Playoff opener
Washington 3 Boston 2 Final/OT
In what was a very close and tightly contested game the Washington Capitals recovers from losing Vitek Vanacek to injury to beat the Bruins in overtime on Nic Dowd’s first NHL OT playoff goal. Tom Wilson has a goal (1) and a assist, T.J Oshie had two assists, while Nic Dowd (1) the overtime winner and Brandon Dillon (1) also scored for the Capitals. Vitek Vanacek made 3 saves on 4 shots before being injured as Craig Anderson made 21 saves on 22 shots in relief and the win. Washington was 0/1 on the power play, they also had 51 hits and 32 shots in the win. Vitek Vanecek, Daniel Sprong, Anthony Mantha, and Mike Reilly each played in their first NHL playoff game. Nick Ritchie (1) and Jake DeBrusk (1) both scored for the Bruins. David Pastrnak has a five game point streak (1G-5A-6P). Tuukka Rask made 29 saves in the loss. Boston was 1/4 on the power play (Nick Ritchie had the PPG), they also had 41 hits and 26 shots in the loss. My thoughts: I expected this to be a tight series and this game was no different but the fact that Washington recovers after Vanecek went down was amazing and one of the reasons why I picked Washington to win the series. Washington leads the best of 7 series 1-0, Game 2 on Monday at 4:30.
