Tampa Bay 6 Florida 2 Final
Tampa Bay withered the strom early and was able to chase Bobrovsky after 5 goals but lost Kucherov and Sergachev to injury late in the game. Alex Killorn had two goals (2 and 3) and two assists, Nikita Kucherov had a goal (3) and three assists, Anthony Cirelli had a goal (2) and a assist, Steven Stamkos and Erik Cernak each had two assists, while Yanni Gourde (2) and Ondrej Palat (2) also scored for the Lightning. Steven Stamkos has a five game point streak (3G-4A-7P) and Nikita Kucherov has a four game point streak (3G-6A-9P). Andrei Vasilevskiy made 39 saves in the win. Tampa Bay was 2/5 on the power play (Nikita Kucherov and Alex Killorn’s first we’re both PPG’s), and also had 33 hits and 26 shots. The only lineup change was for the Lightning as Luke Schenn replaced Mathieu Joseph. Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal (2) and a assist, while Carter Verhaeghe (2) also scored for the Panthers. Sam Bennett has a nine game point streak (4G-10A-14P) and Alex Barkov has a eight game point streak (3G-8A-11P). Sergei Bobrovsky allowed 5 goals on 14 shots before being replaced by Chris Driedger who made 11 saves in relief. The Panthers were 2/7 on the power play (both Panther goals were on the power play), and also had 37 hits and 41 shots. My thoughts: in two of these game they were just as I predicted close high scoring games with whoever scored last winning, but Tampa Bay has won two by two or more goals and if the Panthers want to send the series back to Tampa they will have to get goals. Tampa Bay leads the best of seven series 3-1, Game 5 Monday at 5:00.
New York I 4 Pittsburgh 1 Final
The Islanders get a lot of help from youngsters like Wahlstrom and Ilya Sorokin who lead the Islanders to a tie series. Oliver Wahlstrom had a goal (1) and a assist, while Ryan Pulock (1) Josh Bailey (2) and Jordan Eberle (1) also scored for the Islanders. Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves in the win. The Islanders were 2/5 on the power play (Wahlstrom and Eberle scored on the power play), and also had 31 hits and 26 shots. The only change was in net as Sorokin started with Varlamov backed up. Zach Aston Resse (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Penguins. Jeff Carter’s five game point streak ended. Tristan Jarry made 22 saves in the loss. The Penguins were 0/1 on the power play (but their goal came while short handed), and also had 34 hits and 30 shots. My thoughts: I said that this series would go six games and Pittsburgh would win but going back to Pittsburgh New York is still very much in thinned might even have the momentum. Best of seven series tied 2-2, Game 5 Monday at 4:00.
Toronto 5 Montreal 1 Final
Toronto was able to even the series after a five goal comeback that was helped by Matthews, Marner and Campbell. Auston Matthews had a goal (1) and two assists, William Nylander had a goal (2) and a assist, Mitch Marner had two assists, while Jason Spezza (1), Rasmus Sandin (1) and Alex Kerfoot (1) also scored for the Maple Leafs. Jack Campbell made 28 saves in the win. The Maple Leafs were 2/6 on the power play (Sandin and Nylander both had a PPG), and also had 36 hits and 34 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Montreal injured Jake Evans was replaced by Jesper Kotkaniemi and for Toronto injured John Tavares and Riley Nash we’re replaced by Pierre Engvall and Alex Galchenyuk. Jesper Kotkaniemi (1) was the lone goal scorer for the Canadiens. Carey Price made 29 saves in the loss. Montreal was 0/1 on the power play, and also had 44 hits and 23 shots. My thoughts: I think that the Tavares injury sort of rattled the Maple Leafs in Game 1 but the team I picked to sweep came out in Game 2 to even the series. Best of seven series tied 1-1, Game 3 Monday at 4:00.
Vegas 4 Minnesota 0 Final
Marc Andre Fleury’s shutoutand Mark Stone’s short handed goal lead to the Golden Knights pushing the Wild to the brink. Nicolas Roy scores twice (1 and 2), Keegan Kolesar had two assists, while Alex Tuch (3) and Mark Stone (3) also scored for the Golden Knights. Marc Andre Fleury made 35 saves in the shutout and win. The Golden Knights were 0/1 on the power play (but Mark Stone had a short handed goal), and also had 32 hits and 18 shots. Each team had lineup changes for Vegas Brayden McNabb who was injured was replaced by Nick Hague and for Minnesota Kyle Rau and Zach Parise replaced injured Marcus Johansson and Nick Bjugstad. Minnesota was shutout for the first time since Game 3 of the play in series last year. Cam Talbot made 14 saves in the loss. The Wild were 0/3 on the power play, and also had 35 hits and 35 shots. My thoughts: I was really worried that Vegas would not find their game in a 1-1 series going to a place they had never won in regulation but they provide me wrong and are going home with a chance to win the series. Vegas leads best of seven series 3-1, Game 5 Monday at 7:30.
