A-7P), Johnny Gaudreau (1G-7A-8P), and Andrew Mangiapane (4G-1A-5P) each have a four game point streak. Louis Domingue made 20 saves in his first start of the season. Playoffs
Pittsburgh 2 New York I 1 Final
Pittsburgh was able to level the series thanks to scoring in the first from Rust and Carter and after getting those two goals Tristan Jarry shut the door on a game tiring goal as the series is tied going to New York. Brian Rust (1) and Jeff Carter (1) both scored for the Penguins. Fredric Gaudreau had his four game point streak end but Jeff Carter now has a four game point streak (6G-1A-7P). Tristan Jarry made 37 saves in the win. The Penguins were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 37 hits and 45 shots. Tb only lineup change was for New York I as Semyon Varlamov was now healthy and started moving Ilya Sorokin to the backup. Josh Bailey (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Islanders. Anthony Beauvillier’s eight game point streak ended. Semyon Varlamov made 43 saves in the loss. The Islanders were 0/1 on the power play, and also had 46 hits and 38 shots. My thoughts: this is Pittsburgh winning the Islanders type of game. Pittsburgh scores twice in the first and then gave up one in the second but didn’t score again instead they weathered the storm and held for a win and this was the Penguins team I pegged to win the series. Best of 7 series tied 1-1, Game 3 Thursday 4:00
Tampa Bay 3 Florida 1 Final
Tampa Bay was able to hold off the Panthers in Chris Driedger first NHL playoff start as Tampa Bay now leads the series 2-0. Ondrej Palat (1) has a goal and assist, while Steve Stamkos (1) and Yanni Gourde (1) also scored for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves in the win. Tampa Bay was 0/3 on the power play, and also had 42 hits and 29 shots. Florida had two lineup changes as Chris Driedger replaced Sergei Bobrovsky as the starter and Anton Stralman replaced Sam Bennett who was suspended for the Game and for Tampa Luke Schenn replaced Mathieu Joseph. Mason Marchment (1) scores his first NHL playoff goal and was the lone goal scorer for Florida. Alex Barkov has a six game point streak (3G-6A-9P). Chris Driedger made 26 saves in his first NHL playoff start and loss. The Panthers were 0/3 on the power play, and also had 37 hits and 33 shots. My thoughts: I honestly thought that Florida offensive attack would over power Tampa Bay but I was wrong and now Tampa Bay goes Home with a chance to sweep the series with two home victory’s. Tampa Bay leads best of seven series 2-0, Game 3 is Thursday at 3:30.
Vegas 3 Minnesota 1 Final
Vegas knew that they needed a victory over Minnesota to have any chance at winning the series as they have never in their four year history won in regulation over Minnesota in Minnesota but they were able to even the series. Alex Tuch scored twice (1 and 2), while Jonathan Marchessault (1) also scored for the Golden Knights. Marc Andre Fleury made 34 saves in the win. Vegas was 1/2 on the power play (Tuch’s second was the PPG), and also had 63 hits and 28 shots. Neither team made any changes to their lineup. Matt Dumba (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Wild. Cam Talbot made 25 saves in the loss. Minnesota was 0/1 on the power play, and also had 46 hits and 35 shots. My thoughts: Vegas needed this game and I knew that they would get it a predicted that this would be a high scoring series but in both games it was a battle of the goaltenders and I did say this series would go the distance and I still think it will. Best of seven series tied 1-1, Game 3 is Thursday at 6:30.
