Ryan McDonagh             Philippe Myers

                                        Grant Mismash

Analysis: the Predators and Lightning make a blockbuster deal as Nashville is able to add good veteran defensemen Ryan McDonagh from the Lightning in exchange for Philippe Myers and Grant Mismash. This is a good trade for both teams but for deferent reasons. For Nashville this is a amazing move as they get the though veteran in McDonagh. McDonagh has helped the Lightning make the Stanley Cup Final in three straight seasons and in my opinion is going to be in the same sort of role as he was in Tampa in, as he will probably be the third pair defensemen on the left side behind Ekholm and Josi just like he was in Tampa behind Sergachev and Hedman.  McDonagh’s contract isn’t the best at 4 years with a AAV of $6.75 Million but he brings experience especially in the Stanley Cup Final, as well as brings a physical element and is a perfect shutdown defender and he can also bring the offense after he had 26 points last year following 2 seasons where he only had 12 and I think he will do good things with the Predators. As for Tampa Bay they are able to get a lot of cap space as they save $4.2 Million in this deal and with Tampa trying to improve and keep Palat in the fold they needed to clear some cap space and while I don’t think they wanted to trade McDonagh it was a move that was made out of necessity. Now in return they are getting first Philippe Myers who is a underperforming defensemen on a not too great deal. Myers is currently entering the final year of his contract at a cap hit of $2.55 but spent last season splitting time between the AHL and NHL and while he is a buyout possibility as if the Bolts bought him out they would take his entire cap hit plus some off the books but if he stays I do think he will get a NHL chance either on the 2nd or 3rd pair and maybe replace pending UFA Rutta and get a chance to revitalize his career. And they also got Grant Mismash in the deal. Now Mismash was a 2RD pick way back in the 2017 draft and after having 4 seasons of decent play in the NCAA he had his first taste of pro action this year getting 6 goals and 12 points in 57 AHL games and is a year away from becoming a RFA. Now I don’t think that it is out of the realm of possibility that he will now be a NHL player although it will be difficult and I think that he could become a bottom 6 forward eventually at the NHL level but I am not so sure right now. So to recap the Predators get a veteran 3rd pair defensemen who is a experienced player and the Lightning get a younger player who hasn’t lived up to potential and a young prospect who could still turn out to be a good depth forward and they also get $4.2 Million in cap space and I think that both teams got accomplished what they needed done and I don’t think either one is done making moves.
