Injury report and trade news from Nashville and Arizona

 NHL Trade Rumors

Coyotes players who I think should get traded before the trade deadline.

#1) Phil Kessel

Kessel is arguably the best trade chip the Coyotes have this year as they set up to be sellers. Kessel is now 34 and his production is declining and he’s not the same player he used to be, but if a team put him on the 2nd or 3rd line he could produce very nicely. He currently has 21 points in 30 games with Arizona this season and should be relatively easy to move given he’s a pending UFA, but his $6.4 million dollars cap hit would definitely be difficult to move but if they retained 50% of his salary a trade should be able to come. I would ask teams interested a 2nd or 3rd round pick and maybe a mid level prospect for acquiring Kessel and a dark horse team from each conference who I could see having interest is Carolina and Nashville.

#2) Shayne Gostisbehere

This was a underrated offseason pick up. Gostisbehere was acquired by Arizona in the offseason as a cap dump, as Philly gave Arizona a second round pick to take Gostisbehere. Now in the missle  of the season Gostisbehere has 20 points in 30 games and has his highest point total since the 18-19 season, Now he is a amazing offensive Defensemen but not so great defensively so in pairing him with a more defensive defensemen his scoring ability comes out more. It might be tricky moving his contract which had the rest of this year and next at a $4.5 million dollars cap hit but if Arizona retains cap or does a money out, money in sort of deal then they could definitely work out a deal. I think Arizona would want a second or third round pick for him and a couple of teams who I could see having interest if they can make the money work would be New York R and Los Angeles.

#3) Johan Larsson and Ilya Lyubushkin

Two depth pieces who they could get a bit for. Both these players have been pretty good depth pieces and in my eyes Lyubushkin is a really underrated third pair Defensemen. Larsson has $1.4 million left on his contract before becoming a UFA and Lyubushkin has $1.35 on his deal. Larsson has 8 points in 18 games and I think he could be a very effective 3rd or 4th line player on a cup contender and if they trade him I’m looking for a 3rd or 4th round pick to trade him. As for Lyubushkin he has 6 assists in 29 games and would in my eyes be a solid 3rd pairing D-Men on any contending team, while I would ask for a fourth or fifth round pick for any team lokking to add depth for a playoff run.

Arizona is the worst team in the league at the moment and will be full on sellers as they expect to be busy over the coming months.

#2) should the Rangers try to trade for Tomas Hertl, and should Florida try to trade for Ben Chiarot.

These to rumors recently came out over the past week and I’m going to put my take on it. I think the Hertl to the Rangers deal would be less likely as I do think that the Rangers would have interest in Hertl, and they would not be shy to trade their first round pick or a top prospect and they have been looking for a middle six forward to replaced Sammy Blais who is done for the year, but I think that Hertl is more of a center and while he could play wing he is more of a center and even thought they would have some awesome center depth probably one of the NHL’s best I think they should focus on getting a pure winger like a Phil Kessel or a Brian Rust rather then attempt to acquire Hertl. And for Florida I could definitely see this trade happening as the Panthers have a amazing forward group and their goaltending Is superb but I do think a defensive upgrade is needed, and For Montreal it’s not a matter of if but when will Ben Chiarot be traded. The Panthers 3rd pairing left side is where I would put Chiarot if the Panthers do try to get him but they rumoured asking price is a first round pick which Florida doesn’t have for this year so they may have to move some other top thing but could definitely see this happening.

#3) what should Nashville do

I have heard plenty of rumors saying what Nashville should do after there well and very surprising to most of us start. They currently rank 2nd in the Central at 42 points in 33 games and are currently on pace for 104 points. Now I don’t think they will get to 100 points, they should finish somewhere in the mid-late 90s and should be a bubble team when all is said and done but at the deadline I think they will be conservative buyers. Now as for the Forsberg rumors I think they should keep him, unless they fall straight off and are definitely not a playoff team I think they will keep Forsberg who has been there best scorer and try to make the playoffs, but I don’t think they will be all in and start moving high prospects or first round picks. Now the places I could see them trying to get depth at would be a third line winger or a 3rd pairing D-Men. Their top six has been spectacular this and Jeannot has really had a solid season with Sissons but I think they could improve even more if they got a winger to play with those two on the Predators third line like a Vladislav Namestnikov, Andreas Athanasiou or a reunion with Calle Jarnkrok are three options of the top of my head, while their top 4 has been solid for Nashville but if they had a solid third line shut down D-Men on the Right side no offense to Benning but if they could upgrade I would try to do that with maybe Colin Miller, Nikita Zadorov or Calvin De Haan. And I would consider their second or third round pick, or maybe a young player who hasn’t really had playing time this year like Philippe Myers or Cosy Glass. And that is what I think the Preds and what they should do before the deadline.
