NHL Trade Rumors and News
Saturday TRADE
Colorado Buffalo
Jonas Johansson 7 3.79 .884 2021 6RD pick
Analysis: Colorado needed a back up goalie with Pavel Francouz injured and while he is not perfect he will make do for Colorado. He is not the top backup goalie trade candidate but he is a upgrade on current backup Hunter Miska 5 4.16 .838. As for Buffalo it Gould be the start of a fire sale as it looks like buffalo will blow up their roster.
Wednesday TRADE
Anaheim Tampa Bay
Alex Volkov Antoine Morand
2023 con 7RD
Analysis: this is a monitor trade for each but could be bigger. Volkov was most likely brought in to help Anaheim with some depth scoring and could find his way into the lineup. In his career he has (3G-3A-6P) in 28 games played. As for Antoine Morand he has yet to play a NHL game bud was a higher prospect on Anaheim’s list. Each player was a second Round Pick in 2017 (Volkov #48 and Morand #60). As for the pick if Anaheim at the time of the draft has the pick it goes to Tampa if not than Tampa gets Anaheim’s 2024 7RD.
Insider trading Tuesday
1 . Mikael Granlund the best fit with Toronto.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a cheap top sixth can help them in their playoff run and they might be close to targeting him. Granlund I’m pretty sure was the first big foward connected to Toronto and he carries a $3.75 million contract until the end of the year has a (6G-6A-12P) in 29 games played. Nashville might wait until closer to the deadline to deal as they have pushed themselves back into the playoff race.
2 . Top Prospect, Draft Pick and a third asset the asking price for Ekholm.
Mattias Ekholm who has a $3.75 million (5G-9A-14P) 26 games played. is right now basically the top trade target in the NHL this year and for whatever team tries to acquire him will have a steep price to pay. Flyers, Bruins and Jets are just a few teams who have reportedly been interested in the top 4 D-Man who has played really well and still has 1 year left on his contract. If anyone tries to acquire him they will most likely have to give up a 1RD pick, a top Prospect and a third asset each can differ.
3 . Pearson to talk extension soon with Vancouver.
Tanner Pearson could talk about extension soon before they have the idea of trading him. Tanner Pearson has a $3.75 million contract (6G-5A-11P) 33 games played, and is a pending UFA and would be a welcome addition to a contender who is looking for a middle six foward who can score. They said that Jim Benning and Tanner Pearson’s camp will probably get together during the Canucks up coming mini break and see what we if they can at least handshake on a deal.
4 . Arizona is open for Business
Right now Arizona is willing to do just about anything to try and improve their team before the deadline. A couple of names that have been floated around are Alex Goligoski, Darcy Kuemper, Jason Demers, and Conner Garland, they are still in a playoff race but need to restock their draft picks and treating one of their top end players could give them what they need.
5 . Backup Goalie updates
Just an update Darcy Kuemper and Jonathan Bernier could each be back soon from injury and have interest from other teams that could possibly want make a trade
Some quick thoughts from Elliott Friedman’s 31 thoughts.
Teams have been calling and have been shocked by what the price is for Mattias Ekholm and have been asking about Ellis and have not been yelled at for asking that so it’s a possibility that Ellis could be traded but slim. He also says Dustin Brown could be a really great fit in New York with the Islanders to try and replace Anders Lee. As well as saying the Coyotes are not hanging up the phone when it comes to Conner Garland and could trade him for the right price meaning a lot of high draft picks. Vancouver could trade pending UFA’s such as Tanner Pearson, Alex Edler, Jordie Benn, Brandon Sutter and Travis Hamonic. And if Philly can’t get a Ryan Ellis or Mattias Ekholm they could look to someone like Detroit’s Marc Stall as a trade option.
