For today’s trade rumours I am giving my opinion on three different forwards who I think will be moved this offseason.
Beauvillier was a big reason why the Islanders made it to two consecutive Confrence Finals but after a very bad year this season from him there is a lot of talk that he will be moved. Beauvillier is still young enough in my opinion that he can still be a effective middle 6 forward for a team who is looking to get younger and could use a forward who can produce at key times. Now while he didn’t produce anywhere close as to where he had the previous two seasons he still had a decent season with 34 points and has now gone 5 straight seasons with at least 28 points in a season and still seems like he can produce if he can get back to his previous form. Now he still has 2 years left on his contract at $4.15 Million dollars per year that he signed before last season and while he didn’t play up to that contract last year I think with a new team and some new line mates he should be able to live up to that contract. Now I have heard that the Islanders are going to look into bringing in a top 6 forward and a top 4 defensemen this year and with them being tight too the cap I could see them move Beauvillier as part of a bigger deal that could bring them a bigger player, but if they were to just trade him then it would take a 2RD or 3RD pick or another underperforming player who is on a cheaper deal, and I would think a team looking for a young forward that has cap space and I would say that a team like Detroit, Buffalo or Seattle would be a good fit for Beauvillier and a team who would likely try to acquire him.
Labanc is the oldest of all the young players I am talking about but I do feel that after a few bad seasons and with the Sharks having some major cap issues, I feel that Labanc will be on a new team by the start of next year. Labanc spent most of this year on injury reserve as he got injured in November and wound up only playing 21 games this year but it does sound like he should be back next year after recovering from injury but he is going to have to bounce back in a big way to be a big part of a team. A few years ago Labanc had a career high 56 points in a full 82 game season and it seems like he was going to be a big part of the Sharks team moving forward but since then has slowly dropped in production having 33 points the following year and then 28 which was followed by the 6 points last year so he needs to get his career back on track as he was mostly used in a bottom 6 role last year. He currently has 2 seasons left on his contract before becoming a UFA at $4.73 Million dollars per year and even though his term isn’t that bad the money is definitely going to be a problem in trying to move his contract. Now I feel that if San Jose can move his entire contract that he would only bring in a 4RD or 5RD pick but if San Jose was willing to eat some of the cap then I would have no doubt that they could get a 3RD pick or mid level prospect for him. Now he would be a 3RD line winger on most teams in my opinion and I would think that a team like Anaheim, Arizona or Buffalo could take his entire contract and use him as a middle six forward, while if the Sharks retain a bit I could see him being moved to a team that needs a middle 6 forward like maybe NYI, LA or Winnipeg as maybe a possible landing spot for him but I definitely believe he will be on a different team next year.
Zadina is a former first round pick that has had NHL experience for the past few seasons but has slowly lost a top 6 role with the Red Wings and it may be time for the player and team to go their separate ways. Zadina has been a top 6 forward over the past few seasons but has lost four hat ability this year to other forwards as he didn’t have a bad year as he put up a career high in points and goals but only put up 24 points and for a former top 10 draft pick of not very long ago is might help if they were to give him a fresh starts and it’s not that he is a bad player but just that he lost a top 6 role with the emergence of Raymond and good play of Fabbri. Now he is a RFA coming out of his ELC and with his play I would probably suspect a 2-3 year deal on his next contract that would carry a AAV of between $1.5-3 Million dollars per year and I would think that if he is able to regain form and play like a top 10 pick then I have no doubt he could be a top 6 forward who could most likely play on the 2nd line of a team. Now I suspect that he would probably be traded for maybe a young forward who can play in their middle 6 or maybe a underperforming defensemen who could grow into a top 4 defensemen for the Red Wings and a team who I could see trading for him would be a team who could use a reasonably cheap middle six forward like maybe a Vancouver, Boston, Arizona, San Jose or maybe even Minnesota has I feel a fresh start is in the cards for the young Detroit defensemen.
And here is a list of all signings for the NHL from MAY 13th to MAY 23rd.
Pacific
Calgary
Right Winger, Center Adam Klapka who was a undrafted free agent signed a 2 year entry level contract with the Calgary Flames that caries a AAV of $.833 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season and he had a very good year at Czechia and while I don’t see him competing for a NHL spot for at least a few years I do think that he can get a spot in the AHL next year.
Right Winger Ilya Nikolayev who was a 3RD pick in the 2019 draft by the Calgary Flames signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Flames and it caries a AAV of $.837 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. He had a amazing year in the NCAA last year and I fully expect him to play in the AHL this season and could eventually see him as a bottom 6 NHL forward.
San Jose
Right Winger, Center Mitchell Russell who was a undrafted free agent signed a 3 year entry level contract with the Edmonton Oilers that caries a AAV of $.837 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season and he had a brake out year in the OHL and while he could be a NHL player in a couple years I think he goes back to play in the OHL next year.
Central
Chicago
Left Defender Filip Roos who was a undrafted free agent signed a 2 year entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks that caries a AAV of $.925 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season and he didn’t put up very many points in the SHL last year but I do believe he could play in the AHL this upcoming season.
Dallas
Left Winger Fredrik Olofsson who was a 4RD pick in the 2014 draft by the Chicago Blackhawks signed a 1 year entry level contract with the Stars and it caries a AAV of $.750 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. He was definitely drafted a while ago and while he started out slowly, this year he had a breakout season in the SHL and I think he will play in the AHL next year.
Minnesota
Goalie Jesper Wallstedt who was a 1RD pick in the 2021 draft by the Minnesota Wild signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Wild and it caries a AAV of $.925 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Wallstedt had a absolutely brilliant year in the SHL and I have no doubt he will be a starter in the NHL and while I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a NHL spot next year, he will most likely start in the AHL next year.
Nashville
Goalie Yaroslav Askarov who was a 1RD pick in the 2020 draft by the Nashville Predators signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Predators and it caries a AAV of $.925 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Askarov is probably the best goalie prospect in the NHL right now and the future of Nashville’s net but I would suspect he probably would start in the AHL next year.
St.Louis
Goalie Vadim Zherenko who was a 7RD pick in the 2019 draft by the St.Louis Blues signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Blues and it caries a AAV of $.847 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Zherenko had a decent year last year in Liiga and I suspect him to go back there next year to play.
Atlantic
Boston
Defender Jakub Zboril and the Boston Bruins have agreed to terms on a 2 year contract extension that caries a AAV of $1.14 Million dollars per year and the contract will kick in the 22-23 season. Zboril has been more of a NHL forward over the past two years but was out for most of this year due tor a injury but I think that he can still be a good 3RD pair defensemen in Boston and I think he can still play good hockey.
Center John Beecher who was a 1RD pick in the 2019 draft by the Boston Bruins signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Bruins and it caries a AAV of $.925 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Beecher has had a couple fantastic years over in college and while they weren’t the most productive I still see him as a legit top 6 forward and I think he will play in either the NHL or AHL next year.
Buffalo
Right Winger Olivier Nadeau who was a 4RD pick in the 2021 draft by the Buffalo Sabres signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Sabres and it caries a AAV of $.859 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Nadeau has put up some really good numbers in the QMJHL over the past two years and while I suspect that is where he will play next year I could see him eventually working his way to playing in the NHL.
Detroit
Left Winger, Center Pontus Andreasson who was a undrafted free agent signed a 1 year entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings that caries a AAV of $.843 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season and has improved in the SHL over the past few seasons and I think he should get a chance next year to play in the AHL.
Left Winger Taro Hirose and the Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms on a 2 year contract extension that caries a AAV of $.850 Thousand dollars per year and the contract will kick in the 22-23 season. Hirose is not a full time NHL player at the moment but is a very likely call up option and while I don’t expect him to be a regular next season I definitely think that there is a chance that he gets into some games over the next few years.
Steven Kampfer is back in the NHL as he signed a 1 year deal with the Detroit Red Wings that caries a AAV of $.750 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will begin in the 22-23 season. Kampfer has played in the NHL before having 231 career games under his belt but spent this past year in KHL and now after he signed with Detroit I would expect him to play in some NHL games as well as some AHL games in the upcoming season.
Tampa Bay
Left Winger Jaydon Dureau who was a 5RD pick in the 2020 draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning signed his 3 year entry level contract with the Lightning and it caries a AAV of $.842 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Dureau has been a great player in the WHL and has even got some AHL games in and while I think it is possible he becomes a NHL player I see him playing in the AHL next year.
Toronto
Left Defender Mark Giordano and the Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to terms on a 2 year contract extension that caries a AAV of $.800 Thousand dollars per year and the contract will kick in the 22-23 season. For heat Giordano brings to the table this contract is a absolute steal and I feel that he will be able to stabilize that D-Corp and will bring a veteran presence to this team for the next few years.
Metro
Columbus
Goalie Joonas Korpisalo and the Columbus Blue Jackets have come to terms on a 1 year contract extension that has a AAV of $1.3 Million dollars and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season. Korpisalo had a very bad year last season as he dealt with a ton of injuries and had the worst numbers of his career and this is basically the Blue Jackets filling the backup role for next year and Korpisalo will get a chance to prove he can still be a starter in the NHL.
New York R
Center Gustav Rydahl who was a undrafted free agent signed a 1 year entry level contract with the New York Rangers that caries a AAV of $.750 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in the 22-23 season and has improved in the SHL over the past year and I suspect he will be in the SHL or AHL next year.
Pittsburgh
Winger Bryan Rust ans the Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to terms on a 6 year contract extension that will carry a AAV of $5.13 Million dollars per year and the deal will begin in the 22-23 season. Rust has been with the Penguins his entire career and has produce at a amazing level over the last 3 seasons and although I thought he wouldn’t return based on the impending free agents of Letang and Malkin as well as their cap space but signing him to this deal can keep him with Crosby and Guentzel on the Penguins top line for years to come.
Philadelphia
Left Defender Adam Ginning who was a 2RD pick in the 2018 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers signed his 2 year entry level contract with the Flyers and it caries a AAV of $.884 Thousand dollars per year and will kick in the 22-23 season. Ginning had a pretty good SHL season but I suspect he goes back and there next year.
Defender Nick Seeler and the Philadelphia have agreed to a 2 year contract extension that will have a AAV of $.775 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will start in the 22-23 season. Seeler played well on the 3rd pair in Philadelphia last year and I suspect that depending on the Flyers offseason moves that he will either be a suitable 3rd pair defensemen or maybe as a seventh defensemen.
Right Winger Linus Sandin and the Philadelphia Flyers have come to terms on a 1 year extension that will carry a cap hit of $.750 Thousand dollars per year and the deal will kick in next year. Linus Sandin had a decent season in the AHL last year and while I think he could be a call up option next year for Philadelphia, I do fully expect him to play in the AHL again next year.
