Live Updates on NHL trade deadline day APRIL 12

 Monday trade deadline

          Calgary                            Florida

    Emil Heineman                 Sam Bennett

2022 2RD pick (FLO)     2022 6RD pick (CAL)

Analysis: Bennett make the Panthers a great team. Sam Bennett who has wanted out of Calgary for awhile gets his wish moving to Florida where he will be used I would think on the 2nd line. He has (4G-8A-12P) in 38 games played and caries a ($2.55 Million contract and is a pending RFA). Florida also gets draft capital with the 2022 6RD pick. In return Calgary gets Emil Heineman who was Florida’s 2ND round pick in 2020 has not signed an NHL contract and should be contributing in two to three years. Meanwhile Calgary also got a 2ND round pick to use next year for Bennett.

   Washington                Detroit

Anthony Mantha       Jacob Vrana

                                   Richard Panik

                                  2021 1RD pick (WAS)

                                  2022 2RD pick (WAS)

Analysis: Mantha being moved did not catch me by surprise what did was Vrana and a 1st coming to Detroit. Mantha is a dream forward and will be used most likely in the top six on the Right side for Washington. He has (11G-10A-21P) in 42 games played and caries a ($5.7 Million contract and has 3 Years Left). Meanwhile Detroit got a haul first Jacob Vrana who will be a top 6 forward for Detroit and he has (11G-14A-25P) in 39 games played and caries a ($3.35 Million contract and is a pending RFA). Rica are Panik will have a more prominent role in Detroit than in Washington and should be a middle 6 Forward. He has (3G-6A-9P) in 36 games played and caries a ($2.75 Million contract and has 2 Years Left). Detroit also got two great picks the 2021 1RD in this year draft and the 2022 2RD in next year’s draft.

       Nashville                 Ottawa

Erik Gudbranson     Brandon Fortuano

                                 2023 7RD pick (NAS)

Analysis: Nashville gets some scoring depth for their playoff run in this deal. Gudbranson on most teams would be a 3RD pair defenceman but with injuries I could see Gudbranson being on the 2ND pair. He has (1G-2A-3P) in 36 games played and caries a ($4 Million contract and is a pending UFA. As for Ottawa they got Brandon Fortuano who is in his first AHL season and is in the last year of his contract and a pending RFA. Ottawa also got a draft pick in the 2023 7RD

       Chicago              Vancouver

2021 4RD (VAN)    Madison Bowey

                                 2021 5RD (CHI)

Analysis: Vancouver gets a D-Men who can fill in this year. Vancouver got Madison Bowey who with their COVID list will be a top 6 or top 4 D-Men with the Canucks. He has (0G-1A-1P) in 2 games played and caries a ($.725 Thousand contract and is a pending UFA). They also got a middle pick from Chicago in the 2021 5RD and Chicago hit a round better pick in return 2021 4RD.

    San Jose              Toronto

Alex Barbanov    Annti Soumela

Analysis:  this is a swap of depth fowards. Annti Soumela is playing less in San Jose then recent years and is going to be a spare forward for Toronto. He has (0G-0A-0P) and caries a  ($.700 Thousand and is a pending UFA). As for San Jose Barbanov I foresee him playing in the bottom six for the Sharks. He has (0G-1A-1P) in 13 games played and caries a ($.925 Thousand and is a pending UFA).

        Carolina                     Anaheim

   Jani Hakanpaa           Hayden Fleury

2022 6RD pick (ANA)

Analysis: the Ducks get a good young D-Men. Hayden Fleury will be on the 2ND or 3RD D-Pair for years for Anaheim has a very good pickup. He has (1G-0A-1P) in 35 games played and caries a ($1.3 Million contract and has 1 Year Left). The Canes get Hakanpaa who has (0G-1A-1P) in 42 games played and caries a ($.750 Thousand contract and is a pending UFA) and Carolina also got a pick in next years draft in the 2022 6RD pick.

    Toronto                     Anaheim

Ben Hutton             2022 5RD (TOR)

Analysis: the Leafs get some more depth in this trade. Ben Hutton will just be a depth D-Men and only play if there is an injury. He Has (1G-4A-5P) in 34 games played and caries a ($.950 Thousand contract and is a pending UFA). Anaheim gets erect capital from a pending UFA in the 2022 5RD pick.

                 Montreal                                   Philadelphia

Erik Gustafsson (50% retained)       2022 7RD pick (ST.L)

Analysis: Montreal gets even more help on the backend with this deal. Erik Gustafsson is a good D-Men and should help fill the void left by Ben Chiarot’s injury. He has (1G-9A-10P) in 24 games played and caries a ($1.5 Million contract 50% retained in trade and is a pending UFA). Philadelphia gets draft capital with the trade in the 2022 7RD pick.

  Winnipeg                     Vancouver

Jordie Benn                 2021 6RD (WIN)

Analysis: the Jets get a defenceman for their playoff push. Benn will most likely play on their 3RD D-Pair on the Defense. Benn has (1G-8A-9P) in 31 games played and caries a ($2 Million contract and is a pending UFA). Vancouver gets draft capital in the 6RD pick for this year.

Washington                                   Philadelphia

Michael Raffl (25% retained)      2021 5RD pick (VGK)

Analysis: Raffl is a good value pickup for the Caps. Raffl will be most likely a checking forward in the 4TH line for the Caps. Raffl has (3G-5A-8P) in 34 games played and caries a ($1.2 Million contract 25% retained in trade and is a pending UFA). Philadelphia gets more draft picks for pending UFA’s with the 5RD pick this year.

2 Key Players locked up long term

Scott Laughton signed a 5 Year deal worth a average of  $3 Million dollars and should continue being a 3RD line force, and Alex Iafallo was signed to a 4 Year deal worth $4 Million Dollars each year and should continue being a great top 6 forward for LA. These two were prime trade Candidates but they stayed put.

     Colorado                       Chicago

Carl Soderberg             Josh Dickinson

                           Ryder Rolston (Signing Rights)

Analysis: Soderberg is heading back to Colorado. The Avalanche got Soderberg back as he played with the team from 2015-19 and will most likely play in a bottom six role on the Avalanche. He has (7G-8A-15P) in 34 games played and caries a ($1 Million contract and is a pending UFA). As for Chicago they get two prospects in the deal. Josh Dickinson has never played in a NHL game and is in the last year of his entry level deal and will be an RFA. Rolston was a 2020 5th round pick and has never signed an NHL contract.

                Vegas                                        Chicago                San Jose

Mattias Janmark (75% retained)    2021 2RD pick (VGK)  2022 5RD (BUF)

          2022 3RD pick (CHI)           2022 5RD pick (VGK)

           Nick Desimone

Analysis: Vegas gets one of the top rentals in this trade. Mattias Janmark would make a good 3RD line center on Vegas and could play with Tuch on that 3RD line. He has (10G-9A-19P) in 41 games played and caries a ($.563 Thousand 75% retained in trade and is a pending UFA). Nick Desimone who has never played in the NHL moves to Vegas and will be a depth D-Men. Vegas also got a 3RD draft pick for next years draft in the Deal. Chicago gets 2 picks in the deal a great 2RD pick this year as well as a 5RD pick next year. San Jose is a salary retainer for a 2ND straight day and get a 2022 5RD pick for there trouble’s.

    Tampa Bay                       San Jose

Fredrik Claesson     Magnus Chrona (Signing Rights)

Analysis: a minor trade here to discuss. Fredrik Claesson is strictly a depth move and should only play if there is a injury. He has (0G-0A-0P) in 4 games played and caries a ($.700 Thousand contract and is a pending UFA). As for Magnus Chorna he was a 2018 5RD pick and has not signed a NHL contract.

   Edmonton                 New Jersey

Dmitry Kulikov           Con 2022  4RD

Analysis: the Oilers get depth at Defense with this move. Kulikov will shore up the depth on the Oilers blue line and will have a chance to play and he has (0G-2A-2P) in 38 games played and caries a ($1.15 Million contract and is a pending UFA). New Jersey gets a conditional pick for a pending UFA and the condition is If Edmonton wins a playoff round it upgrades to a 3RD in 2022.

     Chicago                          Vancouver

Adam Gaudette           Matthew Highmore

Analysis: Chicago acquires a good depth player from Vancouver. Adam Gaudette has a break out year last year but faltered this season which led to this trade. He will be a bottom 6 Forward possibly a 4TH line Center for the Blackhawks and has (4G-3A-7P) in 33 games played and caries a ($.950 Thousand contract and is a pending RFA). As for Vancouver they get Matthew Highmore who has been in and out of the Blackhawks lineup and and will probably be a 4th line winger for Vancouver as he has (0G-2A-2P) in 24 games played and caries a ($.725 Thousand contract and has 1 Year Left).

Waiver news

Sami Vatanen: has been claimed off waivers by Dallas and should fit in there top 6.

Victor Mete: has been claimed by Ottawa off of waivers will probably a top 4 D-Men in Ottawa

Cleared Waivers

Josh Healey  Nashville

Cody Goloubef Ottawa

Alex Biega Detroit

Danny Dekeyser Detroit

      Boston                         Buffalo

Taylor Hall (50% retained)    Anders Bjork

           Curtis Lazar                2021 2RD pick

Analysis: the Bruins get the biggest forward at this deadline with the acquisition of Hall. Taylor Hall’s production went down but is still a good top 6 player and I see him playing with Krejci on the second line. He has (2G-17A-19P) in 37 games played and caries a ($4 Million 50% retained in trade UFA). Curtis Lazar is a strong depth option and should fight for a spot on the 4th line. He has (5G-4A-9P) in 33 games played and caries a ($.800 Thousand UFA). As for Buffalo they don’t get their 1RD pick but getting a second is pretty good and Anders Bjork who never found he’s footing will get plenty of opportunity and most likely will be a top 6 forward. He has (2G-3A-5P) in 30 games played and caries a ($1.6 Million contract and has 2 Years Left).

Los Angeles                     Pittsburgh

Con 2022 3RD (PIT)      Jeff Carter (50% retained)

Con 2023 4TH (PIT)

Analysis: Pittsburgh gets long time King Jeff Carter for scoring depth. I see Carter playing 2ND or 3RD line center until Malkin is back from injury and then a I would move him to the wing. Carter has (8G-11A-19P) and caries a ($2.64 Million contract and has 2 years left). Los Angeles gets Cap Space and 2 conditional picks. The 2022 3RD pick will go to a 2RD pick if the Penguins reach the stanley cup final and Carter plays in 50% of Pittsburgh’s games while the 2nd conditional pick is the 2023 4RD pick will upgrade to a 3RD pick if Carter plays in at least 50% of Pittsburgh’s playoff games.
