NHL Game Reviews APR 15th

 I’m sorry everyone for taking so long to pick myself up after the trade deadline I am now going to go back to my regular schedule with the Game Reviews and Injury updates. 




Buffalo 5 Washington 2 Final 

Buffalo pulls of a major upset in their victory. Anders Bjork scores his first as a Sabre (3) and added a assist, Dylan Cozens had two assists, while Victor Olofsson (12), Casey Mittlestadt (7), Sam Reinhart (15), and Tage Thompson (5) each scored for Buffalo. Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves in his third game played in the last four games. Buffalo has a three game point streak. The only lineup change was for Buffalo as Tobias Reider replaced Riley Sheahan. Anthony Mantha (13) and Dmitry Orlov (6) each scored for Washington. While Alex Ovechkin’s four game point streak ended T.J Oshie extended his point streak to five games (3G-5A-8P). Vitek Vanacek stoped 17 of 21 shots before being replaced by Craig Anderson who made 8 saves in relief. Washington’s three game winning streak ended.

Philadelphia 2 Pittsburgh 1 Final/SO

Philadelphia gets a much needed win vs their Pennsylvania rivals. Jacob Voracek (8) scored in regulation while Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux each scored in the shootout. Carter Hart made 31 saves in his fourth start in the last six games. Philadelphia has a point in five of their last eight games. Each team had lineup changes for Philadelphia Wade Allison who made his NHL debut and Philippe Myers replaced Sam Morin and Nicolas Aube Kubel while Pittsburgh replaced Radim Zohorna with Jeff Carter who made his Penguins debut. Sidney Crosby (17) was the lone goal scorer for Pittsburgh. Jake Guentzel’s six game point streak ended but Brian Dumoulin extends his point streak to six games (2G-4A-6P). Tristan Jarry made 26 saves in his fourth start in the last five games. Pittsburgh has a four game point streak. 

Pittsburgh is 3rd in the East 27-13-3 record, 57 points, 9 points above the playoff line, 43 games played.

New York R 4 New Jersey 0 Final 

New York R keeps up in the playoff race with the win. Artemi Panarin scored twice (14 and 15) and a assist, Colin Blackwell had three assists, Ryan Strome had two assists, while Jacob Trouba (2) and Ryan Lindgren (1) each scored for New York. Mika Zibanejad has a four game point streak (2G-2A-4P). Igor Shsterkin made 16 saves for his second consecutive shutout. The Rangers have a four game point streak. The only lineup change was for New Jersey as Marian Studenic replaced Jesper Bratt. New Jersey has been shutout in two straight games and have not scored in 132:30. Mackenzie Blackwood made 29 saves in his fourth consecutive start. New Jersey is on a four game losing streak.

Boston 4 New York I 1 Final 

Boston keeps ahead of the Rangers and Flyers with a big win. Brad Marchand scored twice (20 and 21), David Pasternak had two assists, while Craig Smith (10) and Taylor Hall (3) who scored his first goal with Boston each scored for Boston. Craig Smith has a six game point streak (4G-5A-9P). Tuukka Rask made 22 saves in his first start since Mar 25. Boston has won five of their last eight games. The only lineup change was for Boston as Jacob Zboril and Steven Kampfer replaced Jared Tinordi and Kevin Miller. Travis Zajac (8) who scored his first as a Islanders was the lone goal scorer. Semyon Varlamov made 41 saves in his third start in the last five games. The  Islanders have lost two of their last three games.

New York I is 2nd in the East 27-12-4 record, 58 points, 10 points above the playoff line, 43 games played.

Winnipeg 5 Toronto 2 Final

Winnipeg gets closer to top spot in the North with a win. Kyle Connor had two goals (20 and 21) and a assist, Marc Scheifele had a goal (17) and two assists, Nikolai Ehlers scored twice (19 and 20), while Neal Pionk had two assists for Winnipeg. Marc Scheifele (2G-6A-8P) and Nikolai Ehlers (5G-4A-9P) each have a six game point streak. Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves in his seventh start in the last eight games. Winnipeg has won five of their last six games. Each team had lineup changes for Toronto Jason Spezza and Adam Brooks replaced Auston Matthews and Scott Sabourin and for Winnipeg Ville Heinola replaced Logan Stanley. John Tavares has a goal (17) and assist, while Alex Galchenyuk (2) also scored. John Tavares has a four game point streak (2G-4A-6P). Jack Campbell allowed three goals on six shots before being pulled for David Rittich who made 16 saves in relief. Toronto is on a three game losing streak.

Tampa Bay 3 Florida 2 Final/OT

Tampa Bay gets a point lead on Florida for first place in the Central with the win. Alex Killorn had a goal and assist, while Ross Colton (8) and Victor Hedman (8) also scored for Tampa Bay. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 36 saves in his sixth start in the last eight games. Tampa Bay has won three of their last four games. Each team had lineup changes Tampa Bay Alex BarrĂ©-Boulet replaced Mitchell Stephens while Florida replaced Eetu Loustarinen, Ryan Lomberg, and Anton Stralman with Nikita Gusev, Lucas Wallmark, and Brandon Montour all of witch we’re making there Panthers debut. Marcus Nutivaara has two assists, while Anthony Duclair (5) and Patrick Hornqvist (13) each scored for Florida. Anthony Duclair has a four game point streak (2G-2A-4P). 

Chris Driedger made 16 saves in his fifth start in the last eight games. Florida has lost four of their last five games.

Carolina 4 Nashville 1 Final

Carolina remains tied for top spot in the Central after the win. Vincent Trocheck (17) and Andrei Svechnikov (11) each had a goal and assist, while Warren Foegele (9) and Sebastian Aho (18) also scored for Carolina. Nino Niederreiter has a four game point streak (1G-3A-4P). Petr Mrazek made 19 saves in his fourth start in the last six games. Carolina has a point in five of their last six games. The only lineup change was for Carolina as Jani Hakanpaa replaced Jake Gardiner. Eric Haula (5) was the only goal scorer for Nashville. Jusse Saros made 25 saves in his seventh start in the last eight games. Nashville has only lost three times in the last eight games.

Detroit 4 Chicago 1 Final 

Detroit gets a upset over the rival Blackhawks. Troy Stecher scored twice (2 and 3), Marc Staal had two assists, while Michael Rasmussen (3) and Jacob Vrana (12) who scored in his Red Wings debut each scored for Detroit. Adam Erne has a eight game point streak (5G-3A-8P). Thomas Griess made 24 saves in his sixth start in the last eight games. Detroit is on a three game winning streak. Each team had lineup changes for Chicago Calvin De Haan and Adam Boqvist we’re replaced by Ian Mitchell and Nikita Zadorov while Detroit replaced Givani Smith, Frans Nielsen, and Evgeny Svechnikov with Richard Panik and Jacob Vrana who made their Detroit debut along with Vladsilav Namestnikov. Duncan Keith (3) was the lone goal scorer for Chicago. Kevin Lankinen made 24 saves in his eighth consecutive start. Chicago has lost four of their last seven games.

Detroit is 8th in the Central 16-23-6 record, 38 points, 11 points back of a playoff spot, 45 games played.



Dallas 4 Columbus 1 Final 

Dallas gets a big win vs Columbus. Dennis Gurianov has two goals (7 and 8) and a assist, while Joe Pavelski (17) and Miro Heiskanen (7) also scored for Dallas. Roope Hintz has a four game point streak (2G-7A-9P). Jake Oettinger made 17 saves in his first start since Apr 6. Dallas is on a five game point streak. Each team had lineup changes for Dallas Roope Hintz replaced Mark Pysyk and for Columbus Joshua Dunne who made his NHL debut and Andrew Peeke replaced Kevin Stenlund and Mikko Lehtonen. Jack Roslovic (9) was the lone goal scorer for Columbus. Elvis Merzlikins made 27 saves in his third start in the last four games. Columbus is on a four game losing streak.
