Tampa Bay 2 Carolina 1
Tampa was able to hold off the Hurricanes late push to tie and won Game 1 thanks to Barclay Goodrow. Brayden Point (5) and Barclay Goodrow (1) both scored for the Lightning. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 37 saves in the win. The Lightning were 1/3 on the power play (Point had the PPG), and also had 37 hits and 30 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Tampa Bay Luke Schenn replaced injured David Savard and for Carolina a healthy Cedric Paquette replaced injured Nino Niederriter. Jake Bean scored his first NHL playoff goal (1) and had the lone goal for the Hurricanes. Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves in the loss. The Hurricanes were 1/5 on the power play (Bean had the PPG), and also had 31 hits and 38 shots. My thoughts: when I predicted it would be a seven game series I suspected it to be a long and close fought game and that’s what happend in Game 1. Tampa Bay leads best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Tuesday at 4:30.
Injury report
Carolina
Nino Niederriter: missed Game 1 with a UBI and could not play the entire series.
Cedric Paquette: played in Game 1 after missing the entire first round with a LBI.
Tampa Bay
Erik Cernak: left Game 1 with a injury and did not return.
David Savard: didn’t play in Game 1 and is day to day with a UBI.
Colorado 7 Vegas 1 Final
Colorado comes out of their week break playing a Golden Knights team that was coming off a Game 7 game and Colorado smashed Vegas to pieces. Cale Makar had a goal (2) and three assists, both Nathan Mackinnon (7 and 8) and Gabriel Landeskog (3 and 4) each had two goals and a assist, Mikko Rantanen had a goal (2) and a assist, while Brandon Saad (4) also scored for the Avalanche. Gabriel Landeskog (5G-9A-14A) and Mikko Rantanen (2G-12A-14P) each have a seven game point streak, while Brandon Saad has a four game point streak (4G-0A-4P). Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves in the win. The Avalanche were 2/6 on the power play (Makar and Landeskog’s second we’re both PPG), and also had 17 hits and 37 shots. The only lineup change was for Colorado as Carl Soderbergh was replaced by Sampo Ranta who made his NHL debut and NHL playoff debut. William Karlsson (2) was the lone goal scorer for the Golden Knights. Robin Lehner made 30 saves in his first start of the playoffs. The Golden Knights were 0/2 on the power play, and also had 26 hits and 25 shots. My thoughts: the Avalanche were well rested and they made it work as the Avalanche were up the Golden Knights throats from the beginning and Vegas has to recover quickly. Colorado leads best of seven series 1-0, Game 2 Wednesday at 7:00.
