Jackets moving one of their 1RD Picks.
In today’s blog post we are looking at the Columbus Blue Jackets as according to Don Waddell who was talking to Mark Scheig of the hockey writers, Waddell told him that both of CBJ’s first round picks for this upcoming draft are on the table and they'd be open to moving those picks.
Now we know the Jackets barely missed out on the playoffs this year as they were two points out of passing Montreal or New Jersey for a playoff spot in this year's playoffs, so they barely missed out and the Jackets know they are very close to being a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference and a couple of moves and they're going to be a really scary team to face and they have a lot of really good young players already, so if you can insulate that with a couple of good veterans that's going to be a very scary team to face for a long time.
Now with that in mind it seems that the Jackets are open to moving their first round picks they currently have, as they have the 14th overall pick which is their own and the 20th overall pick which is Minnesota's, so because of the David Jiricek deal they got the Wild's first round pick and they also got their own first round pick, so they have two top 20 first round picks.
Now I'm not sure if they'll trade both of them, but there's a really good chance they'll move off one and they'll keep the other as I think they could definitely still use some more prospects in their system, but definitely with the way that it's shaping up right now I can see why they would move a first round pick because if they move a first round pick for maybe someone who can fit in the top six or someone who can fit in the top four, not exactly sure who they could try and target, but if you move one of those picks for something like that I think that would be a very smart move there for the Jackets and I think it could definitely help them out.
So we're going to have to wait and see on that and once again it’s not a guarantee by any means the Jackets move either of their first round picks, but Don Waddell has mentioned now that they are open to moving their first round picks for the right deal and could do something before the draft so we'll have to wait and see on that but keep your eye on the Jackets.
