Copp decision coming and ramifications of today’s trades plus a major singing and waiver news

 NHL trade rumours and News

Some recent signings

Detroit has agreed to terms with 2020 2RD pick (55th overall) Left Winger Cross Hanas to his entry level contract for 3 years at $.859 thousand dollars per year and has been a very productive player in the WHL for Portland and now he could start his pro career.

Tampa Bay has signed undrafted left side defensemen Declan Carlile to a entry level contract for 2 years worth $.855 Thousand per year and he can start at the pro level after having a productive year in the NCAA.

Florida has signed 2020 4RD pick (105th overall) left side defensemen Zach Uens to a 3 year entry level contract worth $.859 thousand and has had a very productive year in Merrimack in the NCAA and should now start his pro career.

Joe Snively has signed a extension with Washington signing a 2 year extension worth $.800 Thousand dollars per year. Snively has gotten his first taste of NHL action this year being called up on multiple occasions mostly due to injury and has been okay having 4 goals and 7 points in 12 games and while he is currently on IR and out for a extended period I fully suspect him to be in the mix for a bottom six role next year.

And finally the big signing of the day as the Sharks and center Tomas Hertl have finally agreed to a contract extension after working on it for a while. The extension will kick in beginning next year taking the pending UFA status off of him as it is a 8 year deal with a AAV of $8.138 Million per year. Hertl has been a really good top 6 forward for San Jose this year putting up 25 goals and 48 points in 59 games which is his second highest season total in his career and even though I am worried about this contract long term over the next 4-5 years I think he will be amazing for San Jose and they could only get this deal done after terminating the Kane contract so a lot had to go right to get him signed and it did and he will remain in San Jose.

Mark Jankowski has now cleared waivers and is eligible to be sent to the minors. I said yesterday that I didn’t think he would be claimed because he is at best a depth forward and I was right so Buffalo will probably move to the minors right now.

Two more players have been placed on waivers today. First the Oilers have placed forward Tyler Bensonon waivers. He I could see getting claimed because he is a younger forward at 24 years old and a RFA so while he hasn’t produced to the level the Oilers have expected of him, on a team where they lack good bottom 6 forwards or have lots of injuries I could see him being claimed. And the second guy is Mathieu Perreault who was placed on waivers by Montreal. The Canadiens are starting to get healthier and the pending UFA hasn’t done very good this year and I do think that there is a small chance that there is a team who claims him because he can still be a productive bottom six forward I do believe he will clear and be sent to the minors but maybe he is claimed who knows.

Jack McBain drawing interest from Montreal.

McBain is currently a prospect of the Minnesota Wild who isn’t signed and in the NCAA and has already stated that he wouldn’t resign with the Wild and due to this the Wild are probably going to try to trade him before the trade deadline. McBain is a young center who has had a amazing season in Boston College putting up 33 points in 24 games this year and seems that he could be a middle six Center in the right organization. Now recent reports have stated that the Wild are looking to acquire a 2RD pick for the former 3RD pick and he has recently been linked to the Canadiens. Montreal after today’s deals have nine picks in the first four rounds for this draft so trading a 2RD pick for a solid young prospect would probably not scare them and given they are looking for young players I do see this as being a fit to look out for.

Jack Drury could be traded by Carolina

Another young prospect could be on the move in the near future as recent reports suggest that the Hurricanes could be open to the idea of moving Jack Drury to another team before the deadline. Drury could probably be regarded as one of the Hurricanes top prospects right now and seems to have a bright future in the NHL in my opinion. He was a 2RD pick in 2018 and has played up to that level as he had 2 goals in his first two NHL games this season and has put up a impressive 37 points in 50 AHL games this season and with him in my opinion possibly being a middle six Center and the Hurricanes looking to add before the Deadline I do the ink that he could be the Center piece of a trade that brings them a impact player.

Is Florida a landing spot for Giroux after today’s deals.

Florida has made two seperate deals today first sending Vatrano to New York R and then acquiring Chiarot from the Canadiens but the question that I have is if it is feasible to now trade for Claude Giroux after theses deals. Now first is their cap space and they actually have more cap space after today then before due to the fact that Montreal retained salary on Chiarot and there was no retained salary on Vatrano they actually have $.750 Thousand more then before today but they did move their 2023 1RD pick in the Chiarot deal so do they have the cap space to get Giroux, in my opinion yes but do they have the assets to do a trade of that magnitude, I against what I have heard today would say probably no and while I do think that they could trade Tippett without a top round pick in the draft for the next couple years to me that makes this trade hard.

Giordano is scratched from today’s game and could be dealt soon

Before today’s games against the Lightning, the Kraken has announced and went through with scratching their captain Mark Giordano with the trade deadline looming. He becomes the second significant player and defensemen to be scratched before the deadline and I do believe just like the Chiarot deal we could see a Giordano trade in the very near future. As he saw with Chiarot he was scratched on Tuesday and traded to Florida Wednesday so with the trades coming in no short supply and Seattle already kicking off their moves I think that Girodano who has played great for Seattle and is their first Captain in history could be dealt and could be dealt soon.

Copp decision to be made over the weekend

The Jets have found their way back into a playoff race and there status for the trade deadline is up in the air but it seems as though the Jets will be making the decision on whether to trade or not trade great top 6 forward Andrew Copp. Copp is a great forward in Winnipeg as he has put up 32 points in 54 games this season just a tad under his production last year but he is a pending UFA at a cap hit $3.64 Million and they have to weigh the options of either moving Copp for assets right now and possibly miss him in the playoffs or keep him for a playoff run and risk losing him as a free agent so while I think they should sell high and trade him before the deadline I wouldn’t be surprised if he is still with Winnipeg after the deadline.
