NHL trade rumours and News
Some recent signings
Ottawa has agreed to terms with 2020 6RD pick Left Winger Philippe Daoust to a 3 year entry level contract worth $.821 Thousand dollars per year. He could be in the NHL soon as he has already played in 15 AHL games this season putting up 5 assists but now that he is under contract he can officially be brought to the NHL.
And Vegas made a stunning signing bringing in veteran Defensemen Derick Pouliot to a 1 year deal with a 2 way deal and it being with league minimum $.750 Thousand. Pouliot has been in the NHL before usually as a depth piece but hasn’t played since 2 years ago when he was called up with St.Louis and even though he hasn’t played in the NHL in a while he debuted tonight due to injuries for Vegas and had a assist so he could be a depth piece with the injuries in Vegas.
Tyler Benson for Edmonton and Mathieu Perreault for Montreal both Cleared waivers. I was a bit surprised that no one claimed young bottom six forward Benson who i think could still be a productive bottom six forward but no one claimed him so he will and has been sent to the minors but I wasn’t surprised that Perreault even though he is a productive bottom six forward I think he might be a bit less productive so no surprise for me that he cleared.
Andrej Sekera of the Stars was placed on Waivers. Now he is a great veteran 3rd pair defensemen but is coming off a injury and has a fair bit of money and hasn’t been awfully productive this year so based on those facts I fully expect Sekera to clear and be sent to the minors.
Owen Tippet scratched from a AHL game, Nick Leddy the third consecutive defensemen to be scratched.
With the trade deadline just around the corner their are a couple of players who were scratched from today’s games to make sure they are healthy before the deadline. First off the Panthers scratched young prospect Owen Tippet from playing in his game with Charlotte. Now this has fuelled speculation that the Panthers are still going to try to trade for Flyers forward Giroux and they are still one of the favourites. Now while I think it is possible to move other piece then a first rounder given they don’t have one over the next two year they could still acquire Giroux but I think it is a lot more unlikely now. I just think Giroux is too rich for no first rounder but I still believe the Panthers will add up front and I think Tippet could definitely be part of a deal. And at the NHL level Nick Leddy was scratched by Detroit before tonight’s game. Leddy has been a veteran presence in Detroit’s D-Corp and a mentor for Seider but is a Pending UFA and could wind up getting Detroit quite a haul given that they moved a 2RD for him so getting someone or a draft pick back for him before the deadline would be a smart move and I think would be helpful to Detroit even though he has been great in Detroit in my opinion.
The Rangers have interest in Stars Radulov.
A report came out today that surprised me a bit but it sounds like the Rangers have a bit of interest in Stars Winger Alex Radulov. Radulov started the season in the Stars top 6 but has had his production dip down after he was moved to being a bottom 6 forward mostly on the fourth line so a fresh start elsewhere for the veteran where he could get more playing time would probably be good for him I think. Now I do have two problems with this, first would the Stars even consider moving him given they are in the thick of a playoff race and. Oils use all the help they can get and two, even if the Stars are ok with moving him I think the Rangers might not make the best sense given his contract and how not productive he has been this now if New York strikes out elsewhere yes I could see it happening but i don’t see this being a top priority for NYR.
Giordano the Maple Leafs target.
The Maple Leafs sounds like they will be trying to add before the deadline this year and a Kraken defensemen recently scratched could be the target. Giordano was scratched from yesterday’s game and the Krakens captain is expected to be moved in the coming days. The Krakens first captain in history has now had a bad season this year but is getting their in age however with him still being productive the Kraken seem to be looking for at least a first round pick in a Giordano trade and the Maple Leafs have said they don’t want to trade their first rounder for a rental which is te hat Giordano is so if these two teams are to make a deal centring around Giordano one team will have to given in about the first round pick in my opinion.
Giroux deal to happen soon.
Claude Giroux is one of the best Flyers in recent memory and was playing in his 1000th NHL game tonight but now that he has reached the 1000 game mark a lot of people think a trade will come together in short order. Currently the front runners to land Giroux are Florida and Colorado but I still think that Minnesota should be trying to acquire him it’s just a gut feeling that I have but after that 1000th game where he has played all of his NHL games with Philadelphia and that he won’t travel with the team it does sound like he will be traded and I would say closer the deadline but definitely he will be moved.
Forsberg could very well be moved by the deadline.
The Nashville Predators are still fighting for a playoff spot and are still contemplating moving their star winger. So apparently there hasn’t been very much contract talk between the Predators and Forsberg as of late and given the fact that the Preds probably don’t want to go past the deadline with a unsigned player could possibly mean that the Preds might wind up dealing him before the deadline. He would definitely command a high price and I would think that they would probably want to keep him but in my opinion it would be very hard to extend him and on top of that I seriously think they won’t keep him past the deadline if not signed so keep an eye on Forsberg over the next little while.
