Hab’s to try and acquire second line Center.
In today’s blog post we are looking at the Montreal Canadians as we've heard a couple of things about them and there's been a couple of recent articles that popped up and i've also seen this from a couple of other sources saying that the Canadians big target in the offseason will probably wind up being a 2nd line Centre.
Now Nick Suzuki has been absolutely phenomenal as their top line center and he's been such a great add there ever since the Knights traded him for Pacioretty all those years back, but they really don't have a solid second line center, Alex Newhook's actually done quite well this year but I'm not sure if he's a true 2nd line center and he can be a winger and can play as the third line center as he is a very versatile guy, but I'm not sure if he's the best 2nd line Center and Kirby Dach who they did bring in to be their 2nd line Center a few years back has just had so many injuries I don't think he's suited to be the 2nd line Center at this point in time, so with that in mind I think they will try and target a 2nd line Center and i'm not sure if they will try and move Kirby Dach in a potential deal to try and get a 2C, but a couple of trade options that Marco Di’Amico mentioned when he was talking about the Canadiens potentially going after a 2C was Matt Duchene in Free Agency or Anton Lundell in the trade market.
Now both of those guys do make some sense Duchene is in the final year of his deal with Dallas and he's making $3 million right now and probably going to be due for like a 3-4 year deal at like $4 to 5 million so i'm not sure if Duchene would want to go to Montreal which I think would hold up any sort of option for Duchene to go to Montreal, as I probably think he would want to stay in the south in the US so we're going to have to wait and see on that, but I don't think Duchene is a very likely option but if they were to get him he could be a very fantastic 2C behind Suzuki.

When it comes to Anton Lundell, Di’Amico says that after they sign Bennett it really does halter Lundell being a solid 2C going forward and that that could wind up leading the Panthers to trade him, Lundell if he was to go to Montreal would be exactly what they need, a bigger body type guy who can move the puck well, put the puck in the back of the net and be a very solid 2nd line Center behind Nick Suzuki, so I think Lundell would be a really interesting option and i've seen some people say maybe a guy like Matt Barzal but I highly doubt that would happen with him being one of the best Islanders players so I don't see that happening, maybe Bo Horvat who's been mentioned in the trade market and if they were to go to the UFA market, could they try and target a guy like Pius Suter who's having a really good season in Vancouver and there's probably a couple of other Center options too.
So keep an eye on the Habs this offseason as they're still trying to fight for a playoff spot right now, so that's sort of on the back burner right now, but when they do get into the off-season expect them to try and target a 2nd line Center to play behind Suzuki and maybe look at Duchene or Lundell as likely targets.
