Draft Day trades list and analysis
Player trades
#1)
Philadelphia Flyers
Rasmus Ristolainen 1 year $5.4 Million (4G-14A-18P) in 49 regular season games
Analysis: Ristolainen can slot in right behind newly acquired Ryan Ellis on the 2ND pairing with Sanheim. He should help a defence that was last in the league last year even though they paid a steep price for him.
Buffalo Sabres
2021 1RD (#14)
2023 2RD
Robert Hagg 1 year, $1.6 Million, (2G-3A-5P) in 34 regular season games
Analysis: Hagg is a good bottom pairing Defensemen that could find a home with Buffalo even though he only has one year left on his contract and being able to get a first round pick in Friday’s Draft and a 2 rounder in 2 years from now for a 2nd or 3rd pair D-Men is a great steal for Buffalo
#2)
St.Louis
Pavel Buchnevich (Pending RFA) (20G-28A-48P) in 54 regular season games
Analysis: is a great addition to the blues top 6 as he proved he could play at an elite level and should fit on there 2ND line and help them overcome the possible losses of Tarasenko and Schwartz
New York R
2022 2RD
Sammy Blais 1 year $1.5 Million (8G-7A-15P) in 36 regular season games and 1 goal in 4 playoff games
Analysis: Blais will come at a cheaper price tag then Buchnevich would have and should be a productive bottom 6 Forward for the Rangers while they also get a 2nd round pick in next years draft for a very productive forward.
#3)
Vancouver
Oliver Ekman-Larsson 6 years $7.26 Million ($.990 Thousand retained (3G-21A-24P) in 46 regular season games
Connor Garland (Pending RFA) (12G-27A-39P) in 49 regular season games
Analysis: This is a great move for Vancouver. They had to move their 2021 1RD pick which is hard but they have three upsides, one is they get rid of the Beagle, Roussel, ans Eriksson contracts even if they only have a year left, two OEL can help with Leadership in a young Canucks blue line were he can be number two and Hughes can be #1, and three Garland is a dynamic young forward for the Canucks and can produce in the middle 6 for Vancouver and help play the post join Toffoli played two years ago.
Arizona
Jay Beagle 1 year $3 Million (1G-4A-5P) in 30 regular season games
Antoine Roussel 1 year $3 Million (1G-3A-4P) in 35 regular season games
Loui Eriksson 1 year $6 Million 1 assist in 7 regular season games
2021 1RD (#9)
2022 2RD
2022 7RD
Analysis: Once again the Coyotes trade quality players this time in OEL and Garland to acquire picks. Getting back into Friday’s draft with the 2021 1RD pick was big but also getting their 5th 2RD draft selection for next year is great and they only have to put up with the three bad contracts for a year and can be stopgaps in the bottom 6 for the upcoming season.
#4)
Columbus
Adam Boqvist 1 year $.894 Thousand (2G-14A-16P) in 35 regular season games
2021 1RD (#12)
2021 2RD (#44)
2022 con 1RD
Analysis: the Blue Jackets get a huge haul for their superstar D-Men. They get young defensemen Adam Boqvist you has developed into a top end center and can play on the top pairing, they traded up 20 spots to get the (#12) overall pick in Friday’s draft also a 2RD pick this year and a lottery protected 1RD pick in the 2022 draft meaning if Chicago gets the #1 or #2 pick then Columbus gets their 2023 1RD pick.
Chicago
Seth Jones 1 year $5.4 Million (5G-23A-28P) in 56 regular season games
2021 1RD (#32)
2022 6RD
Analysis: being able to get Seth Jones is great but they didn’t just get him, they also signed him to a $9.5 Million extension that will be announced Wednesday making him the third highest paid D-Men in the NHL and will be playing top line minutes for the Hawks, while they did have to trade down 20 spots in the 2021 draft and give up next years pick and solid D-Men Adam Boqvist it was a steep price to get a amazing player.
#5)
Carolina
2021 (#44)
Analysis: Carolina has a log jam on Defence so being able to move the great young D-Men Bean for the 2RD pick this year
Columbus
Jake Bean (Pending RFA) (1G-11A-12P) in 42 regular season games and 1 goal in 11 playoff games
Analysis: The Jackets are going through a rebuild and getting Bean solidifies the Left side of there D with Wereinski and Gavrikov and can emerge on the Jackets blue line.
#6)
Arizona
Cole Hults 1 year $.925 Thousand
Bokondji imama (Pending RFA)
Analysis: Hults and Imama are minor League players that could be called up on a depleted Arizona team.
Los Angeles
Brayden Burke (Pending RFA)
Tyler Steenbergen (Pending RFA)
Analysis: Burke and Steenbergen are Forwards on a stacked young LA minor team and will probably be AHL players
#7)
Philadelphia
Cam Atkinson 4 years $5.88 Million (15G-19A-34P) in 56 regular season games
Analysis: the Flyers are able to get rid of Voracek and his $8 Million dollar contract and get a younger and cheaper Forward in Atkinson who has 1 extra year and I see him thriving in a top 6 role in the Flyers Forward group.
Columbus
Jakub Voracek 3 years $8.25 Million (9G-34A-43P) in 53 regular season games
Analysis: The rebuilding Jackets give up another long time Blue Jacket but get someone who they drafted and played his first few years there. The Jackets traded Voracek to Philly in 2011 as part of the Jeff Carter trade and with him back in Columbus who is a rebuilding team Voracek can bring Leadership to the younger Blue Jackets.
#8)
Florida
Sam Reinhart (Pending RFA), (25G-15A-40P) in 54 regular season games
Analysis: Reinhart is a great addition to the Panthers who have taken steps to being a cup contender over the last year. Reinhart was one bright spot in a bad Sabres season and should find a home in the Panthers top 6 once he signs a new deal.
Buffalo
2022 con 1RD
Devon Levi no NHL Contract
Analysis: The Sabres were always going to move Reinhart but they get a nice packaged or him. The 2022 1RD pick is top 10 protected meaning if Florida gets a top 10 pick in 2022 then Buffalo gets Florida’s 2023 1RD pick and Levi is a great goalie prospect and I believe will fight with Luukkonen in time, if they can sign him for the backup job.
