Trade Alerts
Toronto Columbus San Jose
Nick Foligno (75% retained) 2021 1RD 2021 4RD
Stefan Noesen 2022 4RD
Analysis: this trade is almost identical to the Tampa bay acquiring David Savard. Part 1 [Columbus deals Nick Foligno to San Jose with 50% retained salary for Stefan Noesen]. Part 2 [Toronto Acquires Nick Foligno from San Jose who also eats 50% of Foligno’s contract for a 4RD pick]. And Part 3 [Columbus acquires a 2021 1RD pick and 2022 4RD pick for Stefan Noesen]. For Toronto they get their forward in Nick Foligno. Long time Jacket Foligno should find a home in Toronto’s middle six and could possibly try on the top line. He has (7G-9A-16P) in 42 games played and caries a ($1.38 Million 75% retained in trades UFA). Stefan Noesen should be a depth option in case someone is injured. He has (0G-0A-0P) in 5 games played and caries a ($.925 Thousand UFA). San Jose plays third party broker after retaining 25% of Foligno’s contract and get draft capital for there efforts with the 2021 4RD pick. Over the last two days Columbus has traded pending UFA’s Nick Foligno and David Savard for two 2021 1RD picks a 2022 3RD pick and a 2022 4RD pick.
Boston Ottawa
Mike Reilly 2022 3RD pick (BOS)
Analysis: Boston gets a defender that they very much need right now. Mike Reilly was one of the best D-Men on the Sens blue line this year and is a important pick up for Boston as Reilly would most likely be a 6th or 7th Defensemen but because of several bruins injured he could get a loo as a top 4 D-Men. He has (0G-19A-19P) in 40 games played and caries a ($1.5 Million UFA). As for Ottawa including the Coburn deal they have traded 2 pending UFA D-Men for a 3RD and 7TH round pick in the 2022 draft.
New York I Ottawa
Brayden Coburn 2022 7RD pick (NYI)
Analysis: the Islanders get a depth D-Men for the playoffs. The Islanders get pending UFA from Ottawa as Covurn will most likely be a depth D-Men that comes in if they have injuries. He has (0G-2A-2P) in 16 games played and caries a ($1.7 Million UFA). Ottawa gets a 2022 7RD pick in giving away a UFA that would not have been very valuable to them and was not a consistant defensemen our the Ottawa blue line.
Toronto Calgary
David Rittich (50% retained) 2022 3RD (TOR)
Analysis: Toronto goes all in first with the Foligno trade and now with this. David Rittich never solely had the starters job in Calgary but now gets to play for Toronto. Freddie Anderson is injured and Jack Campbell has played beyond well but if Anderson was out long term they would get a goalie. Rittich will probably back up Campbell and when Freddie Anderson gets back Rittich will move to 3RD string goalie. He has (2.90 GAA .904 SV%) in 15 games played and caries a ($1.38 Million after 50% retained in trade UFA). Calgary gets draft capital by trading a pending UFA for the 2022 3RD pick.
Washington New Jersey
Con 2021 3RD (ARI) Jonas Siegenthaler
Analysis: the Devils acquire defence depth while Washington gets cap space. Siegenthaler never really was able to get playing time with the Caps but with New Jersey and them possibly moving pending UFA D-Men Siegenthaler could be a regular top 6 defensemen for the rest of the season . He has (0G-0A-0P) in 7 games played and caries a ($.800 Thousand RFA). On the flip side Washington is able to move out money and get a draft pick for him. The condition on the pick is if Arizona keeps their third round pick from this year New Jersey will trade their own to Washington.
Montreal Detroit
Jon Merrill 2021 5RD (Ott)
Hayden Verbeek
Analysis: the Canadiens get some defensive depth for their playoff run in this trade. Jon Merrill is a great depth guy and will most likely play on the 3RD pair and help soften the hole filled by the loss of Ben Chiarot and was probably the reason we saw Mete on the Waivers today. He has (0G-5A-5P) in 36 games played and caries a ($.925 Thousand UFA). For Detroit they get a draft pick 2021 5RD and a young player for a pending UFA. Hayden Verbeek has never played a NHL game but has promise and caries a ($.753 Thousand RFA).
Cleared Waivers
Colton Sceviour
Juuso Riikola
Placed on Waivers
Josh Healey
Dan Goloubef: each of these two signed contracts and will need to clear Waivers to sign
Alex Biega ($.875 Thousand UFA Detroit)
Danny Dekeyser ($5 Million 1Year Left Detroit)
Sami Vatanen ($2 Million UFA New Jersey)
Victor Mete ($.735 Thousand RFA Montreal)
Some notes from Saturday night headlines.
1 . Hall, Janmark and Foligno updates.
On Hall: apparently the Islanders were pushing hard for Taylor Hall and could circle back but a lot of the teams are hoping the price for Hall goes down the closer it gets to the deadline. On Janmark: Janmark was held out of yesterday’s game and has a track record
of producing points with high end line mate and is a cheap contract making lot of teams check in on him. And on Foligno: Columbus is hoping to get a 1RD pick in a trade for Foligno and a team who is a good fit apparently is Minnesota as he would be paired with his brother Marcus.
2 . Ullmark, Laughton, and Iafallo updates
The Sabres are looking to lock up a goalie as Ullmark a pendingUFA has played really well on a bad Sabers team and the only goalie signed through next year is Dustin Tokarski. And for Both Laughton and Iafallo they both like where they play they are both a meaningful member to there team and would only be traded if there was no hope of a contract extension.
3 . Getzlaf, Gabriel and Gusev updates.
Ryan Getzlaf trade talks have amped up over the last 48 hours but his contract and his no move clause makes it very unlikely to move him. Teams have been calling on physical forward Kurtis Gabriel from San Jose and is another possible forward that moves tomorrow. Nikita Gusev has his contract terminated is looking to sign some where and Florida is the current front runner.
