Oilers to deal Nurse?

 Oilers to move Nurse in the Offseason? 

Hey everyone we are back with our blog posts, as today we head to Edmonton as the Oilers apparently had some discussions at the deadline that could pickup in the offseason regarding one of their top 4 defenders on a bad contract.

So according to David Pagnotta, he says that he doesn't know how far things got, but he does say that the Edmonton Oilers had trade discussions before the trade deadline involving Darnell Nurse. Now, it wound up being too much of a complicated deal to do in-season and Nurse is still with the Edmonton Oilers, so although the Oilers have looked better as of late, they're still not a really great team so there is a very likely chance they get out in round one or two this year. So, Pagnotta does mention that in the offseason this could be a deal they look to revisit even though Nurse has trade protection on his contract, so that could be a very interesting trade option as we saw recently a defenseman with a very high cap hit wind up getting dealt and that was Seth Jones. 

The Blackhawks had to retain a little bit of money but they were able to get rid of most of that contract to Florida in a deal that worked out for both sides but it was able to land the Hawks a first round pick and Knight, now Nurse is not as well rounded of a defenseman as Seth Jones is, but he does have a tiny bit of a cheaper contract, so I could see if the Oilers were able to retain a bit and bump that cap hit down to like maybe $7 million, maybe $6.5 million, I could see a team or two out there who have a solid top four defensive defenseman who they could pair with Darnell Nurse, maybe try and take that contract on and I wouldn't be surprised if there were actually some teams who had some levels of interest in Darnell Nurse.

So, I'm not going to say it's a guarantee and the Oilers might actually have to pay someone to take on that contract, but Nurse is still a pretty decent four or five defensemen who is offensive minded and can put you up points, He's just not an overly great all around defenseman. So, we'll have to wait and see on that, but it does seem like the Oilers were exploring the trade market for Darnell Nurse before the trade deadline and it seems like this is a trade that they're going to revisit in the offseason to try and free up a whole bunch of cap space to make improvements on their team elsewhere. So we'll have to wait and see on if that happens in the offseason but I would definitely watch Nurse this offseason, but I would like to hear your thoughts below on if you think Nurse could get moved, and don’t forget to check out my YouTube channel.
